Builders' Discussion of Mutual Problems
Mutual problems of building contractors and organized labor were discussed at a luncheon meeting of the directors of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, held at the Elks Club last Thursday, when the chief topic was that of methods which might be followed in keeping the purchase of materials confined at home and employing home workmen on building projects.
The two groups voted to form a committee, to be made up of lumbermen, supply dealers, labor and general contractors for the purpose of holding meetings for the discussion of mutual problems.
Eleven new members of the Chamber were reported by the Membership committee: C. A. Cramer, A. J. Larsen, Artlip I. Hull, W. A. Pendleton, Paullna Jones (Home Cafe), Frank Stueckle, F. A. McCreary (Coast Ice Cream Co.) Southern California Freight Line, Ltd; Triangle Division, J. S. Bouldin (contribution to the service fund), Harry Golden (Chevrolet dealer), and the Atlantic and Pacific Tea company.
Coroner Surprised, And So Was Rancher
Coroner Charles D. Brown was the most surprised man in Orange county Saturday when he went to the Charles F. Havens ranch in West Orange on a call which said that the body of a man had been found there. The coroner found that the death of Havens had been "greatly exaggerated." for Havens was alive, although his face was battered up. Havens apparently was as surprised to see the coroner as the coroner was to see him. Havens said that his injured face was the result of an encounter with H. W. Hillsbury, a walnut picker, who had been employed on the Brown ranch.
Brown said that Hillsbury and his three sons attacked him with clubs and he feared they intended to kill him. Brown swore to a complaint charging Hillsbury with battery, while he retaliated with one charging Brown with disturbing the peace.
A Future Monarch of the Forest
This baby bull moose, only 24 hours old, was deserted by his mother in an apple orchard in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Major H. H. Ritchie, chief Game Warden, is trying to rear it on the battle.
Benefit Booth of Veterans At Fair
The Co-Operative Sales Committee of the Orange County Council of American Legion Auxillaries, of which Mrs. G. A. Young, of Santa Ana, is chairman, is conducting a booth at the county fair where articles made by disabled veterans are on sale. All the proceeds go to the veterans in the hospitals.
The booth has been donated to the cause by the Bank of Italy, express charges are paid by the county council on articles shipped to the booth, and the remaining Sunkist associations in the desert grapefruit sections, and all of which are members of the Desert Citrus Exchange, of El Centro, will give their approval to the idea.
PICNICS OF THREE STATES
"Exiles" from three states—New York, Oregon and Washington—will hold separate picnics at Sycamore Grove park all day, Oct 11, with basket dinners at noon as a feature. Program of music and speeches will mark each gathering. State registers are kept by C. H. Parsons, Faber 3311, at the state societies offices.
Veterans At Fair
The Co-Operative Sales Committee of the Orange County Council of American Legion Auxillaries, of which Mrs. G. A. Young, of Santa Ana, is chairman, is conducting a booth at the county fair where articles made by disabled veterans are on sale. All the proceeds go to the veterans in the hospitals.
The booth has been donated to the cause by the Bank of Italy, express charges are paid by the county council on articles shipped to the booth, and each unit in the county gives a day's work in the booth. Firms and individuals throughout the county have supplied the means to defray other expenses. There is, said Mr. Young, a clear profit of 100 per cent made on each article sold.

GRAPEFRUIT TO BEAR
SUNKIST TRADEMARK
Grapefruit from the California and Arizona Growers associations going to the northwest and eastern markets next season will bear the Sunkist trademark, according to R. B. Wallace, assistant orange sales manager of the California Fruit Growers Exchange. Irving de R. Miller, manager of the Arizona cooperative group, has announced this decision on the part of Arizona growers and it is expected that similar action will be taken by all grapefruit associations.
"The Sunkist trademark on the fruit will remove many obstacles encountered last year in the advertising, selling and merchandising of California and Arizona grapefruit," said Mr. Wallace.
"Retailers everywhere will welcome this announcement and will be able to more easily tie in with Sunkist radio, newspaper and other forms of advertising and with dealer service. When all the producing associations use the Sunkist trademark, it will be an immense step forward and will remove much of the desert grapefruit sections, and all of which are members of the Desert Citrus Exchange, of El Centro, will give their approval to the idea.
