Places in Orange county to be marked include Christfanitos Canyon, near San Clemente; Trabuco Mesa, Allso Canyon, the old Yorba settlements, Olive, Brea Canyon, which was the camp site of Portola, the first California Spanish Governor; the Coyote ranch-house near Buena Park, which marks an old American camp site; the road where the old stage lines used to run, Red Hill, the old Camino Real Road, which was the old Spanish road from San Diego to San Francisco which was used as a marker for land grants; and the Yorba ranch-house in Santa Ana Canyon. Ames. The case was an action brought by E. L. Freeland, an engineer, who charged the San Diego jury with making certain statements. In making ris decision, Judge Ansa said in rebuke of the secretary: "The imposition of a severe rebuke will have greater effect in overcoming the hat done by the publication of an alleged contempt resolution," Judge Ames said "than by fine and imprisonment." Freeland asked that the grand jury be cited after it had published a statement warning the San Diego city to county governments to examine close any claims which might be advanced by engineers for services rendered by water projects which had been abolished. Freeland possessed such claim. Uneasiness Felt Over Land Values Since the purchase by the city of Long Beach of the mile wide, narrow strip of land along the center line of section twenty, or what is more generally known as Spring street, between Bloomfield and Moody road, in Orange county, quite a feeling of insecurity as to property values has been developed, as far north as Buena Park, as the pumping of the main well of the Los Alamitos Sugar Company, when in Los Angeles, chairman of the Southern Section. In the celebration of the week year, and in the preliminary work leading up to it, special attention is devoted to the rural schools. The committee for Southern California formia—Robert A. SPRINT KAPPA FOUNDER DIES Funeral services were conducted at the Church of the Flowers in Glendale Monday afternoon for Mrs. Isabella S. Hammack, 31 years of age, one of the organizers of Kappa Kappa Gamma, a national sorority, who died at her home in Santa Ana. Mrs. Hammack had lived in California forty years, five of which were spent in Santa Ana with her sister, Minnie Stewart. Mrs. Hammack and ten other young women started the national sisterhood at Monmouth College, Ill., in 1869. Mrs. Hammack is survived by one daughter, Eleanore H. Northercross of Santa Ana, and one son Daniel S. Hammack of South Pasadena; three grandchildren, Robert H. Northercross of Santa Ana and Elizabeth and Daniel S. Hammack, Jr., of South Pasadena. TAKEN SERIOUSLY ILL Frank Ey was taken from his home at Santa Ana yesterday to Loma Linda sanitarium, where he will take baths and treatment for an acute attack of rheumatism and other disorders. Mr. Ey was in Anaheim several weeks ago calling upon old time friends, having been a pioneer resident here and was in excellent health and spirits. Following his return home he experienced a bad attack of rheumatism and although physicians were immediately summoned, he experienced no relief and was yesterday taken to the sanitarium where it is hoped he may speedily recover. He is 70 years old and has been in good health right along. He was at one time mayor of this city and was later mayor of Santa Ana. MEETING OF YOUNG PEOPLE About 150 young people of the Presbyterian church heard Prof. J. H. Ballard, of Occidental College, Sunday night, when he spoke on "The Dominance of Desire." A 6:30 dinner was served by Mrs. Earl Spencer and her section of the Ladies' Aid of the First Presbyterian church, where the meeting was held. Since the purchase by the city of Long Beach of the mile wide, narrow strip of land along the center line of section twenty, or what is more generally known as Spring street, between Bloomfield and Moody road, in Orange county, quite a feeling of insecurity as to property values has been developed, as far north as Buena Park, as the pumping of the main well of the Los Alamitos Sugar Company, when in operation of its factory at Los Alamitos, for the two campaign months of each year, seriously affected the water levels of all ranch wells. This inconvenience lasted but two or three months, and the residue of the water was eventually thrown back to the soil. The proposed use of this acreage as a site for major well pumping plants and the removal of the water to a distance is fraught with inestimable danger to Orange county, says the Buena Park News. Up to the present no action whatever as been taken by the board of supervisors to preserve this vital necessity. It is gratifying to note the appointment of Mr. O'Connor of Los Alamitos as chairman of the committee on water conservation, because he is one of the owners of the acreage lying immediately north of the Long Beach purchase, and is well acquainted with the situation generally. Glenn Merrill Passes Out Cigars on Monday While such dignitaries as city, state and government officials and bankers were celebrating Washington's birthday last Monday, Glenn Merrill of 707 South Helen joyously passed out cigars in observance of Ritchard Glenn Merrill's arrival at three minutes to one o'clock that morning. The husky eight pound youngster hasn't as yet decided whether or not he'll be a lumberman. Mother and son are doing fine, the proud father reports, adding that since his young son arrived so close to Washington's birthday the youngster already displays many attributes of the "father of his country." Jury Secretary City of Contempt A dual case of a grand jury for contempt of court, the Orange County Superior change of venue from San Diego resulted in Frank Von Treasury of the 1930 San Diego being found guilty of conjudge Homer G. Ames, was an action brought by and an engineer, who charged Diego jury with making damages. Ris decision, Judge Ames made of the secretary: "The of a severe rebuke will have acted in overcoming the harm the publication of an alleged resolution," Judge Ames said, line and imprisonment."
