4-H Clothing Clubs Proving Popular Orange County Girls Enroll For Work
Orange Buds Bloom to Orange Blossoms in Orderly Development Club Names; Young Ladies More Interested in What to Wear Than in Enlisting for Agricultural Projects.
An ever widening circle of interest is being manifested in the girls 4-H clothing club work in Orange county, according to Eric E. Eastman, assistant farm advisor. For several years the girls have been asking for club work adapted to their needs and interest corresponding to the agricultural project work, which is primarily interesting to their brothers. Last year for the first time the clothing club work was added to the 4-H curriculum in Orange county and was supervised by the home demonstration agent-in-large; girls eagerly joined newly organized clubs, and carried through their year's work with a high percent of completion. Most of these girls and their leaders are now engaged in the second phase of clothing club work, and a younger group in the same community is now embarking on their first phase work. Enrollment in a clothing club does not preclude the girl from enrollment in any agricultural project; but very few avail themselves of this privilege.
The girls enjoy this clothing work very much because they learn the proper kinds of materials that are suitable for each type of garment and the most approved methods of construction. Each girl keeps an accurate record on the cost necessary to clothe herself each year she remains in the 4-H club. Shoe and stocking selection, color harmony, and personal hygiene are also studied. As each girl must reach a very high standard of workmanship before making the next garment, the type of work in some instances is superior to work done by her mother.
Some of the names selected by the girls for their clubs are very interesting. For example, the Orange Blossoms and the Orange Buds. The Buds are the younger group and expect to develop into Blossoms some day. Also the Mermaids and the Water Bables have the same obvious relationship. Flying Needles, Willing Workers, Humming Birds, WeSo, Domestic Daughters and Live Wires are also names that indicate the enthusiasm of the members for 4-H work.
New Ruling May Release Funds
Savings Accounts Now May Be Withdrawn Upon Order Of Court
Decision of the California supreme court upholding the Mendocino county superior court in holding that a court's ruling is sufficient for withdrawal of funds from savings accounts from banks probably will release hundreds of thousands of dollars for heirs to estates or escheat to the county.
This opinion is held by Orange county officials, who this week looked forward to settling up many long-hanging claims of estates. This ruling also affects persons who have lost their pass books and want to withdraw from their savings on their own behalf.
Judge Hugh L. Preston of the third district appellate court said: "The ruling will affect approximately $25,000 in Mendocino county banks alone. If this is true in one county, it may be estimated that it will involve hundreds of thousands of dollars tied up in banks throughout California."

Union Pacific Puts Out Hoover Dam Map
One of the most complete and detailed descriptive stories of Hoover Dam, the surrounding territory including Boulder City and Las Vegas, Nev., ever published in condensed form has just been released by the Union Pacific system.
The data and material in the folder has been compiled by C. E. Miller, of Los Angeles, taken from bureau of reclamation records. Under the heading of "Facts Concerning Hoover Dam," Mr. Miller has written a graphic story of the size of this giant project. There are nine illustrations showing actual operations, the highways and surrounding territory in pictures.
On the back is a color map showing the region as it will appear on completion of the dam. This includes the territory from Boulder City to Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as a panorama perspective of the Southern Utah National parks and the Grand Canyon.

Political Factor Biggest Problem
Engineer Warren Says Politics More Than Engineering Govern Reclamation
Proposed sewage reclamation for Orange county, for the purpose of saving thousands of acre feet of water each year which now finds its way to the ocean, is a political rather than an engineering feat.
This information, backed up by years of experience in promoting outfall sewers and similar projects in Los Angeles county, was given members of the Orange county sewage reclamation committee at a meeting held last week in Santa Ana, by Sanitation Engineer A. W. Warren of Los Angeles. The problems of who shall be included in the district, the benefits to be derived by individual groups, and principally who shall pay for it, as well as location which must include many angles beside engineering, were brought up.
Warren recommended formation of the district under the county sanitation district act, instead of Bill 825 (which has been considered), because the first act creates a board of directors comprised of mayors of the various cities, thus eliminating a big political factor, and harmonizing various cities. His statements, he said, were not meant to discourage the committee, but to warn it of the tremendous work it must perform.
O. E. Steward of Anaheim stated that the committeemen would "tighten up their belts" and buckle down to more work.

CHILDREN CRY FOR IT—
CHILDREN hate to take medicine as a rule, but every child loves the taste of Castoria. This pure vegetable preparation is just as good as it tastes; just as bland and just as harmless as the recipe reads.
When Baby's cry warns of colic, a few drops of Castoria have him soothed, asleep again in a jiffy. Nothing is more valuable in diarrhea. When coated tongue or bad breath tell constipation invoke its gentle aid to cleanse and regulate a child's bowels. In colds or children's diseases, you should use it to keep the system from clogging.
Castoria is sold in every drug store; the genuine always bears Chas. H. Fletcher's signature.

Public schools week has become an annual event, joined in by chambers of commerce, parent-teacher organizations, the American Legion, civic and commercial groups and mayors and city councils of municipalities throughout the state. An especial feature this year will be the problems of rural schools in the smaller communities in relation to the general state wide school program.
