Unusual Pictures at Fox Anaheim Theatre
An array of outstanding and unusual pictures is booked for the Fox Anaheim Theatre this week.
Milton Sills in "The Sea Wolf" is to be seen at the Fox Thursday and Friday. This is Sills' final contribution to the screen and fittingly enough, is said to be one of the finest pictures he ever did. It was filmed from Jack London's famous story of the same name.
Saturday and Sunday, October 18th and 19th, the Fox presents Paramount's very unusual epic of the North Ontario wilds "The Silent Enemy." Like other pictures of strange native life such as "Chang", "Four Feathers" and "Nanook Of The North," the little known existence of a people, right on our continent, is vividly and dramatically portrayed in "The Silent Enemy." It is not a scenic or a wild animal picture but presents the Objliway Indians in their highly interesting mountain existence. It is said to be one of the finest films of its kind ever produced.
Beginning next Monday for a three day engagement the Fox presents the comedy sensation "Those Three French Girls" with Reginald Denny, Flif Dorsey and a cast of merry fun makers. From advance reports no more clever and entertaining farce than this has come out of the Hollywood studios in 1930.
Performances at the Fox Anaheim Theatre are continuous from 2:30 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday. Night performances from Monday to Friday are at 1 and 9 P.M. and in addition a special matinee is offered every Wednesday at 2:30 P.M.

Van de Kamps To Open New Bakery
Public Invited To Attend Event At Blue Windmill, Center and Lemon Streets
Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakers will open their second store in Orange County tomorrow at 185 West Center street in Anaheim. The innaculate blue and white bakery store with Van de Kamp's famous windmill trademark artistically evident, will be next door to the Building and Loan Association office at Center and Lemon streets.
To each child attending the opening, accompanied by parent or grown-up, a miniature windmill with vanes that really turn will be given. The little windmill will be filled with crisp Van de Kamp cookies.
Two weeks ago, Van de Camp's opened their first store in Orange county at 103 S. Spadra Street, Fullerton. Mrs. Olive Rothbach, manager of the store in Fullerton, has reported the keen appreciation of Orange County residents of the large variety of fine quality bakery products in the Van de Kamp line.
For 16 years, Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakers have served the public with quality bakery products—so fine, that many women have decided homebaking is unnecessary when they are able to shop at a Van de Kamp bakery. Treasured Dutch recipes, laboratory-tested ingredients, skilled baking in a modern and efficiently equipped baking plant, have all combined to produce the 150 varieties that are the wonder of the baking world.
Customer assurance that all products are fresh daily is demonstrated by Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakers by their removal of all breads, rolls, cakes, plies, doughnuts, pastries, and coffee cakes, from their stores each night. These products are then transferred to next day departments in Los Angeles where the merchandise is sold at reduced prices.
With their chain of over 100 stores on the Pacific Coast, in Los Angeles County, Seattle, Washington; and Portland, store next to the old Saddle Rock Cafe on Spring Street in Los Angeles, two brothers-in-law, Mr. Frank and Mr. Van de Kamp started their business with the slogan "Made clean, kept clean, and sold clean." Their policy has never varied. They give as meticulous attention to details in baking and sanitation today with their chain of over 100 stores and four baking plants, as they did 16 years ago in their little 8-foot shop which sold only Saratoga Chips.
Mrs. Frank, formerly Miss Van de Kamp, designed the orig blue and white costume now worn by all Van de Kamp salesladies. Van de Kamp smiles and courteous careful service have become fainous.
Van de Kamp's second Orange County store, opening tomorrow, will offer the same wide variety of products, the same careful attention to details by the salesladies, the immaculate appearance of the blue and white shop, and will operate to serve the people at Anaheim in the traditional manner of Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakers.
"We have had so many requests from residents of Anaheim for a Van de Kamp store in their own shopping district, we are now happy to announce our expansion into Orange County. As Southern California's own bakers, we hope to become a part of this prosperous community where your families appreciate the fine quality bakery products baked with the greatest care, which are made convenient for your purchase at reasonable prices," said Theodore J. Van de Kamp, first vice-president and treasurer of the company.
