LOCAL BREVITIES Coleman Traves came in from his ranch this week on a brief business mission. Coleman is setting out additional Valencia orange trees, and will soon have the prettiest 45-acre grove in the county. He has noticed quite a volume of water coming down the river since the recent heavy rains, which is the first time any quantity has run in the river bed for four years. Miss Wonifred Melrose, her nephew, Dicky, and her housekeeper, Mrs. Konig, have all been quite seriously ill with influenza, but are recovering. A $200,000 estate, left by the late Clinton A. Griggs of Anaheim, will be divided, under the terms of his will, half to the widow and half to the three children, Clarence, 21; Gertrude, 20, and Margaret, 14. It was shown when the widow, Mrs. May Griggs, filed the will in superior court for probate. Attorneys Ames and McFadden of Anaheim represent her. Griggs left property in Anaheim valued at $69,000, Long Beach property valued at $90,000, Santa Monica property worth $12,000, a note and mortgage amounting to $15,-000, household effects worth $550 and $3255 in cash, the probate petition sets forth. Charged with driving an automobile while intoxicated, Robert S. Carter, 28, Anaheim, was arrested Sunday by Walter Meyer, state traffic officer, near Anaheim. A companion in the machine with Carter, A. Gorman, also was arrested, charged with being drunk. The prisoners were taken to the county jail by Ed McClellan, chief criminal deputy sheriff, and Jack Combs, deputy sheriff. The Zion Lutheran parsonage, on Emily street, which for many years has been the home of Rev. H. G. Schmelzer and family, was pulled from its foundation Monday and moved to Placentia. The congregation will erect a better home for the pastor on the site. The Schmelzers are living temporarily on East Center street. was arrested, charged with being drunk. Two damage actions, aggregating $40,579 in demands, were filed in superior court by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Montenyohl and their daughter, Susan, aged 8, against Mrs. June H. Evans and Shirley Evans, the litigation being based on an automobile accident, near Tustin, last November 15. The Montenyohls live at 131 West Chartres street, Anaheim. Judgment for $10,579 is asked in one suit, for injuries received by Mrs. Montenyohl, and for medical expenses, besides automobile damage. In the other action, $30,000 is demanded for injuries to Susan Montenyohl, who was said to have suffered a skull fracture, which required a surgical operation to remove a portion of her skull. Attorneys Roger C. Dutton of Anheim and James L. Allen and James L Davis of Santa Ana represent the Montenyohls. The Central Parent-Teacher Association met Tuesday afternoon, in the Central kindergarten, with a good number in attendance, all joining heartily in singing our good patriotic songs, and after the business meeting the remainder of the time was given to Miss Mackey. In her enthusiastic way, she told of her work among the Mexican women, for whom we know she is doing a great deal. Rev. Dean Bode met with us and also gave his good talk of the needly work. A meeting of the Central executive board will be held next Monday, March 8, at the home of Mrs. Jack Waltz. Riley Closing Out C.T.C. Tire Business Is Writing “Finis” to His Well-Known Tire Depot Harry D. Riley, well-known C.T.C. tire distributor of Orange county, has successfully conducted that business for the past two years, is to close out his entire stock of tires and tubes. It is with exceeding regret that Harry D. Riley disposes of his tire business, as he has earned a place in the hearts of the people and the tire merchants with which the firm has been associated during the past two years. Riley, well-known C. T. C. tire distributor of Orange county, has successfully conducted that business for the past two years, is to close out his entire stock of tires and tubes. It is with exceeding regret that Harry D. Riley disposes of his tire business, as he has earned a place in the hearts of the people and the tire merchants with which the firm has been associated during the past two years. In order to devote 100 per cent attention to the distribution of Studebaker automobiles, Studebaker service and Studebaker parts, Mr. Riley reluctantly decided to relinquish the distributorship in Orange county for C. T. C. tires and tubes. In doing so he sever his business relationship with more than seventy-five Orange county tire merchants, who will wholeheartedly regret the passing of the Harry D. Riley C. T. C. tire depot. And to mark the passing of the Harry D. Riley C. T. C. distributorship, Mr. Riley has inaugurated a "Parting-of-the-way" sale, preferring to allow his silientele to obtain the benefit of the wholesale prices which will prevail rather than dispose of his stock to another distributor. Accordingly, he has arranged that every tire and tube at his whole distributing depot, 151 South Los Angeles street, Anaheim, will be retailed at wholesale prices in order to entirely close out the stock. In some instances, tires and tubes can be purchased at less than actual cost, and then there will be some wonderful bargains for everybody. Mr. Riley points out that this is not a stock-taking or fire sale, but a real honest-to-goodness closing out sale, with prices cut to rock-bottom in order that the entire stock may be cleared out in the shortest possible time. Knowing the reputation of C. T. C. tires and tubes in this district as thousands do, it is highly probably that there will be a tremendous rush to get i non the big bargains which will be offered. And it will be well to remember that old adage, "The early bird catches the worm." Mr. Riley now has the entire county for the distribution of Studebaker automobiles, and the business has expanded so that it will require his entire attention. This fact, together with other enterprises in which he is connected, resulted in his decision to write "finis" to C. T. C. tires and tubes.
