Rupert Hughes' Latest Novel To Appear In Gazette
The Gazette is pleased to make the announcement that the latest novel from the pen of Rupert Hughes, entitled "Souls for Sale," is to appear in serial form in its columns starting next week. So thrilling a story is it and so vividly depicted scenes does it have, that no reader will miss following this latest piece of work by so illustrious a writer as Hughes.
The author of this daring novel, born at Lancaster, Pa., spent the early part of his life as a soldier. After leaving army life he became interested in music and his many books and compilations on this subject are still standard works. Later his attention turned to fiction, and he wrote many famous novels including "What Will People Say," "Empty Pockets," "The Unpardonable Sin," and "What's the World Coming To?"
The work of Rupert Hughes is exceedingly valuable as social criticism and comment. Besides his fiction, he is the author of a life of George Washington, which caused considerable controversy, and has written the scenarios and titles of many very popular motion picture plays.
What he has learned about the movie capitol while engaged in the latter pursuit, is all told entertainingly and excitingly in the daring novel, "Souls for Sale."

Citrus Shipments Light Last Week
Because of the two-day holiday last week, the picking and packing period, citrus shipments were lighter than for the previous week, only 351 cars being sent out from the Northern Orange county district, as compared with 421 cars of the week before.
Better conditions prevail generally in the market, with prices stronger on many sizes and grades. Even more improvement is anticipated for the next week, according to Dale R. King, manager of the Northern Orange County Citrus Exchange.
Cooler weather has greatly reduced the demand for lemons and the market is not as strong.
The Northern Orange County Citrus Exchange shipped 250 cars of valencian and three cars of lemons.
Anaheim Man Is Killed In East
Word has been received here that C. Lippman, former resident of the city, was found dead in his automobile with a bullet hole in his chin in Sulphur, So. Dakota.
Lippman, who was motoring from this city to Lemon, S. D., is thought to have been held up and robbed.
A coroner's jury decided that he had been murdered by some person or persons unknown. Lippman lived in Anaheim but a short time, coming here from South Dakota and purchasing the Charles Mann garage, at 201 South Los Angeles street. He recently sold his business to return east.

Wonders of Make-Up Seen In "Madame X"
Sound pictures may revive what has come to be, on the screen, the "lost art" of stage makeup.
Lionel Barrymore when he directed "Madame X," Merto-Goldwyn-Amyer's all-talking illumination of the noted play which comes to the Fox theatre, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Sep. 16, 17, and 18, assembled a cast of actors who, practically without exception, all wore makeup disguises, such as are used on the stage, in their roles. In past years this has not been done on the screen, as actors have been chosen by "types," so that their natural appearances would fit the parts.
Ruth Chatterton, who plays the heroine, starts as a young woman, and, by means of makeup, portrays five different stages of advancing age in the new picture. Lewis Stone, who plays the
