Hints For the Home If you have room in the oven, and are using it for several hours, by all means utilize the heat by boiling down some soup bones. The soup should be brought to a vigorous boil before placing in the oven, and the cooking will continue. For water-stained white ceiling, cover the stains with block magnesia, rub until well covered, and then smooth with the finger tips. New brooms should be soaked in hot salt water to toughen them. Frequent washings in hot soapy water will insure their long life. Brushes should always be dried with the bristles down, not with the back down. Otherwise the water will soak into the back, loosening the set and cracking the wood. Grapefruit and Cranberry Salad Pare a large grapefruit and remove pulp. Arrange three sections on a nest of lettuce leaves, with two tablespoons tart cranberry sauce between them. Make six neats with the grapefruit and cranberry. Over each pour a tablespoon of Roquefort dressing. If your refrigerator has its ice compartment all the way across the top, place your milk, butter, cream and other foods that readily absorb odors on the top shelf; the neutral foods such as meat in the center, and strong flavored, aromatic foods at the bottom. In refrigerators in which the ice compartment occupies only one side, rather than the entire top, the milk, butter, cream and foods that absorb odors should be placed directly under the ice. The meate and neutral foods may be placed in the center, but the fish, fruits, vegetables and foods with odors should be placed on the top shelf alongside of hospital at Orange to his home here late this week. LAURETTA DRESS SHOPPE 116 West Center St. Anaheim California Boasts One-Fourth Grape Products In U.S. 27 of First 50 Grape-Producing Counties in Nation Are In This State On the day that the prohibition amendment was repealed the bureau of the census, United States department of commerce, sent the state department of agriculture a report which showed 27 of the first 50 leading grape producing counties are in California, headed by Fresno county. The report also showed that eight of the first ten viticulture counties of the nation are in California; of all the grape vines of bearing age in the United States, California has 24.7 per cent; of all the grapes harvested in the nation, 35.7 are California products; of the 27 ranking counties in the United states in grape production accredited to California, the southern part of the state had four counties; and that there are 28,940 commercial vineyards in the state. Fresno county, on the basis of the federal figures, can claim sweepstakes honors in grapes. For instance, the United States figures show that in the census year, 1930, Fresno county vineyards yielded 1,386,136,000 pounds of grapes, raisin, juice and table varieties combined, and that the crop value was $14,796,131. The considerably more than a billion pounds of grapes came from 84,501,144 grapevines on 7,257 farms in Fresno county but in addition there were 1,714,888 vines not of bearing age there counted when the census was taken. These figures are more interesting, perhaps, when it is shown by the federal report that in all the United States there were only 342,191,490 grape vines producing in 1930 and that the total value of their crop taken from 953,447 farms reporting was $56,168,987. Approval of both a majority of eggs in the district is required before the agreement becomes binding, according to W. Mory, assistant farm advisor. Administration of the agreement is vested in an industry board composed of six producers, six distributors, and a representative of the secretary of agriculture. "Fake Flatters" Are Hit By Casey A campaign to curb the activities of "fake flatters"—persons who use newspaper classified columns to give the impression that the household goods they offer for sale are their own goods which circumstances have required be sold at bargain prices—has been launched, J. S. Casey, chief of the division of weights and measures, state department of agriculture, announces. Casey said that the newspapers of the state as well as better business organizations were assisting in the state-wide effort to effectively reduce the operations of the "flatters" and he praised both the newspapers and the business groups for their cooperation. "These 'fake flatters' have used the 'furniture for sale' classified columns of the newspapers, and have posed before the public as persons who were compelled to dispose of their household effects at a sacrifice, whereas they were dealers operating from their own residences or from flats or apartments maintained for that purpose," Casey said. Well, Judge. Ah see this heah ham lookin' at me so lonely like, Ah jest felt sorry for it an' thought Ah'd give it a home. Then Ah looked in the lost and found department of the newspapers for three days, an' nobody seem' to be lookin' for it, so Ah jest sorta adopted it." Anaheim Union Co.
