Fearn, of the Fearn Radio Shop on East Center street, was this week instructing classes in the signal corps at Camp Del Monte at Monterey. He will complete duties there in about two weeks and plans to return immediately to Anaheim. James Dunn is a new star in pictures and a graduate from musical comedy. Going farther back, he used to sell stocks and bonds for his father in New York. Then he sold lunch wagons, always working and living among people outside and inside of the movie profession. But since he "went Hollywood," and has come up to the place of a star in "Bad Girl," he is said to "keep his feet on the ground" and to wear the same size hat. In "Bad Girl" he appears as a faltering, non-communicative and blustering lover and husband. But in the beginning, he meets a girl, who in the picture is Sally Ellers, and, as might be expected, they fall in love—and marry. Sally Ellers has also been stepping be adapting the work of their group to the demands of the present civilization and to meet the requirements of its present citizenship. These principles are listed by Mr. Gauer as health, command of fundamental processes, right use of leisure, social, civic and ethical character, citizenship, worthy home membership and vocation. Alms of Departments Alms and accomplishments of the various departments of the school curriculum are outlined, as submitted by the various department heads and supervisors. Particularly interesting is the library report including that of the juvenile department of the Anaheim public library. Largely through close coordination of the school work and the juvenile library's activities, the juvenile library had a circulation for the year of 43,975, an increase of 4399 over the year 1930. Work Starts Soon on Newport Bridge Construction work on a new steel and concrete bridge across the north channel of Newport City on the Coast highway will probably be under way within the next three weeks. It was announced by S. V. Cortelyou, district engineer for the state highway commission, who conferred with County Superintendent N. H. Neff. Bids on the bridge were received by the state department of public works, with S. J. Metzgar & Son of San Gabriel as the low bidders at $65,249. Right of way for the new bridge has been given by the Irvine Company. It was reported. NEW LUTHERAN TEACHER Announcement is made at Orange by the Rev. A. C. Bode, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, that Eugene Wunderlich of Detroit has accepted a call tendered by the official board of St. John's Lutheran day school to become a member of the institution's teaching staff. Mr. Wunderlich, who has served as superintendent of a Lutheran day school in the Mt. Higgan city for several years, will cogne to Orange at an early date. of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed. SECTION 4. The foregoing ordinance is signed, approved and attested by me this 11th day of August, 1931. (SEAL) L. E. MILLER. Mayor of the City of Anaheim. Attest: EDWARD B. MERRITT. City Clerk of the City of Anaheim. STATE OF CALIFORNIA, COUNTY OF ORANGE, CITY OF ANAHEIM—ss. I. EDWARD B. MERRITT. City Clerk of the City of Anaheim, do hereby certify that the foregoing ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Anaheim held on the 28th day of July, 1931, and that the same was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of said City Council held on the 11th day of August, 1931, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Miller, Koesel, Martinet Jr., Lakeman and Sheridan. NOES: Councilmen None. ABSENT AND NOT VOTING: Councilmen None. And I further certify that the Mayor of the City of Anaheim signed and approved said ordinance on the 11th day of August, 1931. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the City of Anaheim this 11th day of August, 1931. (SEAL) EDWARD B. MERRITT. City Clerk of the City of Anaheim York. But since he "went Hollywood," and has come up to the place of a star in "Bad Girl," he is said to "keep his feet on the ground" and to wear the same size hat. But in the beginning, he meets a girl, who in the picture is Sally Ellers, and, as might be expected, they fall in love—and marry. Sally Ellers has also been stepping along in Fox pictures, but in "Bad Girl" she has, it is said, the best opportunity for showing her talent that has yet come to her. Retail Merchants in Buyers' Market (Continued from Page 1) Something that the whole family reads. The message of the seller to the buyer will be found in increasing numbers in the newspapers of the country from now on. The message will be sanely written and will carry truthful and plain argument as to price and quality, and the buyer will believe it. He has reached common ground with the seller at last. All the hooey has been cut out. The shelves must be cleared and the buyer must clear them. Quote him "price" and he will do the rest. Rely on Newspaper The householder places his first advertising reliance on his newspaper. Not a billboard, not a theater screen, not a program, not on anything that does not speak directly from the home town source of the seller in the unmistakable language of fact and confidence, and which comes in the front door of the home fully paid for and welcome. Newspaper advertising is the cheapest, the most productive of results and the most necessary instrument for a return of normal retail buying in this country today. This is not a period of "publicity" advertising—this is a period of "selling" advertising. M. A.
