ELDERLY WOMAN GETS BA DSTEER BY TAXI DRIVER
Somewhere in Los Angeles is a taxi driver whose blunder in depositing an elderly fare in front of the La Habra police station instead of Pasadenn required the services of the radio-controlled fruit patrol to rectify.
Early Saturday morning an elderly woman entered the La Habra station trying to find the address of friends in Pasadena. She had taken a Los Angeles taxicab, given the driver instructions to take her to the Pasadena home of friends, following her attendance at the Olympic games. Just why the driver took the woman to La Habra isn't known.
At any rate, the La Habra police sent an S. O. S. via radio to the fruit patrol car. The county officers solved the difficulty by taking the elderly lady to the address she requested of the taxi driver. The woman was visiting in Southern California from Chicago.
Joe Scholz Delegate To 20-30 Convention
President Joe Scholz will be the 20-30 club's delegate to the state convention to be held August 8 to 21 at Sacramento, the club decided Monday night when Past President Earl Jackson, who originally had been named, reported that he would be unable to go because of illness in his family. Dr. Max Henderson of the Kiwanis club was principle speaker, stressing advantages of club membership...
The sketch shows one of the very latest styles in lounging pajamas. The trousers are made of crepe de chine in solid color and the tunic top, sashed at a rather high waistline, is made of Chinese brocade.
To make the costume charmingly colorful the trousers and tunic are of strongly contrasting colors. The tunic may be of white. Then the trousers are bright red or green. With a tunic of red you will have trousers of green or golden yellow.

Lost 20 Lbs. of Fat In Just 4 Weeks
Mrs. Mae West of St. Louis, Mo., writes: "I'm only 28 yrs. old and weighed 170 lbs. until taking one box of your Kruschen Salts just 4 weeks ago. I now weight 150 lbs. I also have more energy and furthermore I've never had a hungry moment."
Fat folks should take one half teaspoonful of Kruschen Salts in a glass of hot water in the morning before breakfast — it's the SAFE, harmless way to reduce as tens of thousands of men and women know.
For your health's sake ask for and get Kruschen at Henry Bros. Drug Store, or any drug store—the cost for a bottle that lasts 4 weeks is but a trifle and if after the first bottle you are not joyfully satisfied with results—money back

Restore Confidence, Plea of S. Crosby
Restoration of public confidence, a respect for low an dorder, and a return to normal economic conditions through absolute repeal of the 18th amendment is pledged by Sumner Crosby, Laguna Beach editor, republican candidate for congress in the nineteenth California district, is the platform upon which he will ask the votes of the people of Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties at the primary election Tuesday, Aug. 30.
One of the strongest planks in the platform will be a plea for justice for the working man. Mr. Crosby was the first employer in Laguna Beach to establish a union shop and never has employed any but a union man in his printing establishment.
Lifting of the excess burden of taxation from the shoulders of the property owner, will be one of the aims of the candidate.
"A return to the constitutional form of government planned by the authors and signers of the Declaration of Independence, free from political graft and with real freedom for the people, is the basic principal upon which my platform is being built," Mr. Crosby said today. "Unless the freedom of the people is restored to them we cannot hope to better economic conditions."

Predict Big Vote For Nels Edwards
With 400 of his fellow citizens joining together to form an Edwards-for-Senator club in his home town, Senator Nels Edwards, candidate for the republican nomination for state senator, has had an impressive demonstration of what the home folks think about him.
John Allen, prominent Villa Park rancher, member of the high school board and the county central committee, summarized the viewpoint of the Edwards supporters in this district when he said:
"Nels Edwards never failed the people of Orange county and the people know it.
"The folks in his home district believe in him because they have known him for many years. They know he is square and honest and that's why they are for him.
"Four years ago, Nels Edwards carried this district by an almost unanimous vote. We expect to repeat that endorsement on August 30th."

The Ten Commandments. II. Exodus
20:12-21
The final six Commandments in the Decalogue are directed toward society,
outlining man's obligation to his fellows.
The fifth Commandment sounds archaic in a day of severe tension between the older and younger generations. Taking unfair advantage of their freedom, children are sometimes loath to admit that there can be any merit in the ideas of their elders. How refreshing to turn from flippant irreverence toward one's parents thoughtlessly voiced by representatives of the "younger set," to that heartfelt veneration of Thomas Carlyle, crying out to his dead mother, "Oh, pious mother, kind, good, brave and truthful soul as I have ever found in this world!"
It seems unnecessary to stress the sixth Commandment, "Thou shalt not kill," in Church circles. Yet while Christians very rarely deliberately commit murder, they are a party to those subtle forces that exact a heavy toll in human life. Last year thirty-four thousand persons were killed in the United States by motor vehicles. Also, think of those fated for a premature death through under-nourishment because of unemployment. Remember, too, the victims of that relic of barism, capital punishment. And then call to mind the millions sacrificed on the altar of Mars.
In this age of domestic tension and wrecked homes, due in large measure to unwholesome over-emphasis upon the physical delights of the sex relation, the protest of the seventh Commandment against adultery is most welcome. We surely need a new conscience concerning marriage, a fresh emphasis upon the necessity of mutual loyalty and forbearance.
The eighth Commandment, condemning stealing, is a reminder that all things belong to God and are held in trust by His Children. For one man to take more than his rightful share of goods is to rob God Who is no respecter of persons.
How much we need the warning of the ninth Commandment! Perjury slander, back-biting, uncharitable judgment are all too common. It is surprising how prone we are to "run down" other folks.
The final Commandment has the approval of our Lord, who once expressed the warning, "Beware of covetousness," and of St. Paul, who put his economic distress when he said, "The finger on the source of our present love of money is the root of all evil."

The Jury
The Jury Assembles!!
Seasonal sales have run their course. Shoppers are no longer in the market places in search of summer commodities. A new season approaches.
There is a hint of autumn in the displays of merchandise being offered to the trade... and, a jury assembles. This jury is made up of thousands of women, the spenders of America. It is they who spend, or directly control the spending of 85% of the family income. They are not organized in regular numbered jury form, but they constitute a community body as exacting and are yet more discriminating in their judgment than a picked twelve.
And their verdict is far more reaching than any legal tenet. This jury — in added number each day — is waiting, Mr. Retail Merchant of Anaheim, for the presentation of evidence that yours is a store in which they will want to do their fall shopping; that yours are the newest styles; that yours is the best in quality:
And their verdict is far more reaching than any legal tenet. This jury — in added number each day — is waiting, Mr. Retail Merchant of Anaheim, for the presentation of evidence that yours is a store in which they will want to do their fall shopping; that yours are the newest styles; that yours is the best in quality; and, that yours is the most serviceable merchandise their dollars will buy.
It is evidence they want — the evidence you present in advertisements in their favorite newspaper, the Anaheim Gazette. Through 62 years of service in this community the Gazette has built up and earned the confidence of this jury. Take advantage of this prestige.
Phone 2414 and ask for "Advertising." Sales Service will be immediately forthcoming from an experienced member of our advertising department who will make timely suggestions and present facts on the coverage of Orange county's oldest newspaper.
