American Tractors competed against the world in the recent World's Agricultural Tractor Trials held at Ardington, England, under the auspices of the Royal Agricultural Society of England conjunction with Oxford University, a public demonstration held from September 16 to 18, 1930.
All five "Caterpillar" models were entered in this test in which seven nations were represented by 33 different actors. Only one other United States entered, Fordson showing from Ireland, Massey-Harris from Canada, and I. H. C. from Great Britian. Germany, Hungary and Sweden were also presented.
Gasolene (petrol), kerosene (paraffin), and Diesel-burning tractors participated. All "Caterpillars" came through all three sections of the test—drawbar and field—with flying cars.
"Her Man" and "Jenny Lind" at Fox Anaheim Theatre
Pathe's big special production, "Her Man," is playing at the Fox Anaheim theater today and Friday. It brings a screen stardom a girl who has until now been comparatively unknown to Twelve trees. Other players in Her Man are James Gleason, Marcia Rambeau, Ricardo Cortez and Phillips Holmes. In reviewing the film which is a romantic drama set in Hawaii, the Los Angeles Times said, "To be counted as one of the really intriguing pictures of the current season."
Great Moore long number four of the New York stage, comes to the Fox Anaheim Saturday and Sunday, in her first screen success, "Jenny Lind." Reginald Denny and Wallace Beery have prominent roles in the picture. The Anaheim engagement of "Jenny Lind" follows directly behind its Pacific Coast premier which has just closed at the Fox Criterion Theater, Los Angeles. The picture is rated as one of the year's outstanding hits.
The boy who leaped to fame as the star of "All Quiet On The Western Front," Lewis Ayres, is booked to play the Fox Anaheim next Monday and Tuesday, in his latest screen success "The Doorway To Hell." He is said to duplicate in the new film, the remarkable hit which he established in his first screen appearance. "The Doorway To Hell" is a vivid action drama based on big city night life. It has just closed a double premier engagement at two leading Los Angeles theaters.
Business may be off in South America, but so far as Presidents are concerned, the canning trade appears to be holding its own.
According to census returns, Texas has nearly 60,000 more farms than she had in 1920. Well, Texas certainly has room for them.

Conquerors
A great merchant of my acquaintance, who is a friend of Gene Tunney old me what occurred after the final Dempsey-Tunney fight.
Gene, who never loved the crowd or was greatly loved by them, wanted to get away immediately. His idea of the way to spend the evening of victory was to hide himself with a few companions in a hotel bedroom.
His friend said: "Gene, you could have done that if you had lost. But you won. You are champion of the world. Whether you like it or not you must pay the price of the championship. And part of the price is to be seen by the crowd."
In telling the story the merchant enlarged upon the theme.
"When I became manager of one of our stores I had to do a lot of things did not like to do," he said. "When became head of all the stores my unpleasant duties increased. Now I go to the office before nine o'clock every morning and a large part of my day is consumed in duties that are more or less distasteful. The only man who can as he pleases is the failure. Every step up that you take means that you belong less to yourself and more to other people."
As he spoke I thought of some examples that have come under my own observation.
The partners of Morgan & Co. are princes of the modern business world if you stand outstile their building or almost any winter's evening you will see the lights burning in at least part of the private offices. The lower floors may be dark. The clerks and accountants have gone home. But almost always some of the partners are still on the job.
I spent a day with Coolidge while he was still President. He was supposed to be on vacation. He fished a little in the morning but it was the least relaxing job of fishing that I have ever witnessed. A secret service man stood at his elbow and another kept watch from behind the bushes on the bank.
Once, for a week, I travelled in a private car with the president of a great corporation. Every morning we left the car at eight o'clock and called on dealers in their stores. We lunched with a group of them at noon, and had another group with us until next morning in another city and do tha

Orange County
In New District
First Reapportionment Proposal
Based On 1930 Census
Is Offered
UP TO STATE LEGISLATURE
This County Also in New Assembly District
Orange county will be in the 19th congressional district and the 75th state assembly district if a reapportionment plan to be submitted to the 1931 legislature is approved by that body.
Assemblyman Percy G. West of Sacramento is sponsor of the first reapportionment proposal based on the 1930 census, which if adopted will complete reapportionment or representation in the state legislature under the federal plan, where the assembly is chosen on a basis of population and the senate by territory.
"When the constitutional amendment was adopted, giving the rural districts control of the senate and the urban centers control of the assembly, we pledged ourselves that in 1931, and after the assembly representation would be apportioned on a strict basis of population," West explained.
"I believe the legislature is in duty bound to abide by this pledge in redistricting the assembly, even though San Francisco, Alameda and some of the other northern districts lose representation and Los Angeles gains."
"If we fail to keep our word, Los Angeles county will have every right to initiate a proposal to repeal the present setup of legislative apportionment on the ground that the population requirement of the constitution was not respected."
Twenty congressional districts are formed under West's measure. Approximately 283,000 persons will be included to a district. This means seven new districts for Southern California, with six new ones in Los Angeles county alone. Parts of Contra Costa and Alameda county will be combined.
