Anaheim Is On List For Fiesta Orange Show and Hallowe'en Party To Be Expanded for Incoming Tourists EVENTS ON 1981 PROGRAM Promotion by Chamber of Commerce Publicity Committee Anaheim is one of the 180 California cities which will feature special attractions for the state-wide fiesta year in 1931, and this city will have two events on its program. One will be the annual valencia orange show, starting May 22 and closing June 1, covering a period of eleven days. The other feature will be the sixth annual Hallowe'en party on October 31. Both of these annual events, now regarded as fixtures on Anaheim's civic calendar, will be largely expanded for the fiesta year and the promotion work in connection with both will be by the publicity committee of the local Chamber of Commerce. Representatives of the Anaheim Chamber attended the meeting of the Southern California Council of the State Chamber of Commerce at Los Angeles, recently, at which general plans for the fiesta program were outlined by Morris Rathbun, chairman of the special fiesta committee. He said that California would be the first state to undertake such a state-wide feature, and that communities throughout the state are rising to the idea with their usual enthusiasm. Chambers of Commerce, All-Year clubs, automobile association, transportation agencies, and various other civic organizations throughout the state, will whole-heartedly join in the movement, Rathbun said, to the end that 1931 may be made a record year for inflow of tourists from all over the United States. Pasadena will lead off the fiesta program with its tournament of roses in which some new features significant of the year will be emphasized. It is proposed to have twelve of the floats in one division of the Pasadena pageant, one for each month of the year, which will depict the fiesta features for each of the twelve months. George W. Reid, Secretary of the Anaheim Chamber, said at the Los Angeles meeting that the fiesta committee could be assured that this city would be a most active participant in the program for 1931 and that the orange show and hallowe'en party would be staged on extraordinary scale. While there is a long list of cities which will give spectacular features during the year, a schedule will be made up so that as far as possible the events in one city will not conflict those of another. It is the plan to have a sufficient number of attractions to permit tourists to attend a different entertainment every day in the year. In connection with the fiesta plans, letter-writing contests are to be held in communities up and down the state, with prizes offered for the best letters to friends in the east on the subject of why they should visit California in 1931. A prize will be offered for the best letter written in the state. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Freeman of 830 Zeyn street were guests Monday evening to a dinner and party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
