Mr. and Mrs. Peter Funk this week recalled a recent two weeks spent in motoring to San Francisco and other northern California points. The Business and Professional Woman's club has appointed Mabelle Hathaway of Anaheim as chairman of the district board of attendance. A son was born Friday night at the Anaheim Sanitarium to Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Wright. Frank Ochoa was the recent guest of his sisters, Misses Carmel and Matilda Ochoa, during a week's vacation at Hollywood, where he attended a number of drama presentations. Donald Baum, who is employed at Redlands where he will re-enter the university this fall, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Baum of 218 North Olive street. Dr. Clara Bakehouse of Pomona and her father were Sunday guests at the home of Mrs. C. C. Reinert of 418 West Broadway. Mrs. Laura Rigdon and daughter, Miss Verna Rigdon, of 224 North Citron streets were week-end guests of relatives and friends at Redlands. Mrs. H. E. Middleton, mother, ar Charles Middleton, brother, both from Phoenix, Ariz., are visiting LeRoy Middleton, manager of the Anaheim city plunge, and his wife. Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary closed its charter at Fairbanks. A son was born Saturday at the Sanitarium to Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Randall of 826 North Clementine street. Howard Hineman is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hineman of North Sabina street. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Grabe of Tucson, Arizona, are house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ross of 308 East Adele street. After spending several weeks at Balboa, Mrs. M. E. Beebe and daughter, Miss Mary Beebe returned to their home on Anaheim road. Miss Naomi Nenno, of the Anaheim Bulletin staff, returned this week from a vacation spent at Santa Catalina island. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Koontz and son, Everett, are back from a two week vacation trip to Lake Tahoe, Reno, and points in Oregon. A son was born Tuesday morning to Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Cook and daughter Josephine Cook, had many vacation experiences to recount to friends this week. They returned recently from a motor trip through Zion's and Bryce national parks in southern Utah, thence to Salt Lake City and back via Reno and Lake Tahoe. Mr. and Mrs. Richard W. Jess of Brentwood, California, this week visited Mrs. Honor Easton of Anaheim, preparatory to going to Europe for an extended vacation. Relatives of the Eastons, Mr. and Mrs. Jess plan to visit several countries in Europe, particularly Italy where they will see many of the art exhibits and other cultural institutions. After enjoying part of their vacation attending lectures at the Pacific Palisades, near Santa Monica, and another part visiting with friends in San Diego Rev. and Mrs. Ray Harker of the White Temple Methodist Episcopal church returned this week to resume duties at the local religious institution. The pastor's son, Rowland, returned Saturday from an Epworth league institute at the Pacific Palisades, and daughter, Miriam, recently took a camping trip to San Diego with her friend, Alice Louise Brown of Whittier. Concordia’s Family Party Big Success Concordia Society's family party held Sunday afternoon at the clubhouse was attended by 165 members and guests and was one of the most successful ever held during summer months. Howard Dow, rector of the St. Michael's Episcopal church Sunday occupied the pulpit following a three-week vacation with Mrs. Dow, and their daughter, Sylvia, to Carmel, San Francisco, Palo Alto and then south to Agua Caliente. Coming back from Mexico they stopped at Cardiff-by-the-Sea. Mr. and Mrs. H. Shoebridge of North Stanton avenue have pleasant memories of a summers' visit by their two grandchildren, Shirley and Phil, and a short visit of their son, Harold Shoebridge of Avenal, California, who last week spent a few days with his parents before returning to his home, taking his children with him. