Charles Carroll Is Found Dead
Charles Carroll, well known Anaheim rancher, was found dead at his home west of this city on Thursday morning. He is believed to have been asphixiated by gas in the room while he lay upon a lounge.
That the asphixiation was voluntary is made certain by the note which he left to his wife and which said in part that he was not doing this on her account but simply because he was in ill health.
Mr. Carroll's death is unhappy news to many friends. Born and raised in this city, he was the son of T. M. Carroll, a pioneer of Anaheim who came here many years ago. He leaves his wife, a brother, Joe, and one married sister to mourn his death.
Funeral arrangements are not as yet completed.

Dr. Sproul, New President, of State University Opposes Proposal
Dr. Robert Gordon Sproul, on his first morning as president of the University of California, stated that he contemplates no revolutionary changes in the policies of the institution and that such new experiments as may be tried out later will be inaugurated one at a time after careful consideration.
One of the important points brought out in the interview related to the size of the university, an dthe possible necessity of limiting enrollment. President Sproul is opposed to such limitation. He said:
"The University of California in the past ten years has not grown perceptibly as far as the departments at Berkeley are concerned. Of course, the entire development and growth of the University of California at Los Angeles falls within that period. As far as numbers are concerned, I feel that the most important question is that the qualification of our entrants to do adequate university work be maintained, and that the quality of work in the university work be maintained, and that the quality of work in the university be not impaired with any idea of making it possible for an increasing number of students to meet the requirements. Subject to these two limitations, I believe that the university should welcome those who desire to come to us. Surely the state cannot but profit by having prepared for its service such a splendid group of young men and women as are today obtaining an education within the university in its several parts. An increase in that number, if quality be maintained, cannot but be desirable."

Stirring Drama of Prison, "Big House" at Fox Saturday Eve
"The Big House," a stirring drama of prison life which has emerged as one of the Box office smashes of the Year; Rough Romance", a romantic and virile story of lumber jacks, their loves and battles; and "The Shadow of the Law," the dramatic tale of an innocent man sent to prison for murder, are the outstanding features on the bill of fare of the Fox Theatre, Anaheim, for the Week beginning Saturday, July 12.
George O'Brian, handsome "Hogman" hero of many western romances, has the central role in "Rough Romance" which is to be shown at the Fox Theatre Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13. Antonio Moreno and Helen Chandler have chief supporting parts of this victorially beautiful film which was made in Ranier National Park.
"The Big House" Brings to the screen hand-picked cast of outstanding performers including Chester Morris, who is the star, Lella Hyams, Wallace Berry, Lewis Stone and Robert Montgomery. Morris plays the part of a foreigner who is regenerated through love for the beautiful sister of one of his cellmates. The action includes a sensational jail break staged with all of the realism that could be mustered for the screen and the story is said to be one of the most dramatic ever filmed.
"The Big House" is to have a three-way engagement opening Monday, July 11.
"Shadow of the Law," which is to be the attraction Thursday and Friday, July 17 and 18, features popular William Powell of the S. S. Van Dine murder mysteries in a new type of dramatic characterization.
