A. Lake, president of the Orange County Fair Association that with the election to the office of Secretary and Manager Charles E. Lee, well known Orange county orange grower, that the fair board was laying the foundation early for a bigger and larger exhibit and fair for 1930. Lee is well known in Chamber of Commerce, farm bureau and civic circles throughout Orange county and the State of California. He is now engaged in the business of raising oranges as a practical and successful grower, on East Orangethorne avenue, between Fullerton and Placentia. Lee organized the Chamber of Commerce at Placentia seven years ago, and was its first secretary for two years, going to the San Joaquin Valley, where he made a splendid record in chamber of commerce and farm bureau work, being extremely active in the development of the great district fair held at resno every year and serving on several state-wide committees, such as water conservation, California Vineyardists' Association, and in the advisory councils of Sunmaid Raisin growers. Mr. Lee returned to Orange county about three years ago, purchasing the city water plant at Placentia, which he operated successfully until last year, when he sold it and purchased his orange grove. Since his return to Orange county Lee has taken an important lead in county-wide civic improvements and has served on several important committees during the past two years. The fair board feels fortunate in being able to get Mr. Lee to serve as our secretary, as we feel we can all benefit by his experience, stated H. A. Lake, president of the fair association. Lee for the present is volunteering his services to the good of the Orange County Fair, the same as other members of the board and leaders in a score of county-wide civic organizations, who high class opponents, there can be no basis of predicting whether or not the Trojans of 1929 will come up to the smart championship S. C. eleven of '28. The first week of practice does indicate this, however, that Howard Jones is now developing an unusually interesting system of attack for his latest football creation. Whether his material is capable of putting this system to its proper use and getting the best out of it is another question. Only when the Trojans are under the fire of a strong opponent can this interesting little problem be answered. Until the Southern Californians can be seen in action against one or two When sour milk is to be substituted for sweet in making quick breads and cakes use the same quantity of sour milk and enough baking soda to neutralize the acid, or one scant half test spoon for each cup of sour milk. For griddle cakes and thin batters the soda and sour milk generally furnish enough leavening, for thicker batters and dough require some baking powder in addition In substituting sweet milk for sour use four teaspoons of baking powder for each spoonful of soda if no other acid ingredient is used, such as molasses. If such an acid is used, some soda is needed. NOTICE OF SALE OF PROPERTY DELINQUENT, FOR NON-PAYMENT OF BOND NO. 6, SERIES NO. K, ISSUED FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF NORTH AND SOUTH PALM STREETS. Default having been made in the payment of the following named coupons, to-wit: Interest coupon for $4.01, which became due 7-2-28. Interest coupon for $3.41, which became due 1-2-29. Interest coupon for $3.08, which became due 7-2-29. Principal coupon for $9.72, which became due 1-2-29. And the holder of said bond having on the 17th day of September, 1929, duly demanded in writing that the Treasurer of the City of Anaheim proceeded to advertise and sell the lot or parcel of land mentioned in the said bond. Now, therefore, notice is hereby given that I, Chas. A. Boege, Treasurer of the City of Anaheim, under and by virtue of the authority vested in me by law. The fair board feels fortunate in being able to get Mr. Lee to serve as our secretary, as we feel we can all benefit by his experience, stated H. A. Lake, president of the fair association. Lee for the present is volunteering his services to the good of the Orange County Fair, the same as other members of the board and leaders in a score of county-wide civic organizations, who by their untiring work in the past have made our fair a success. Financial support of the state for the fair is now at hand and with state wide recognition of the development of the Orange County Fair a fact, we feel that it is proper that we should start immediately on our plans for a bigger and better and more educational fair for 1930. Plans of our board, continued Mr. Lake, call for a county-wide membership campaign in the near future, which will be in charge of Mr. Lee, our new secretary, when promulgated. In a statement issued yesterday, Mr. Lee said: "I will do my best to help carry on the splendid work already done by that group of loyal citizens who have put the fair in the enviable position it occupies today, and if the people of the county, the newspaper men, the chambers of commerce, the fair, bureau, the Legion, the Spanish American veterans, the women's clubs and societies, the service clubs and the county board of supervisors will continue to co-operate in the future as in the past, we feel that within a reasonable time the Orange county fair will be on its own ground, owned by the county, with proper housing facilities backed by a loyal membership of two or three thousand boosters. After that continued success of the fair in its development of agricultural and industrial Orange county is assured. NEW TYPE OFFENSE Going into the second and final week of practice before the Pacific Coast Conference season opens with the Trojan-U. C. L. A. game on Sept. 28, Coach Howard Jones' University of Southern California varsity today reached the stage where denite indications of its 1929 type of offense were being given. Out of the kaieldoscopic mass of players running higher and you about Bovard field for the past week with six full teams and a flock of ambitious subs forming the ever-changing picture, the following facts can be gleaned about the latest edition Trojan offense: 1) As in the past the most distinctive feature of the Southern California attack will be its deceptive shifting of linemen as well as backs. Splitting ends will again be a prominent feature, and the dropping back of ends into the backfield on many plays be used even more than it was last year. 2) The driving Jones plays that pile up heavy interference and have become known as Jones' power plays, will still... vard field for the past week with six full teams and a fock of ambitious subs forming the ever-changing picture, the following facts can be gleaned about the latest edition Trojan offense: 1) As in the past the most distinctive feature of the Southern California attack will be its deceptive shifting of linemen as well as backs. Splitting ends will again be a prominent feature, and the dropping back of ends into the backfield on many plays be used even more than it was last year. 2) The driving Jones plays that pile up heavy interference and have become known as Jones' power plays, will still be the main spring in the Trojan running attack. However, there will be a greater number of reverses and along with these will be more varied spinners or fake reverses than heretofore. Formerly Coach Jones has not been in favor of a frequent use of reverse plays which involve a double and sometimes triple handling of the ball because of the danger of funbling, and with the new funble rule taking the touchdown danger out of bobbles he feels that he can venture more extensively into the crisscross type of play. 3) The quarterback will still be the main ball carrier but the right half, who has been almost exclusively an interference man in the past, will also do considerable ball packing. 4) The varied line formations of last year will be still more varied this season. Every new formation will have a special set of plays but the plays are so designed that they will all look alike until they are well under way. 5) The Trojan football system will be more distinctive than ever in many respects and several new developments in modern football-art are slated to be revealed as the season progresses. Whether the Trojan team wins or loses this year, its method of play will be decidedly of none but the Jones style and will retain the S. C. mentor among the front rank of football creative masters. Jones' plays are now being copied by many gridiron instructors throughout the country and the coming season's work of the Trojan coach in continuing to develop new methods of attack is expected to be as notable as heretofore.