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Carroll have returned from a delightful 10-day vacation spent at Pine Crest, Tuolumne county, as house guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Niehaus and E. C. Niehaus. On their way home they stopped at Jamestown and had a pleasant visit with Mrs. Charles Miller, formerly of this city, and her son, Captain Leland Miller, of Washington, D. C., who is spending his vacation with his mother. They report much gold prospecting in the neighborhood of Sonora, California. Elizabeth Ann resumes her studies at Ramona Convent, Alahambra, this week, and Morris will attend St. Catharine's Military when the fall term starts Sept. 3. Girl Reserves Enjoy Camping Return From Week at Osceola Where "Mexico" Won Miniature Olympics Anaheim members of the Girl Reserves who attended the Orange county camp at Osceola in the San Bernardino mountains, this week recalled with mingled pleasure and thrills the exciting climax to the week when each tent represented a county in the miniature Olympic games. Winifred Beebe of Anaheim had charge of "Mexico," the winning tent, comprised of lassies from this city and Fullerton. The leader had charge of athletic and swimming events and was advisor. Mrs. Floma Sloop had charge of hand craft classes, while Miss Lovenia-Compton of Orange had charge of two hikes, one an over-night journey to include a study of the stars and camp craft instruction. Inez Morris was editor of the Osceola Babbler, the camp newspaper named in honor of the stream which night and day babbled its secrets of mountain allurement. Besides the three leaders, others from Anaheim attending including: Naomi Wheeler, Luella Baxter, Martha Whisnant, Rosalind Beebe, Ruth Beatty, Dorothy Suider, Jewell Cawthorn, Udell Randall, Betty Berger. Fern Roquet, Philura Felton and Harriet Hartel. Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Jongewaard spent a short time with the group just before the close of the conference. F. hall for their regular session, according to announcements this week. Jean Sutherland Honored at Party Silver Wedding Celebrated Here Mr. and Mrs. J. Nesmith Is Honored by Friends Sunday Evening Although they have lived in Anaheim but two short years, the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. Nesmith of 600 North Olive street was celebrated with a score of friends present at a Sunday evening dinner given in the city park. Miss Mildred Nesmith, daughter, and John Bouas, brother of Mrs. Nesmith, arranged the party. Mrs. J. J. Rauch presented the beautiful cake which centered the long table, while guests honored the couple with a chest of silver, meat fork, silver service plate and pie and jelly servers. Invitation to Return As Soon As Second Program Prepared Given Bel Canto Club Leah Pemberton's Entertainers Win Loud Praises of Long Beach Audience of 7000 at Monday Night's Program; Varied Entertainment Pleases Experts; Sacred Concert Next When an invitation was extended for a second engagement as soon as another program was arranged, members of the Bel Canto club directed by Leah Pemberton knew that the lavish praises showered upon them by an audience of 7000 at Long Beach civic auditorium Monday evening were not empty laudations. The group's presentation was hailed as the greatest program ever given at Long Beach's concert house; the costumed entertainers thrilled the listeners with a variety and quality of performance that exceeded all expectations. Following the presentation experts told the entertainers that the group numbers went out over the radio better than any previous similar numbers in local history. Opening the program of foreign music with a Russian folk song "The Volga Boatman" sung by the chorus, Mrs. Pemberton presented Althea Lembke singing "The Nightingale," by Alableff and "De Glory Road," by Wolfe, sung by Bird Cross. Mrs. Pemberton herself sang "The Sleigh" by Koontz. Spanish and Italian numbers were presented as the second part of the program. A stringed trio composed of Jose Miranda, Luis Sanchez and Genaro Herrera played opening songs. Sarah Brown sang "Rosita" and Gordon Whalley sang "La Donna Mobile." Winifred Tacker sang "Estrellita" and Mrs. Pemberton sang Mascagni's "Vol Lo Sapate." Chorus singing of "Gypsy Nights" by Ganne and string trio accompanied closed the scene. Donald Crum opened the Oriental scene with a solo, "I'll Sing Thee Songs of Araby," by Clay, and sang "Where My Caravan Has Rested," by Lohr with Bird Cross. Althea Lembke sang "Bell Song" from Delibes' opera "Lakme." The program closed with the chorus and trio offering Frimls "Allah Holiday." World Wide Guild Prepares Layette Mrs. Ethel Hempshall, Miss Jackie Ballou, Miss Mabel Junker and Miss Alice Grange attended the White Cross meeting of the Ataloa chapter, World Wide Guild of the Calvary Baptist church, held Friday evening at the church clubrooms when a baby layette was prepared to be sent at Christmas to one of the church missionaries.
