During Past Eight Years West Brothers Expand Their Equipment Greatly
Back in 1919, on October the 18th, in the building which the older inhabitants in the earlier days knew as Hahn's livery, two brothers started in the auto electrical and storage battery business. This old building was remodeled to suit their business and they opened their doors, strangers to all local citizens.
Success seemed to be with them from the start. They worked hard and made a host of friends. As a more modern structure was necessary, they had a large concrete building erected in 1923 (with double the floor space that they had in their old building) modern and the lot that adjoined them upon up-to-date in every particular, upon Chestnut street.
Still their business grew and they found again that they needed more room. As soon as plans were under way for the new Pickwick Terminal building, these brothers leased the two large corner rooms as their salesroom, at Los Angeles and Chestnut streets, which is the exact location where they began business more than seven years ago.
With this new building, they are also retaining their own building upon Chestnut street, which gives them approximately five times the floor space which they had back in 1919. The old location is their service department, battery repair department, electrical repair, vulcanizing and retreading departments.
They also have a branch store at First and Cypress streets. Santa Ana; These brothers, Claude H. and Floyd G. Wert, held their formal opening Monday, and invite each and everyone to visit them in their new home.
FUR FACTS
The value of the annual catch of fur-bearing animals 25 years ago was roughly estimated at $25,000,000; says the biological survey of the United States department of agriculture. Today it is placed at more than $60,000,000, and even this figure would doubtless have been exceeded if the supply had been maintained. Serious students of conservation feel that the fur resources are not being given deserved attention.

A SHORT CUT to sales
A Pacific Coast steel broker learned that a competitor was enroute to Cuba where a large order for steel was to be placed. The broker had faced such situations before. He reached for the telephone, called the customer in Havana and in a few minutes closed the $300,000 sale—expense, days of delay and loss of the business avoided.
The telephone on your desk makes any market speedily and economically accessible to you.
Many new and practical uses of Long Distance are no doubt applicable to your business. These will be cheerfully discussed with you upon request to the Business Office of the Telephone Company.

GROWING FOREST TREES
Orange county is taking the matter of reforesting its watersheds very seriously, and plans for this extensive and important work are well advanced. A nursery for growing seedling trees is to be located in Orange County park, six miles from Santa Ana. Here, almost in the shade of great oaks and sycamores established for many years, the park manager is clearing ground for the seedlings and the transplant rows. An effort will be made to call the attention of picnic parties to the work, and thus carry on the campaign of education on the need of forests to protect the water resources of the county. The Orange County Farm Bureau, the State Agricultural Extension Service and the state forester are co-operating in the work.
WHO OWNS THE FORESTS?
The forest land of the United States, in round numbers, is split up approximately as follows: Federal government, 89,000,000 acres; states, 10,500,000 acres; municipalities and counties, 700,000 acres; large private owners, 220,000,000 acres; small private owners, 150,000,000 acres.
