Tourists Rushing To National Parks
Expect All Records to Be Broken By Visitors This Year
New records in motor travel to the 12 national parks of the West will be scored again this year, it is expected by authorities who are studying the tourist movement. Widespread desire to see the western scenic marvels, national advertising by community and state agencies, and increased popularity of the playgrounds will be the primary causes, it is believed. The touring is now well under way, following the recent announcement by the department of the interior of opening dates of the parks.
Yosemite, the most beautiful valley in the world in the opinion of many, with its wonders of El Capitan, Sentinel Rock, Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, Bridal Veil and Vernal Falls, will draw tens of thousands. Grand Canyon national park from the south rim is the other all-year park, and its trails and awe-inspiring views will again be big attractions.
Zion national park, one of the most inspiring and vividly colored scenic vistas, with majestic rock formations fittingly called Temple of Zion, Wall of Windows, Vermillion Cliffs, and Great White Throne, and other sculptural marvels, is now open. Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks and the Kalabah Forest are other wonderful scenic features of this territory, and from Zion a road leads directly to the north rim of the Grand Canyon, where the most inspiring views from the higher points of Grand Canyon national park are possible. The opening date for the north rim of Grand Canyon is July 1.
Sequoia national park, with the world's oldest trees in Giant Forest, with the tame deer and bear, its More Rock and Crystal Cave, is now the destination for thousands of Southern California motoring vacationists, according to the records.
Mesa Verde national park, with its cliff dwellings built into mountains by an ancient people again is proving aChilders Head of Poultry Department
W. C. Childers, a prominent hatchery-man of Santa Ana, became chairman of the Seven Southern Counties Poultry Department of the farm bureau, following the resignation of W. S. Hatch at a meeting of the department in San Diego, Saturday. The department represents the poultry interests of the seven southern counties of California, and sponsors the Southern California egg laying contest, the accredited breeders and hatcheries project, and the poultry pathological laboratory, as well as legislation affecting the poultry industry. Mr. Childers, having served in several public capacities before coming to California, is well equipped for the responsibilities he assumes with the office.
Earl Marharg, secretary of the Los Angeles County Farm Bureau, was chosen secretary for the department, taking the place of A. M. Stanley, who has held that position for the past four years. Mr. Marharg is in close touch with the pathological laboratory, which is now requiring some attention from the secretary, and his selection is therefore quite wise.
The resignation of W. S. Hatch, also a prominent Orange county poultryman, was accepted with deep regrets. Mr. Hatch is expecting to retire from active poultry work, devoting his time to rest in the interest of his health during the coming summer. He will retain only a nucleus of his famous Will Hatch strain for future breeding purposes. He has served as chairman of the department for the past three years, and his administration has seen the establishment of the much-needed laboratory and the passing of the experimental stage of the accredited breeders and hatcheries project.
Other business of the meeting was to discuss and adopt new regulations for the breeders and hatcheries project for the coming season. This project insures the production of healthy chicks from good laying strains and has proven great assistance to Southern California growers. Lately the several projects in the state have been unified, and in the future the same grades will be used against public use.
A road through the area from storm damage, even longer in miles and more original cost, will allow all those interested in the mountains to travel.
Either of the routes under discussion offers tags. Eithes-road work or two large oak groves pottero road, in particular a fine grove of 250 acres upper part of San Ma public use. Water is availnary camp ground purp officials would co-open up this fine path to be considered as one be gained in the expere necessary to put tha road through the moat that route is selected.
Any road built acco should be broad, safe and highway is to become to be a drawing card ment of the southern end for the Elsinore v bring recreation and pndents and visitors of tht must be a road due that without undue hazard.
SETTLERS LOSING
Whatever sympathy this state, and of this had with the Owens their dispute with the Angeles over the water quae be lost to them if tht utterly foolish policy oqaudect be not stoppect acts repudiated in totalinals punished. This is in tho people of Inyon coveire to retain public cannot afford to let dyne neither can they afford by word or act. More man no matter where he may be his business wedge that sort of work being a good citizen.

The Service of Supply
Citrus growers having demonstrated that co-operation in selling was profitable to them, logically turned to collective buying as a means of additional saving. And still more important, as insurance that essential orchard and packing house supplies would always be ready when needed.
Behind the yearly car shipment totals stand so amazing service figures from the Fruit Grow Supply Company, which purchases supplies Exchange members.
One hundred million feet of lumber are required annually by the Supply Company for the making box shook.
Last year 25,654 kegs of nails (2,565,400 lb) were supplied Exchange associations for box making. Labels required totaled 16,060,998.
Exchange fruit required 4,900,000,000 wrapping which means 6,125 tons of tissue.
Half a million pounds of packing house powder were purchased by the Supply Company.
In excess of nine million gallons of heater oil furnished last year, 2,142,000 gallons being shipped.

Groves of Exchange members absorbed 13,700 tons of commercial fertilizer (second largest in California) and 39,225 tons of manures, with total value of $883,267.
Fruit crops must move on time. Delay is expensive. The Fruit Growers Supply Company assists the vast quantity of materials needed to prepare the crop for market. It operates at cost and large sums through quantity buying, but its great value is service.
Talk to the manager of the nearest Exchange Association or District Exchange. Or, write further information to California Fruit Growers Exchange, Box 530, Station "C," Los Angeles.

What the Exchange IS
The California Fruit Growers Exchange is a non-profit organization of 11,000 California citrus fruit growers, producing about 75% of the California citrus crop, operated by and for them on a co-operative basis. Its objective is to develop the national and international market for California oranges, lemons and grapefruit by concerted effort, and to provide a marketing organization that will sell the fruit of members most advantageously and at the least expense. Receipts from sales, less only actual costs of operation, are returned to the growers.
Applications are received through all of the Exchange's 201 local packing association or at the central office in Los Angeles.

against public use.
A road through the mountains free from storm damage, even though it be longer in miles and more expensive in the original cost, will commend itself to all those interested in the opening of the mountains to travel.
Either of the routes that have been under discussion offers scenic advantages. Elites-road would open up one or two large oak groves. The Verdugo potrero road, in particular, would bring a fine grove of 250 acres of oaks in the upper part of San Mateo canyon into public use. Water is available for ordinary camp ground purposes. The forest officials would co-operate fully in opening up this fine park. Its value is to be considered as one of the ends to be gained in the expenditure that will be necessary to put the Verdugo potrero road through the mountains in case that route is selected.
Any road built across the range should be broad, safe and of easy grade. We want no grade tragedies. If the highway is to become popular, if it is to be a drawing card for the development of the southern end of the county and for the Elsinore valley, if it is to bring recreation and pleasure for residents and visitors of the two counties, it must be a road that can be traveled without undue hazard.
SETTLERS LOSING FRIENDS
Whatever sympathy the people of this state, and of this country, have had with the Owens river settlers in their dispute with the city of Los Angeles, over the water question, will soon be lost to them if the criminal and utterly foolish policy of dynamiting the aqueduct be not stopped, the criminal acts repudiated in toto, and the criminals punished. This is the job before the people of Inyo county, if they desire to retain public respect. They cannot afford to let dynaming go on, neither can they afford to encourage it by word or act. More than this, the man, no matter where he lives, or what may be his business, who does encourage that sort of work falls short of being a good citizen.
