Final Warning to Tardy Taxpayers
Final warning to tardy taxpayers!
Next Saturday is the "dead line" for paying taxes, and there are many in Anaheim and over Orange county who have not "called at the captain's office" to settle up.
According to Miss Etta Williams of the city tax department only about half of the assessed $135,000 has been collected, but the rush of the tardy ones has been on this week and the receipts are around $15,000 a day. For the convenience of the tardy payers, the city department will remain open until 5 p.m. Saturday.
Some taxpayers over the county have not taken time by the forelock, according to John C. Lamb, for less than 25 percent have settled their accounts with the collector. Out of 61,000 individual taxpayers in the county, less than 14,000 have paid up.

December 8—"Winter Irrigation of Christian Science Lesson-Sermon"
A Lesson-Sermon on "God the Only Cause and Creator" will be presented on Sunday in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass.
One of the Scriptural selections includes these verses from the Gospel of Matthew: "And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick—and when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; and besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment; and as many as touched were made perfectly whole."
A correlative passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, states: "Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress. The age seems ready to approach this subject, to ponder somewhat the supremacy of Spirit, and at least to touch the hem of Truth's garment."

Funeral Rites for Lillian Leitzel
Anahelinf relatives and friends of Lillian Leitzel, famous over much of Europe and America as a circus aerial accrobat, have been notified that funeral rites will be held for her at the Mottell chapel in Long Beach on December 10. She was killed in a fall while giving her act in Copenhagen last February.
Alfred Codona, husband of the dead artist, said that a marble monument sculptured in Italy will arrive at the San Pedro piers Sunday in the steamer President Pierce. The marble will be unveiled at Inglewood cemetery following the services at the chapel. The ashes of the artist, preserved by Codona in a silver urn, will be sealed in a crypt in the monument.
The marble represents the figures of Miss Lietzel and her husband, also an internationally known aerialist. The design was worked out of Carrara marble by Prof. El Ascoll of Italy. Faces and figures in the marble conform to those of the artist and her husband. A marble cord with a broken ring beneath the figure tells the story of the tragic fall during a performance at Copenhagen.
Noon-hour services will be conducted at the chapel with Rev. Perry G. M. Austin of St. Luke's Episcopal church officiating. Stars of the circus and theatrical world will attend both the chapel services and the unveiling at the cemetery. Ceremonies at the cemetery are scheduled for 2 p.m.
The home of Codona's parents, 1825 Cherry avenue, where ashes of the woman have been kept since being brought from Europe will be the gathering place of the aristocracy of the big top and the stage when final rites are held. The husband and his brother Edward, also an aerialist, are members of a family which has been starred in the show world for half a century.

ROME AND BEYOND
II Timothy 4:6-13
By REV. SAMUEL D. PRICE, D. D.
The historical record of Paul's life does not go beyond the first Roman imprisonment. Probably Luke planned to write a third/book and complete the account of this apostle to the Gentiles. After the release, return was made to Asia Minor and Timothy was left at Ephessus as Paul proceeded to Macedonia. Titus was sent to both Corinth and Crete. In the interim, Paul wrote two more letters: I Timothy and Titus.
The burning of Rome took place after Paul was released from prison. Emperor Nero was the incendiary but the Christians were charged with this dastardly deed. Wholesale arrests began and it is likely that special favor was gained by some officials who again apprehended Paul and had him taken to Rome. This time the freedom of his own hired house was not granted and confinement, according to tradition, was in the underground dungeon of the Mamertine prison which was visited by the writer a few years ago.
II Timothy is Paul's farewell and it is addressed to the young man who must take up the responsibilities of the apostolic office.
With calmness and assurance in faith Paul faces whatever may take place. His self audit is best expressed in the Golden Text. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith," 4:7. There is no question about the beyond as he faces Judgment.
Only Luke was with him. Others who would have been helped had deserted the Cause or were away on indicated missions. Timothy is sent for and also John Mark, who once failed but later made good in the ministry. Of one thing Paul was constantly certain: "The Lord will save me unto his heavenly kingdom." According to tradition, release came by beheading.
Kier and Goodrich Form Consolidation
Consolidation of H. C. Kier's tire and automobile accessory store at 201 North Los Angeles street with Goodrich Silvertown, Inc., was announced Tuesday. Opening of the store under the new arrangement was observed Wednesday, with officials of the B. F. Goodrich company and Ed Swift, Orange county manager for the retail sales division, in attendance. H. C. Kier remains as manager of the consolidated store, and will have charge of the company's operations in the Anaheim district.
Kler established an independent tire dealer store here several years ago and earned for himself a position as one of the leading dealers in the county. Several months ago he joined a tire association of Los Angeles, quitting that to consolidate with Goodrich Silvertown.
"Naturally, with the advantages to be gained through a subsidiary of B. F. Goodrich company," Mr. Kier said, "I expect the local store to offer greater and more varied services to the army of motorists in Northern Orange county. It will be the purpose of the local store to cater to every service need of the motorist, and I believe that we can give better service than ever."
Ed Swift stated: "We look upon Anaheim as a splendid opportunity, both in a business way and in service to motorists of this district. We are proud of the consolidated store, and know that its personnel and management will meet the needs of this community."

Car Falls 250 Feet, Driver Not Injured
Jumping from his automobile as it took a 250-foot nose-divide over a steep embankment on the other side of Santa Ana canyon Tuesday evening, L. R. Sommerville of 923 North Palm St., landed in on the side of the hill and came to a stop estimated at 30 feet from the edge. The car clipped three trees in its plunge of 250-feet, with the fourth tree holding it from dropping another 130 feet to the river bed.
Sommerville alone in the machine was not injured. The car, its momentum checked by the trees, was in one piece, although fenders and bumpers were bent, the top dented, and door glass broken, although the windshield was not even cracked.
Glenn A. Peck and Bill Payne headed crews which yesterday went to the scene of the accident and lowered the big eight-cylindered car the remaining 130 feet to the bottom of the river with the aid of blocks and tackles. The car then was brought out along the river to roads down the canyon, and thence to Peck's garage here. It was covered by insurance.
ODD FELLOWS' ELECTION
The Anaheim lodge of Odd Fellows held an election on Tuesday evening when Harold Van Patten was named as noble grand. The other officers are: Roy Pollock, vice noble grand; E. B. Johnson, recording secretary; Harold Birch, financial secretary; E. H. Adams, treasurer. The officers will be installed at the January meeting.
Grand Master Charles Duck is to visit the local lodge on Jan. 12, when an open meeting will be held for him.
