HEAVY DECREASE IN MARRIAGES
Orange County Shows Loss of a Hundred Licenses For Past Year
California is not marriage-minded these days.
An unromantic outlook is pictured in the semi-annual report of the state bureau of vital statistics, showing that during the first six months of this year only 24,002 nuptial knots were tied, compared with 24,076 for the same period in 1929.
Not a tremendous loss, but set against the record of 27,939 for the first six months of 1927, the "peak year," it is a woeful showing.
Orange county showed a loss of 107 during the past six months period, with 1663 marriages performed.
Last year, when the total jumped nearly 3,000 over 1928, state officials confidently said that the effect of the "gin marriage" law, passed in 1927, was wearing off.
This quaintly-named statute provides that all who would tread to the altar must tell the general public about it some three days in advance, by filing "notice of intention."
These same state officials in 1928, the "slump" year following passage of the law, declared that a loss was to be expected.
Right now they are searching around for some explanation of this new and unexpected drop in the figures. So far they have contended themselves with merely making the noncommittal and obvious remark that:
"The first six months of the 1930 total indicates that there will be no conspicuous gain in the number of marriages this year."
But the most unkind cut of all to those who weep when the blushing bride starts do startling fact.
The month o'est decline in the past six months were 345 less in that month.
Continuing the point out that losses occurred San Francisco, Butte, Santa Clara ties.

They knew their statements stand before any body of fair-minded men. They are now making these statements in your interest, but to catch your votes.
In the twenty years there have not been thirty-five changes made by the Equalization in his assessments; do you think this would be so if he had big interests as they are trying to make you believe?
The Board of Equalization is composed of tax payers; do you think that stand for his favoring the Irvine Company or any other corporation and place on themselves and you? No, not on your life, as they are against carrying the burden as well as you.
Ask Supervisor SCHUMACHER and Mr. Loudon why these matters brought before the Board of Equalization and see them squirm and make exertion. He has tried to give every tax payer, large or small, a just and equitable and has fought the big interests for years which most of the people of the county know. He has invited the tax payers of this County to come to the assessor compare and see any assessments in the County, there being no assessments covered up.
He has tried to conduct a clean campaign, giving facts and not mis-statements we are sure the people of this County will not support a man who tries to go by mis-statements, untruths and insinuations.

The month of June showed the heaviest decline in marriages of any one of the past six months! This year there were 345 less ceremonies in June than in that month of 1928.
Continuing the gloomy story, one can point out that the most conspicuous losses occurred in Orange, Riverside, San Francisco, San Joaquin, Imperial, Butte, Santa Clara and Alameda counties.
A slight bit of cheer can be thrown to those residing in Ventura, Santa Barbara; San Mateo, Napa, Kings and Humboldt counties, by informing them that their counties are the Gretna Green's of the state.
There are said to be 320 farms inside the confines of the city of New York. Well it would be worth the expense of a trip otte the big city just to see a real Tammany farmer.

The same section contains also the following statements from Science and Health: "Mind is God. The exterminator of error is the great truth that God, good, is the only Mind, and that the supposititious opposite of infinite Mind—called devil or evil—is not Mind, is not Truth, but error, without intelligence or reality."
Lamb Faithful And Efficient
(Santa Ana Times)
Friends of County Tax Collector John C. Lamb were pleased to read the endorsement editorial from the Anaheim Bulletin, and reprinted in The Santa Ana Times of Friday evening. The editor of The Bulletin complimented the tax collector for his efficiency and faithful service. It is common knowledge all over Orange county that Mr. Lamb is one of the most devoted officials who ever held a county office. He will not have nor will he take the time to make a house-to-house canvas for votes, believing the taxpayers elected him to take care of the business of the office, rather than use their time for a personal benefit. When men of such ability and integrity are placed in office the welfare of the public is best served by continuing their administration. Mr. Lamb's friends should be alert to his interest and inform every voter with whom they come in contact of the fidelity that he has shown to his constituents.

His record is clean and he can at once start his organization in the field stamp out the violation of law, with dictation. He will at all times advise on the best methods to use what he believes is his duty to people of Orange county.
In supporting by their ballot, Porter at the primary August 26, voters will be behind a man who is young and vigorous, who will go into Sheriff's office with the grim determination to overcome all obstacles undeserved by the county a safe, sane, and businesslike administration.
