St., Anaheim Phone 3111 Super-Hetrodye No Harmonics Lower Bus Fares a Gift to Santa Ana A Christmas gift which anyone with three cents can enjoy comes to Santa Ana in the form of a reduction in bus fare in the down town section of the county seat. Beginning with Dec. 25, the Santa Ana Bus Line announces that Santa Ana will then have the distinction of having the lowest local zone bus fare in the United States. The new schedule has been submitted to the city council, which promptly gave its approval. To meet the competition of local taxi companies, the bus company has also reduced its seven cent fare to five cents in the central business and residential positions, where the tenity charge is ANAHEIM GAZETTE Anaheim Agency Is Distributor Pinkston and Henrichs Win Appointment; Move to Santa Headquarters Monday Pinkston and Heinrichs, automobile agency who for the past four years have made a distinct success in Anaheim, Monday become Orange county distributors for DeSoto Sixes and Eights, and move to Santa Ana, where they will locate in the huge building at Sixth and Sycamore streets. "With our appointment as distributors for Orange county, it becomes advisable for us to move to the county seat," V. E. Pinkston and W.-G. Heinrichs announced Wednesday. "We're still holding the Anaheim agency, though we will not have showrooms open here. The move will give us an opportunity to serve our friends in this city, as well as take care of the largest agency district in the county of Orange. In the Santa Ana quarters, which are one of the largest automotive garage, store rooms and sales rooms in the county, Pinkston and Henrichs plan to conduct an all-day-and-night garage, storage and parking, as well as sales and service for their automobile distributorship. The automobile men have been in Anaheim for four years. They bought the Chevrolet agency four years ago, a year ago selling it to Harry Golden. After three months in the radio business, they took over the local agency for DeSoto and since then have acquired the county distributorship. "Tom Sawyer" at Fox Anaheim Theatre Mark Twain's renowned story of childhood, "Tom Sawyer," opens a three day engagement at the Fox Theater tomorrow. It will play through Sunday, Jackie Coogan and Mitzi Green play the leading roles in "Tom Sawyer" and the film is said to be as interesting as the famous book from which it was taken. Next Monday and Tuesday the Fox Anaheim will present Robert Montgomery, Anita Page and Marie Prevost in "War Nurse," a thrilling drama of the woman's side of the world war. Opening the day before Christmas is the Fox special comedy, "Just Imagine," starring El Brandel, Majorle White and Maurine Q'Suillivan. It will play through Friday, December 26th and comes to Anaheim at popular prices after a long run at the Carthay Circle Theater, Los Angeles at $1.50. "Just Imagine" is the latest screen effort of "DeSylva, Brown and Henderson who created the biggest screen hit of last year." "Sunny Side Up." Good-Will Tourists To Mexico Return The Orange county delegation of 152 good-will tourists who left on Nov. 29 for a 15-day trip to old Mexico, returned last Tuesday: The party traveled in a de luxe train with two engines and the tour was under the direction of a committee led by George A. Raymer, of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce. The tourists spent four days in the city of Mexico, where President Oritz Rubio gave a reception for them at Castle Chapultepec, his country residence. The city of Puebla and the Port of Mazatlan were among other points on the itinerary. The tourists were especially impressed with the innmeasurable natural resources with which Mexico abounds, and they saw many places of historic interest. Citrus Men Give Brock Endorsement Representatives of the citrus industry County Planners Look To Future Commission Submits New Ordinance for Approval of Supervisors The new Orange county subdivision ordinance, drafted and approved by the County Planning Commission, contains several strong features. The ordinance is now awaiting action by the County Board of Supervisors. The ordinance provides for uniform width of streets and traffic lanes as well as adequacy in area of lots. In anticipation that is is only a matter of years before the whole const section of the county will be knitted into a continuous chain of residence tracts, with a resultant heavy increase in travel, particular emphasis is laid on the necessity of providing adequate provisions for streets, highways and other traffic lanes, it was explained by Mrs. Clara Cushman, secretary of the commission. Protection against the introduction of so-called "postage stamp" lots, in laying out subdivisions, is contained in a provision of the