First—He may enter the "gyp" field and make a worthless, cheap tire at a low price, with little or no regard to quality. Second—He may make a standard competitive tire-selling at a moderate price—a method a big majority of tire manufacturers are doing today. Third—He may make a fair quality tire—a tire for the user that does not see the advantage in the best quality being the cheapest tire as far as service is concerned. Fourth—He may make an extra quality tire—made of the finest materials and workmanship—a tire not controlled by competitive prices, but by the cost of materials that go to make up the quality of the tire in question. India Tire and Rubber Company places itself in this last classification. When ten years' experience of building quality tires and that same quality tire bringing them marked success, then it is good judgment to take the road that means 100 per cent quality. India does not have any ambition to become large by cheapening the merchandise they sell. It is their policy to produce the best tire and tube humanly possible to make. Such a product should mean less grief and will insure future business for every satisfied user. India does not propose to sell everyone, nor it could not if it wanted to. It always has and always will cater to those discriminating buyers who are willing to spend a dollar when they get more than a dollar in return. It always has been the intention on the part of India officials to build a tire that would appeal through greater mileage rather than through lower prices. West Brothers have been Orange county distributors for the India Tire and Rubber Company for the past three and one-half years, and they are proud to be able to handle a tire of super LOCAL BREVITIES Slight frosts were reported from several sections of Southern California last week, but the cold was not severe enough to cause any damage. There was no sign of frost in Anaheim. Plans are being made by members of the Anaheim lodge of Masons for the formal installation of the new set of officers, the ceremonies to be held on the evening of January 6. Officers are as follows: Thomas Lumsdon, worshipful master, succeeding William P. Webb, Jr.; Darroll P. Webb, senior warden; William D. Kohlenberger, junior warden; E. H. Metcalf, secretary; J. H. Atkins, treasurer. Master-elect Lumsdon is expected to announce his appointments to the appointive offices of the lodge within the next few days. The installation ceremonies are to be open to the public and an elaborate program is being planned for the occasion. That there will be 45,000 registered voters in Orange county at the coming elections was the opinion voiced by J. M. Backs, county clerk, when he announced the beginning of new registration on January 1. At the elections two years ago there were 41,726 registered electors, he recalled. If his predictions are correct, there will be an increase of over 3000 at the coming primaries. Registration and transfers for the May 1 primary will close March 31, for the August primary they will close July 28, while for the general election of November 6, registration will close October 6. Backs declared. "I am quitting. I am going home to the folks." This is the ultimatum which Otto Puchert, of Anaheim, says his wife, Gladness Puchert, gave him last June, when they separated. Now he has an interlocutory decree of divorce from her. Apparently he doesn't think he is going to miss much, for he stated in his complaint that she seldom cooked his meals, spending most of her time reading magazines. Well Supplied With California Lemons More Available for December Shipments Than Ever Before A greater quantity of lemons is available for sale in American markets during the balance of December than in any previous year, according to T. H. Powell, lemon sales manager of the California Fruit Growers' Exchange. "We have been shipping all the lemons available for many weeks and are moving a lot of fruit compared with other years," said Mr. Powell. "We shipped 25 cars of lemons per day in December, 1926, when there was a heavy storage, and are shipping nearly the same amount this month, in addition to a heavy supply of foreign lemons for this season of the year." California lemons have enjoyed a wonderful market for four months. With normal seasonal demand and the present supply, the market is returning to a more moderate basis. The high prices have been welcome but have seriously restricted distribution, Mr. Powell points out. Retail prices have been so high that consumption has been cut down in many markets, and it will take some time to recover this consumer demand after the wholesale prices decline to a normal basis. "The exchange supplied 97 per cent of the California lemon shipments for November," stated Mr. Powell, in calling attention to the fact that exchange growers, due to their efforts to equitably distribute their products, usually supply a greater percentage of shipments on a high market. Foreign lemons have recently been selling to good advantage in New York and are reported to show relatively good quality and grading. California fruit, however, is commanding a very substantial premium. Quicksilver Ores Found in Nevada India does not propose to sell everyone, nor it could not if it wanted to. Apache Trail Now Open for Travel The Apache Trail route is now open, according to a late report received from the touring department of the National Automobile Club. Leaving Phoenix, Arizona, the first 24 miles are paved, then good gravel the remaining distance to Globe. This highway was closed for several months due to the fact that the Horse Mesa dam waters flooded a portion of the road. The distance from Phoenix to Globe via this route is 118 miles. This splendid highway follows the old trail used by the Apache Indians in their raids on the Arizona and Mexican plain dwellers. The old trail itself is visible in many places from the present highway, and the Apache Indian still makes himself at home in the country he formerly terrorized. It traverses one of the most interesting parts of Arizona, a section whose recorded history goes back to the sixteenth century and which is dotted with monuments of a prehistoric civilization. There are many cliff dwellings and ancient ruins in the canyons of the Sierra Anchas, north of the trail. Roosevelt dam is at the narrow mouth of a canyon cut by the waters of the Tonto and Salt rivers and is built of rough marble blocks hewn from the cliffs between which it is wedged. This dam was the first unit of the project for the reclamation of the Salt River valley, and has been instrumental in converting 240,000 acres of desert into very rich agricultural districts and has created three lakes—Roosevelt lake, 30 miles long; Apache lake, 14 miles long; and Canyon lake, 12½ miles long. These lakes have greatly intensified the beauty and interest of the Apache Trail. Carload shipments of fresh fruit and vegetables practically doubled in number during the last eight years. Outdoor Christmas Trees Very Popular Are you having an outdoor Christmas tree? If not, why not? These questions are being asked by leading civic organizations of Southern California as the Yuletide season approaches. Gradually the outdoor Christmas tree has been coming into favor in Southern California, where usually the weather conditions are ideal for lawn parties. This year a number of leading civic organizations are urging all who can to use available trees and shrubbery on their lawns to carry out the Yuletide spirit. Last Christmas the Automobile Club of Southern California festooned vari-colored lights in the trees and shrubbery surrounding its headquarters at Figueroa and Adams streets, Los Angeles, and the effect was so pleasing that thousands of motorists drove by especially for the view. Passadena and other Southland cities have made a specialty of outdoor decorations, and it is believed that this year the endorsement of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, the Automobile Club of Southern California, and other large groups of patriotic citizens will cause the practice to become more general. It is pointed out also that in addition to the beauty of these outdoor Christmas trees alike for residents and visitors, they have advertising values for this section, since they indicate conclusively the enjoyable climatic conditions prevailing here during the winter. Last year more than a score of Southland cities had outdoor municipal Christmas trees. This year it is hoped that hundreds of them will adopt the pretty custom so that Yuletide greetings will be extended to visiting motorists in whatever section of Southern California they may roam during the holidays.
