Hints For the Home To expedite baking, especially desirable in kitchenettes, use large shallow pans instead of deep ones. A meringue must be baked in a moderate oven for delicate browning. Too much heat makes it tough and wrinkled. Too little heat leaves it half liquefied so that it falls. Mushroom sauce is the proper complement to a pigeon dish; cranberry sauce or current jelly should be served with rabbit. One pound of lobster, shrimp or crab meat will make enough salad for ten servings. Dishes and pans soiled from the cooking of sugar or sweet mixtures, should be soaked before washing in hot water. Those that have contained flour, eggs or starch should be soaked in cold water. Save the fresh leaves of celery tops; wash carefully and dry out in the oven. You can rub them down to a powder if desired, or merely store away in a glass jar with a tight lid. This makes a delightful flavoring for stews, soups and casserole dishes. To make your pie crust richly brown and flaky, spread a little cream over the top before putting it into the oven. Should the crust brown before the filling is cooked, cover the pie with another pie tin for the remainder of the baking. When egg whites will not beat up stiff, add two or three drops of lemon juice. Dorothy Koehler Weds W. P. Kadau As San Juan Capistrano Mission bells tolled the noon-hour Saturday, Miss Dorothy Koehler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. W. Koehler of Lincoln boulevard, and William P. Kadau of Escondido stood in the patio and took their wedding vows, with Father Hutchison officiating. The bride was attended by Mrs. Victor Fleming, while the groom was attended by Mr. Fleming. The bride wore a swagger suit of commodore blue wool and grey accessories, and carried a corsage of pale pink camellias. The newlyweds left immediately after the ceremony for their new home at Escondido, where the groom is employed. Miss Hoskins Is Honored at Party Miss Verna Hoskins, formerly of Anaheim, was honored at a party Saturday afternoon by Mrs. H. D. Polhemus of Placentia avenue at a miscellaneous shower. Miss Hoskins will marry Lyman Smith of Los Angeles soon. Bridge prizes went to Miss Katherine Dohm, first; Mrs. August Fitz, second and Mrs. Curtis Horn, consolation. Delightful refreshments were served at the card tables with Miss Adele Summers assisting the hostess. Places at the bridge tables were marked for Miss Summers, Miss Hoskins, Miss Helen Hoskins, Miss Marjorie Spielman, Miss Grace Spielman, Miss Katherine Dohm, Mrs. Herbert Eipple, Mrs. August Fitz, Mrs. Curtis Horn, Mrs. Harry Hoskins, mother of the bride-elect, and Mrs. Ralph Summers. and flaky, spread a little cream over the top before putting it into the oven.
