The fact that there were two factions in the field yesterday rendered the contest for delegates to the Democratic county convention an exceedingly warm one—indeed, it might be put down at about 98 degrees in the shade. Both parties had abundance of workers scattered among the highways and byways, and some very responsible electioneering was done. The iron-clad test was administered in only a few cases, but the challenged ones swallowed it, with but one exception. One hundred and seventy-nine votes were cast. The delegates are Messrs. W. M. Bailey, A. Langenberger, Theo. Rimpau, and W. J. Smith. They are supposed to be favorable to the nomination of Robert W. Scott for assemblyman, H. M. Mitchell for sheriff, and A. M. Stephens for county judge.
The following delegates to the Democratic convention were elected in Santa Ana: Dr. Cummins, Fickas, Walker, and Ott. One hundred and fourteen votes were cast.
The Cajon Irrigation Company held a meeting at Kroeger's hall yesterday afternoon. The excitement of the primary election rendered the gathering rather small, for when did a man display much interest in the question of water when whisky was so freely dispensed? The following subscription paper was presented, which was numerously signed, the subscriptions amounting to $12,600:

The said capital stock to be paid in installments as needed in the prosecution of the work, in United States gold coin."
Officer Wartenberg returned last night, being unable to find his man. The object of his search was Ismael Romero, who is charged with stealing a trunk from the house of Abran Aguilar. He is also suspected of being the man who robbed the Chinaman at Mr. Scott's ranch, and is believed to have committed many other crimes. It is reported that he has recently been wounded in the leg by a pistol shot, and that he is secreted in the willows in the vicinity of the Sierrita rancho.
Among the arrivals by the train last evening was Mr. W. Gilbert and family. Mr. Gilbert has leased the lower story of the Grange Hall at the depot, and in a few days will have it stocked with a large assortment of groceries, dry-goods, hardware, etc. Mr. Gilbert has until recently been senior member of the firm of Gilbert & Moore, doing business at Cabazon, and we are told that he is a thorough business man.
Messrs. Look and Leonard have been butchering some very fine cattle lately. We noticed a cow tied in front of their shop last evening that was as fat as any we have ever seen.
Among the business done by the probate court on Monday was the following: Estate of S. Goldstein, deceased.—Petition for sale of real estate. Hearing continued until August 6. And accounts of Mendelson and P. Davis set for July 30, at 10 a.m.
George W. Barter, a former proprietor of The Gazette, but at present editor of the Brooklyn Vidette, is a candidate for the legislature from Alameda county, subject to the action of the Republican convention. George used to be a Democrat when he lived in a Democratic county.

P. A. Clark, agent for the Eclipse windmill is doing a good business, a fact to be accounted for as much by his business tact as by the superiority of the Eclipse over all other windmills.

Heavy Increase in Motor Registration
Orange County Registers 40,851 in First Six Months
An increase of 230,875 in the number of registrations of motor vehicles in California during the first six months of 1927 over the corresponding period of a year ago was reported by officials of the division of motor vehicles.
Evidencing the contention of the department that the so-called "point of saturation" is far from being reached and adding proof of the general prosperity of the state, the report shows ber of vehicles in a year. The total inclusive of passenger cars, solid and pneumatic tired trucks, motorcycles and trailers was 1,625,766.
This does not include non-residents, cars exempt from license fees as those owned by cities, counties and the state and public service corporations and those registered as dealers' cars. These would add several thousand to the total.
As a basis of comparison, the division made public the following table:
| Table | Column 1 | Column 2 |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| Passenger cars | 1,388,947 | 1,262,841 |
| Solid trucks | 36,322 | 39,290 |
| Pneumatic trucks | 162,798 | 157,439 |
| Motorcycles | 8,122 | 8,968 |
| Trailers | 29,577 | 26,353 |
| Row | Column 1 | Column 2 |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| 1927 | 1,388,947 | 1,262,841 |
| 2 | 36,322 | 39,290 |
| 3 | 162,798 | 157,439 |
| 4 | 8,122 | 8,968 |
| 5 | 29,577 | 26,353 |
This means, the division report said that there are 230,875 more vehicles on the highways now than a year ago.
All counties in the state showed gains. Even isolated Alpine, the state's baby county came in with 46 cars against 41 last year.
Los Angeles county kept its usual record by registering better than one-third of the vehicles; its total being 645,549. San Francisco came second with 126,163, and Alameda third with 119,067.
Other counties having large totals 46,105; Orange, 40,851; Sacramento, 39,-follow; San Diego, 62,003; Santa Clara, 845; San Bernardino, 37,933; San Joa-

Clarence Smith had a piece of glass taken from his arm by Dr. Bickford on Saturday afternoon, which had found lodgment in the flesh some three weeks before. He was scuffling with his brother at the home place, when he accidentally ran his right elbow through a pane of glass. He came into town, and the doctor cut out the piece of glass. Clarence says he wants no glass arms in his'n.
Chester Holcomb has been in town during the week from indio. He reports the melon crop shipped, 80 caribonds having been sent to market, mostly at satisfactory prices. The Indio melons found a competitor in Texas melons in eastern markets, but on the whole the season was profitable, notwithstanding altitudinous freight rates. Mr. Holcomb returned to the desert to prepare for the winter vegetable crop.
Walter Eymann has been engaged in making a tracing of the La Habra reservoir map at the water office. The object is to find the high water line. He has a lease on the premises for oil developing purposes, and discovered, the other day, that the location of what promised to be a very fine well was below the high water line. He proposes to have no such mistakes in the future.
Judge Shanley is in receipt of a letter from Mrs. Shanley, who is visiting with friends in Pittsburg, saying she had been called upon by a cousin of Mr. Falkenstein of this city, together with her husband. Mrs. Shanley adds that she is enjoying herself and having a pleasant visit.

"I must be all of twenty years ago that mother first gave me Syrup Pepsin
For those Fevers, Colds and Bowel Troubles of Childhood
How time flies. My good mother has gone to her rest, but I have faithfully relied upon her judgment and have given Syrup Pepsin to my two children since they were born. It is certainly a noble medicine and never fails of its purpose. I like to recommend it."
