Try removing the button, sewing a piece of narrow elastic in the current place, then sew the button securely to the end of the elastic. The elastic gives as the child bends, and as the threads are relieved of strain, the button stays in place. Many houseworkers have the unsanitary habit of shaking the dust mops out of the window, possibly thinking that it saves time. The time used in trotting to the window can be saved if the houseworker will use a fair sized piece of paper when the work of dusting the floors begin, placing it on the floor at one side, dust that part of the floor nearest, shake the dust on the paper, moving it as one goes about the room. When the floor is clean, fold the paper over, put it in the trash basket, and save time, labor and earn the goodwill of one's neighbors. If a little square of muslin is sewed at the top of the baby's stockings just where safety pins are used to fasten them to the diaper, the stockings will give twice the service. When woolen blankets have worn thin, instead of discarding them, cover them. Silkoline is an excellent material to use. Lay a blanket between two sheets of silkoline in the color used in the room into which this "comfort" is to do service. Bind the edges, tuft with worsted about twelve inches apart. A most satisfactory comfortable is the result and at no great expense of money. It may seem an extravagance that we feel we must match our evening gowns and our elippers, for the slipper does of course get soiled more quickly than the frock. After several cleanings the slippers lose their color but are to be worn at the theater or for restaurant dining, or left off for dancing. Some of the very new dresses are sold with detachable cape collar weighted at the edge with an inch-wide band of beads. The beads give the touch of glitter that is becoming increasingly important this season and also serve to weigh down the cape in a flattering manner. Whether you are slender or the reverse you will find a cape collar of this sort decidedly becoming and desirable because it gives the effect of added width through the shoulders that accentslenderness of waist and hips. MAIN STREET Looks at BROADWAY By "Observer" Mustache Cups Few under 25 have ever seen the mustache cup which used to be such a popular present for Father G. Christmas time forty years ago. The cup differed from ordinary ones in being about double in size and containing a little shelf inside of the cup which prevented the walrus-like mustaches of Spanish War days from dipping into the mocha. The point is that one can still buy such cups. One would think the best place to find them would be on the top shelf of some little corner-roads general store, alongside of car-muffs, wristlets and other archaic manifestations of our forefathers' taste. On the contrary, the best place to buy them is about five minutes walk from Times Square. Several shops on Ninth Avenue and 42nd Street carry them in stock—and sell scores of them every month, they tell me. SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON International Sunday School Lesson JESUS RAISES LAZARUS FROM THE DEAD John 11:32-44 Rev. Samuel D. Price, D. D. Human interest stories attract unusual attention and here is one that is rich in thrills. The scenes are laid in the region beyond Jordan called Perea, where Jesus is in the midst of an intensive ministry with His disciples, and also in Bethany just a few miles from Jerusalem, where still exists the traditional site of the home of Lazarus. Added interest arises with the introduction of the sisters, so familiar in other scenes, Mary and Martha. Announcement of the death of Lazarus is brought by messenger to Him while in Perea, possibly twenty miles distant. Apparently little attention is paid at first. Later Jesus suggests that the company of disciples go with Him to Bethany. This would be a dangerous trip owing to the announced opposition of the Pharisees and it is interesting to note how Thomas is eager to go along, though it may mean his own death. Martha, the resourceful, meets Jesus outside the town and is comforted in just telling Him all about it. Thankful should we be when we have a real friend to whom we can unburden our heart in time of distress. Mary who has tarried with the hired mourners in the home, is sent for, and together the friends seek the place of sepulchure. It is right there that the Man of Nazareth reveals his perfect humanity, in that we have the record "Jesus wept." No difficulty is any problem to our Lord. Regardless of all circumstances when He demanded "Lazarus, come forth," the spirit came again to the body and the brother was returned to his sisters. Abruptly we turn to the Golden Text for the sublime truth. I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth on me, though he dies, yet shall he live." Death, however, refers only to the body. The spirit in man is eternal, but it will receive a resurrected body at the Second Coming of Christ. Valentino's Undertaker New York has what is probably the most ornate undertaking parlor in the world, a million dollar structure that is filled with valuable objects of art, wonderful oriental rugs and other fine furnishings. It is the place in which Rudolph Valentino's body lay in state for three days. Many of the stage celebrities, and others whose friends feel they are entitled to a semi-public funeral, are buried from Campbell's place. The owner of the parlors used to be a hearse driver but finally worked his way up in the world. He is a clever chap, as it is witnessed by the fact that he is responsible for the term "mortician," adopted by many undertakers. A Hobo's Paradise As soon as the ground had been cleared for the new Radio City, or whatever the name is going to be of Rockefeller's new development in the heart of this city, numerous hobos without a place to sleep swarmed on the open space. They found plenty of scraps of wood with which to build fires, both to keep warm at and to cook their "slum," and were undisturbed for several weeks, or until the structural steel began to arrive for the new buildings. Then they were ousted. Their temporary home was probably the most expensive site on which tramps were ever allowed to camp. Even the police let them alone, as it was not a public park. New Form of Theft If one attempts to enter one of the big office buildings at night some guard is always to be found blocking the way. The other day we asked one of these men why the building was so strict in letting people in outside of business hours. We pointed out that it would be almost impossible for a visitor to carry off anything of much value. "That's what you think," he said. "The worst trouble we have in buildings like this late at night is the habit of some of the clerks coming downtown, entering the office where they work during the day, and then putting in a long distance call over the telephone, for which they boss pays." During the last year he was in the field department of the M. O. D., under the direction of E. F. Wentz, field man of the distributors in northern Orange county. "The Fullerton association has a strong growing membership." is the assertion of Bruce W. McDaniel, general counsel of the M. O. D., "and has the loyal support of all other M. O.
