"What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the Lord." These words from Jeremiah constitute the Golden Text in the lesson-sermon on "Unreality" Sunday in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass.
Among the scriptural selections in the lesson-sermon is a portion of Solomon's blessing cited from the first Book of the Kings: "The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers; let him not leave us, nor forsake us; That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers. That all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is God, and that there is none."

A correlative passage from the Christian Science textbook "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," contains these words of Mary Baker Eddy: "The science of Christianity comes with fan in hand to separate the chaff from the wheat. Science will declare God aright, and Christianity will demonstrate this declaration and its divine principle, making mankind better physically, morally and spiritually."
"Illusion" Is Great "Talkie"
"Buddy" Rogers, Nancy Carroll Perform Brilliantly as Lovers on Screen
Charles (Buddy) Rogers, that personable young juvenile hero, and his equally delectable partner of the recent Paramount opus, "Close Harmony" Nancy Carroll, will be seen and heard in their second co-featured all-talking picture, Paramount's "Illusion," at the Fox theatre Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct., 7, 8 and 9.
With a play that is excellent "Illusion" is based on the novel by Arthur Train, and actors who are equally superior, it is difficult to judge which is the more deserving of commendatory precedence.
Rogers is a young magician who had learned his stage tricks through an early up-bringing in the circus. Nancy Carroll is the girl who was raised in the same environment and who is his partner in their successful stage act. She is in love with him. But Buddy, through his charm and suave appearance gets himself invited to the parties and fetes of gay Park Avenue society. He falls for a wealthy heiress, played by June Collyer. Meanwhile Nancy becomes disconsolate, and in the same meanwhile June learns the true story of Buddy's background. She tells Buddy she can never marry him.
He goes to a theatre where Nancy is playing the old act with a new partner. The thrilling climax of the act comes. Four riffles blaze at Nancy. Gas Mains Laid In San Clemente
Southern Counties Gas Company Extending Its Service
According to an announcement by C. E. Rutledge, manager of the Orange county district for the Southern Counties Gas Company, the laying of natural gas distribution mains throughout the town of San Clemente practically have been completed. The service of gas to "The Spanish Village" is being undertaken at the request of practically every resident of the town, supported by a petition from the Chamber of Commerce.
Large transmission mains, tied in with the company's entire transmission system are now being laid to connect with San Clemente, Capistrano, Capistrano Beach and Dana Point. According to Rutledge, natural gas will be turned into the new mains between November 1st and November 18th, supplying hundreds of families along the south coast of Orange county. In order to bring natural gas to these four communities, the company is laying fourteen miles of twelve-inch main from Laguna Beach at a cost of approximately $175,000. A total of 16 miles of distribution mains along practically every thoroughfare and reaching to practically every home in the four communities is being installed at an additional expenditure of approximately $52,000, said Rutledge.
From the survey made by the local Chamber of Commerce and from the number of requests we have received from home owners in these communities it appears that at least ninety per cent of the residents of San Clemente, Capistrano, Capistrano Beach and Dana Point, will depend upon the natural gas supply for cooking, water heating and house heating, said Rutledge. "Many of course are also planning to install the new natural gas refrigerators, ironers, etc."

"Many of course are also planning to install the new natural gas refrigerators, ironers, etc.
"In San Clemente especially, which is acquiring a national reputation as one of California's most modern communities, we have learned that the almost unanimous opinion of the residents of San Clemente is that the town will not be thoroughly modern until it is supplied with natural gas. We are glad to announce that within the next six weeks natural gas will be available for every home in San Clemente and other communities in that vicinity."
FORESTRY BOARD COMING
Fred J. Stevenot, state director of natural resources; M. B. Pratt, state forestry and his assistant, W. B. Hider, will accompany members of the state board of forestry when they visit Orange county October 23 on a tour of inspection to water crests and streams. It was announced in a communiqué from the forestry board useless by the county board of supervisors.
D. Eyman Hunt of the Howe ranch, El Modena, a member of the forestry board, will be host to the visiting officials on the day of their trip through this county.
SHEEP INDUSTRY
The sheep industry of California valued at $42,670,800, may be seriously threatened if prevalence of the disease "cheep scab," is not checked, according to announcement of G. H. Hecke, director of Agriculture of California.
A proclamation quarantining the island of San Clemente, where many cases of sheep scab have been found, has been issued by the department of agriculture.
