Advertising Agency In New Hands
Herbert C. Bernsten Purchases The Fred Curtis White Business
An announcement of widespread importance in view of the fact that the interests he represents have national and even international distribution was made here today that Herbert C. Bernstein, formerly of San Francisco, has purchased the nationally recognized advertising agency of the late Fred Curtis White.
The fact that Mr. Bernstein has acquired from the White estate the agency which Mr. White owned and operated
He entered the advertising agency business in 1923 and became vice president of the Lockwood-Shackleford Company in charge of that organization's San Francisco offices. In 1928 he purchased the office and, merging it with an agency operated by Leon Livingston, formed the Bernsten-Livingston, Inc., agency. In taking over the Fred Curtiss White organization, Mr. Bernstein disposed of his San Francisco interests by selling his partnership to Mr. Livingston.
Mr. Bernstein is widely known here, especially because of the fact that in 1926 and 1927 he was president of the California Association of Advertising Agencies.
He is a native of Illinois and served his "cub" experience as a newspaper reporter and later as an advertising collector on an Omaha daily, but he has been a resident of California since 1910.

ed for the last six years was considered especially interesting inasmuch as Mr. Bernaten and Mr. White had been personal friends for many years. They were associated in business prior to the establishment of Mr. White's own agency, it is stated.
Interviewed here today, Mr. Bernaten stated that he has disposed of his San Francisco business interests, and that he will devote full time to operating the new agency he has acquired in Los Angeles.

AVIATION TRAINING FIELD
California will have a new aviation training field for its National Guard, just as soon as the old buildings can be removed from Ross Field at Arcadia, a United States Army balloon school during the war.
John R. Quinn, director of military and veterans affairs, told Governor Young in a report this week that threem problem of removing 100 old buildings, all in a bad state of repair, without cost to the state, is being studied by the state division of architecture.
"To make the field satisfactory for heavier-than-air ships," said Quinn, "it will be necessary to do considerable grading an dother work on the property."
