Orange County Fair Bigger and Better Will Open on Labor Day, Sept. 3, and Continue Through Week Inspired by the excellent results obtained in 1927, directors of the Orange County Fair are redoubling their efforts this year to make the fall classic once more "Bigger and Better." The Orange County Fair in 1928 will open on Labor Day, September 3, and continue through until Saturday night, September 8, and according to officials of the association will be crammed full of wonderful exhibits and extraordinary entertainment. The motif selected this year for decorative purposes is indeed in keeping with the general surroundings of this community. The main feature palace and all other departments will carry out the idea of the "Garden Beautiful" and according to those who will have charge of this particular feature of the work, the people of this county will view at the fair this fall one of the most wonderful decorative effects ever attempted at a show of this kind. Ferns, flowers and shrubbery will be used in great profusion and exhibitors have expressed some wonderful ideas which they will carry out in conforming to the motif. According to George T. Kellogg of Yorba Linda, director in charge of the feature and agricultural department of the fair, space for exhibits will be at a premium according to the number of communities and organizations who have signified their intention of placing an exhibit at the show. Secretary-Manager Hunt states that exhibitors are breaking all records set in 1927 in their demands for space and expects the sold-out sign to be in a prominent place long before the gates are thrown open. "We are of the opinion that records had been set during the 1927 season which would last for some time," tasted Hunt today in referring to the fair, "however, from all indications this year will be our greatest. Orange county is rapidly realizing the place which the fair holds in its program of development and we are now receiving support from sources of which we never had the fondest hopes of reaching." Directors of the Fair Association have decided to meet every two weeks from now until the sho wis over, according to President Lake. The next meeting will be held on July 12. It is expected that various phases of the program will be taken up at this time and contracts not arranged for at the last meeting will be decided. S. W. Stanley, the Trustin representative on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Fair to be held September 3 to 8, will be one of the busiest men in Orange county during the next two months. Stanley is chairman of the ground committee and will have the greater part of the ground planning and construction work to supervise for the coming show. In addition he is in direct charge of the livestock department, all of which makes a fair sized job for any man who is actively engaged in farming one of the best walnut groves and orange orchards in the county. County Farm Advisor Leaves For Berkeley Farm Advisor Wahlberg will leave on July 9 for Berkeley to attend the sessions of the American Institute of Co-Operation. Co-operative leaders from all parts of the United States and Canada will meet at the University of California for the Institute to discuss the major problems of scientific and orderly marketing of all agricultural commodities. Lido Isle Opening Held Last Sunday Magic Island Introduced to the Neighboring People Last Sunday was the opening of Lido Isle in Newport Bay, which included a program of sport events at the new Lido Isle Yacht club, initiating the club and at the same time introducing this magic island to its closer neighbors, according to John P. Elsbach, who is developing the project. This pre-opening wa sfor neighbors only, no invitation having been published in any of the Los Angeles papers. This week, however, the entire metropolitan area will be invited to see the island. Elsbach explained. Preparations for this event have been underway for six months and all plans for showing this unusual island have been carefully worked out. Speed boats will ply all day long between the two new Lido Isle landings on the mainland and the beautiful Venetian landing float at the clubhouse on the south shore of this 108-acre island. One of the mainland landings is on the coast highway just where this great ocean boulevard comes closest to the north shore of the bay, and the other is at the Southern Seas club in Balboa near the Balboa pavilion. All visitors were transported to and from the island at their request absolutely without charge or obligation. The sports program included speed boat races, yacht races, swimming events, aquaplaning, and canoe tilting, with music by a noted orchestra. Co-operating with the Lido Isle sports committee in the arrangement of this program are the Newport Harbor Yacht club, the Southland Sailing club, the Southern Pacific Association of the Amateur Athletic Union, and the Out Board Motor Boat Association. Guests were welcomed at the new club building, which is a fine example of Mediterranean architecture designed by Harry McAfee of the Lido Isle Architectural board. Hoover, Republican candidate for President of the United States, will push the Jardine plan for federal farm board to guide and assist agriculture, the interest in the coming visit of Secretary of Agriculture, William M. Jardine, to the American Institute of Co-Operation in Berkeley is increasing. The secretary will address the Institute Tuesday evening, July 24. Secretary Jardine is an outstanding figure in the agricultural history of the nation, leaders of the Institute point out, and through the most determined drive organized agriculture ever has made upon a Congress, he has been the advisor of the President. An opener from the time it first was proposed, ponent of the McNary-Haugen bill, from the time it first was proposed, he has fought it consistently, and the President has backed the secretary's judgment with a veto of the measure. Whether Secretary Jardine will speak on this subject or some other phase of the agricultural situation is not known; but he has been on each of the preceding programs of the Institute, and his known friendliness to its pro- BUYERS of Printing are commencing to realize that "Printing That Sells" must be effectively different... they desire to obtain quality work at prices that are reasonable... the combination exists just phone Anaheim 72 to obtain own and control their beaches and may erect their individual piers, floats and moorings for small boats. The general plan for the island was designed by Franz Herding, well-known city planning architect, after visits and careful study of all the foremost watering places of Europe as well as the still water colonies on the Atlantic Coast and along the inland waterways of the eastern states. His plan combines novelty and practicability. Harry Welch and David Miller are in charge of the Orange county offices of John P.
