Bruins-Stanford Game Friday Night
It Promises to Be Superior Brand of Football at Los Angeles Coliseum
Fully aware of the distressing fact that the Stanford team they meet Friday night at the Coliseum is expected to display a vastly superior brand of football than was revealed at Palo Alto last Saturday, the U. C. L. A. Bruins are getting down to practice of the most serious variety. They realize that Stanford will probably give them the toughest game of their schedule and are determined to turn in a creditable account of themselves.
Coach Bill Spaulding locked the gates yesterday and sent his charges through a long session of secret practice. The Bruin offense still has room for improvement. Three sets of backs were sent against the "All-Americans" wearing Stanford jerseys with results that were none too encouraging to the coaches. Thoe, Duncan and Decker were the only ball carriers who made consistent advances. The passing attack suffered from the enforced absence of Dick Mulhaupt, left end, whose injured foot is expected to keep him on the bench Friday. Chuck Smith, Les Haight and Howard Stoefen worked at the berth with the speedy Smith looking best offense and Stoefen having the edge on defense.
Another stiff drill is slated for this afternoon with defense for Stanford reverses the topic of interest. Tomorrow night the squad will finish its preparations with a workout under the Coliseum lights.
The Stanford team will arrive in Los Angeles Friday morning and work out whatever train stiffness may have accumulated at the Coliseum in the afternoon.