Six Carloads of Crosley Chasses
Six carloads of chasses for Crosley Radio have arrived in California in the past week to fill one of the most pronounced demands for radio that has ever been known in the industry, says Paul Davidson, of Superior Radio Service, 304-8 West Center street.
The fact that Crosley manufactures a mantel radio and two console radios which sell for less than $100, added to the fact that the quality of Crosley Radios this year are as fine as can be found on the market, is responsible for the demand here in California, Mr.
Trojans Prepare For Utah Aggies
Game Next Saturday a "Breather" Before Big Stanford Scrap On Following Week-end
As a preliminary to the big football mid-season climax of the University of Southern California-Stanford classic at Palo Alto October 25, the Trojans are preparing to meet a scrappy band of Utah Aggles at the Los Angeles coliseum Saturday.
While the game is frankly placed on the S. C. schedule as a "breather" before the big Stanford battle on the following week-end, it promises to be an interesting affair as the Aggles with two victories and a scorless tie out of three starts against leading Rocky Mountain teams so far this season, have proved themselves to be out of the "set-up" class.
In three conference games to date the Aggles defeated Colorado College 8 to 7 and Western State 31 to 0 and last Saturday fought the strong Colorado University eleven to a 0 to 0 tie. Having a second team that rates practically as strong as the first, the boys from Logan, Utah, will come to Los Angeles 30 strong and prepared to give the Trojans an interesting afternoon even though they are conceded small chance to win.
According to Coach Dick Romney's present plans, the Aggles will leave Utah early Thursday, arriving in Los Angeles the following day in time for a workout at the collseum. They will make their headquarters at the Huntington Hotel, Pasadent.
Because the Trojans are spending most of this week preparing for Stanford and Coach Howard Jones is planning to give many of his reserves a chance to play against the visitors, Saturday's affair is expected to be fairly evenly matched. Interest being centered on the Stanford game as it is, there is a possibility that the Trojan plans of taking the Aggles in stride will be upset and that the game will become a real battle.
Customer assurance that all products are fresh daily is demonstrated by Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakers by their removal of all breads, rolls, cakes, pies, doughnuts, pastries, and coffee cakes, from their stores each night. These products are then transferred to next day departments in Los Angeles where the merchandise is sold at reduced prices.
With their chain of over 100 stores on the Pacific Coast, in Los Angeles County, Seattle, Washington; and Portland, Oregon, Van de Kump's have an enormous purchasing power which enables them to buy the finest ingredients more economically than the housewife can. Fresh butter and fresh eggs in generous quantities, sweet milk, fine pastry and bread flours, the highest grade flavorings, and baking powders, are used by these Dutch bakers.
The growth of Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakers has been phenomenal and is directly attributable to the high ideals and fine principles held by the founders, Theodore J. Van de Kamp and Lawrence L. Frank.

Christian Science Lesson Sermon
"Doctrine of Atonement" will be the subject of the Lesson-Sermon, Sunday, in all Christian Science Churches, branches of The Mother Church. The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass.
One of the Scripture selections in the Lesson-Sermon includes the following verses from John: "Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him. I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me . . . And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments."
A passage which appears under the marginal heading "Divine oneness" in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, states: "Atonement is the exemplification of man's unity with God, whereby man reflects divine Truth, Life, and Love. Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated man's oneness with the Father, and for this we owe him endless homage."
IN THE MELTING POT
About 50 foreigners who desire to become naturalized citizens of the United States and enter the "American melting pot" will take the federal examination at Santa Ana on December 12. It will be the largest class of the kind in the history of Orange county. Most of the aspirants are from Great Britain, but Germany, Russia, Holland, Denmark, Jugoslavia, Belgium, Lithuania and Italy are also represented.
