Walnut Growers' Institute Feb. 28 Five Counties To Send Representatives To Meeting Held In Anaheim YEAR'S PROGRAM ADOPTED Officers Elected for Inter-County Department Representative walnut growers from Orange, Ventura, Los Angeles and Fernardino and Riverside counties met at the California Walnut Growers Association headquarters in Los Angeles last week to select a location for the annual Southern California institute for walnut growers and elect officers for the coming year. Anaheim was selected because of its central geographical position in the walnut areas of Southern California. Saturday, February 28, is the date decided upon for the institute. Frank Tetley of 'Riverside and Lee Braucher of the Walnut Growers' Association field department were re-elected chairman and secretary, respectively, of the Inter-County Farm Bureau Walnut Department for the coming year. A committee was appointed to work out the detailed program for the institute. Chairman Tetley named J. A. Smiley, Orange; A. J. McFadden, Santa Ana; Harold E. Wahlberg, Farm Advisor; and W. B. Hooper, Extension Walnut Specialist, on the committee. It will meet at the Farm Advisor's office in Santa Ana on Monday, December 22, 2 P.M. The thorough discussion of activities and recommendations of the department for 1931 resulted in the adoption of the following program of work: 1. To hold Annual Walnut Growers' Institute. 2. To hold Annual Walnut Growers' Field Day. The thorough discussion of activities and recommendations of the department for 1931 resulted in the adoption of the following program of work: 1. Alien Labor Not Hired By County Report by Labor Commissioner Made at Public Hearing at Santa Ana Acting Labor Commissioner J. C. Coulter, of Long Beach, has issued a statement that there is no foundation for a report that alien labor is being employed by Orange county officials to do county road work. The Coulter statement read at a meeting of the Board of Supervisors last Friday, when there was a public hearing on the subject. The Coulter statement said that the report was "apparently inspired by malice and mischief." Deputy Commissioner William Walls presided at the hearing and said that he was unable to locate names signed to a complaint, although county pay rolls for two years back had been searched for them. Assistant Highway Superintendent Arthur Board said that when the road department employees men, even for a few days, they must sign cards showing their place of residence and if foreign born must show naturalization papers. In his letter to the board, Mr. Coulter said: "Please be advised that after considerable investigation we are convinced that the complaint filed with this office against the county of Orange..." Assistant Highway Superintendent Arthur Board said that when the road department employees men, even for a few days, they must sign cards showing their place of residence and if foreign born must show naturalization papers. In his letter to the board, Mr. Coulter said: "Please be advised that after considerable investigation we are convinced that the complaint filed with this office against the county of Orange alleging violation of the law of the State of California 'allens on public works' has no foundation and that the county is not employing anyone who is not a citizen of the United States. "The county should not be held in any way responsible for the complaint being filed in this office, the complaint being filed apparently through malice and misrepresentation, and you are hereby notified that the case has been dismissed, insofar as this office is concerned." Vaccinate Children Before Year Old Vaccinate your children against smallpox before they are a year old. That's the advice to California parents from the United States public health service. If vaccinated before a year old, the children are rendered immune virtually from the start. On entering school, they should again be vaccinated. Here's why: 1. Vaccination doesn't always protect life. 2. It requires reinforcement of the immunity in many individuals to make sure of protection against heavy exposure to smallpox. 3. Fortunately, it is pointed out, of the child is already immune, the new vaccination will not take." Instead, there will be merely a little red spot that appears for only about a day. This is known as the "immune reaction." The French government bars the dumping in French ports of Russian products. These French always were a practical people. ANAHEIM GAZETTE I LIKE SPRING!