ordinance which reads that all lots shall have an area of not less than 4500 square feet and an average width of not less than forty-five feet. Christmas Cards In Mails Early Mail your local Christmas cards early this year. Such is the advice of the United States postoffice to California business men in the interest of better service. Among other things, the announcement said: "The exchange of Christmas greetings locally is being practiced to a greater extent each year. Those mulled in the city, for local delivery, added to those received from other points, make a suspended volume to be handled in a day or two before Christmas. Center St. Phone 3216 Citrus Men Give Brock Endorsement Representatives of the citrus interests of Orange county met in Orange last week, when they adopted resolutions urging Governor Rolph to appoint A. A. Brock, Orange county agricultural commissioner, as head of the state agricultural department to succeed G. H. Hecke, who resigned that position. It was the general opinion that Mr. Brock is well qualified for the position. His appoinment is also favored because his policies on plant quarantine and pest control throughout the state, which Orange county farmers and citrus growers hope will be continued. NURSES' ALUMNA ELECTION The Nurses' Alumna of the Orange County Hospital, at a meeting at the nurses' home, elected Miss Mary Stokes as president for the coming year, and the other officers chosen were: Mrs. May Perdoma, vice-president; Miss Maxine Bolander, secretary and treasurer, and Mrs. Gay Ingram, reporter. Miss Stokes, who lives in Anaheim, was graduated from the training school in 1919. The association will hold its annual meeting at the home of the nurses on Jan. 12. LIONS AT DINNER DANCE A dinner dance sponsored by the Orange County Council of Lions clubs was held at the American Legion hall in Orange Friday evening, the dinner being followed by a vaudeville program. The officer will sponsor a charitable night, the proceeds for the City Nurse Association for Care work. There were twelve couples at the dinner dance from Anaheim, including Mr. and Mrs. Ross Phegley, Mr. and Mrs. O. E. World-Famous Engineers Present Colorado River Aqueduct Report RICHARD R. LYMAN CONSULTING ENGINEER, CHICAGO SANITARY CONTROL PROTECTING HEALTH OF 3,000,000 PERSONS Engineers Who Recommend Metropolitan Aqueduct Route Retained by the Metropolitan Water District as a Special Engineering Board of Review, these three noted engineers announce they are ready to recommend best Colorado River Aqueduct route. With the announcement that the members of the Metropolitan Water District engineering board of review had finished their study of the Colorado River Aqueduct project and are placing their recommendations on file with the District board of directors, widespread interest was being indicated in the past accomplishments of the men on this board. Thaddeus Merriman, who is acting as chairman of the board of review, it was pointed out by Chairman W. P. Whitsett of the Metropolitan Board, is the chief engineer of the New York City water supply and distribution system. Merriman is in charge of ducts that supply the 7,000,000 inhabitants of New York with water, the largest of these being the Catskill Aqueduct, the greatest water supply system in the world and similar in many respects to the projected Colorado River Aqueduct. Richard R. Lyman, it was shown, is a resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, and has had wide experience on western water projects for a quarter of a century. One of his outstanding experiences was his service as a consulting engineer for the Chicago Sanitary District when that District, in protecting its Lake Michigan water supply from pollution from sewage, caused the flow of the Chicago river to be reverberated on engineering accomplishment attracting world-wide attention. A. J. Wiley, the third member of the board of review, is a resident of Boise, Idaho. It was pointed out by Chairman Whitsett that Wiley has been retained as a consulting engineer in charge of the designing and planning of practically every large United States Reclamation Project in the West, including the construction of the Roosevelt Dam. He is now serving as a consulting engineer on the great Hoover Dam project at Boulder Canyon. Immediately after completing his work on the Colorado River Aqueduct report he left for the Panama Canal, where he has been retained as a consulting engineer. While visiting here,the Shaffere their daughter,Dorothy,and Mrs.Keene attendedthe Garden City picnicheld Sunday at Bixby Park,Long Beach.Approximately 75 people attendedthe picnic.The Shaffers reported that they met about 50 people whom they know while residing at Garden City."
