Following are extracts from the November bulletin issued each month by the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce:
TOURNAMENT OF ROSES: Anaheim will enter the Tournament of Roses. The beautiful float which was in the Armistice day parade will be reconstructed and made into a fountain of flowers. The beauty of this float is assured, since the art department of our high school and the art pupils are going to make this creation. Our high school is proficient in this work and will participate in this commuity endeavor to the fullest extent.
The association of our high school pupils with community projects is mutually beneficial. These young people are led to see the benefit of community cooperation and at the same time give expression to their own ideas which is education.
This float is to be made of flowers. In order that the expense may be reduced to the minimum the citizens of this community, growing any kind of flowers, are asked to notify the Chamber of Commerce the flowers they are willing to donate for this purpose. We are especially desirous of securing a number of roses and carnations, but flowers of any kind, any color, will be accepted. These flowers should be cut early Thursday morning, December 31st and delivered, if possible, to the Chamber of Commerce by 9:00 a.m. If you cannot deliver the flowers, inform the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and he will have them collected.
In support of this as a community project the Glendale Chamber of Commerce has for years taken first prize. The community grows the flowers and the decoration is taken care of by the community with an expert decorator. I am sure the citizens of Anaheim are as deeply interested in the way Anaheim shall be received by the public as Glendale. We will urge to bear this in mind, take care of the flowers and get them to us.
CALIFORNIA VALENCLA ORANGE SHOW: Plans are being made for the Orange Show. This Orange Show is really a California Valencia Orange Show because it will encompass not been requested to give a full and complete reptro of their assets and liabilities, to present blue prints of the building they expect to erect on the site and give some certified statement regarding the marketing of the furs and the meat. After this has been submitted the Industrial committee of the Chamber of Commerce will be in a position to consider it.
NEW BUSINESS AND INDUSTRIES: Following is a list of new businesses and industries that have come to Anaheim during the last month:
The Seibel Air Springs Co., Inc., has purchased the site formerly owned by the Anaheim Metal Industry. This company has been in operation for three or four years and makes a seat that is used at the present time on tractors, trucks and may be used on cars and other pieces of machinery for the purpose of making the machine in question, ride easy. Mr. Henry Seibel, an engineer, has come to Anaheim to make this his home. He has already purchased a home and says he has moved the last time. Mr. Seibel comes to us well recommended by all parties with whom he has done business. We welcome him to Anaheim and trust that his industry will be a great success.
The Snap-O-stat Co., Inc., located at 135 West Elm street, Anaheim, California, is wholly an Anaheim industry. The men who compose this company are: C. C. Lamb, H. L. Briscoe, J. E. Hamlin, and W. N. Wimmer. The patentee is L. D. Schnapp, an Anaheim man.
The Snap-O-stat is a gas control on a water-heater and can be readily attached to any boiler without the slightest damage to it. The company has just opened up its plant and is beginning to manufacture the first thousand. About twenty have already been installed in the homes and business places in Anaheim and are working with the greatest success.
We are calling attention of the Anaheim people to this patent and to the men who are behind it. This company is entitled to the moral support of every citizen. Let us boost for it and help these men in making it a success. The Chamber of Commerce congratulates the Snap-O-stat Co., Inc.
The Haberdashery, one of Anaheim's new business houses, owned by Mr. N.
CALIFORNIA VALENCIA ORANGE SHOW: Plans are being made for the Orange Show. This Orange Show is really a California Valencia Orange Show because it will encompass, not only the citrus growers of Orange county, but all of the counties of Southern California. A general committee, composed of representative men of the different counties, will be called upon to assist and advise in the general policies of this show for the publicity of the citrus growers. In addition to this general committee, there is an executive committee, whose duties are to work with the manager, assist in completing the details of the show. This bulletin will inform you month by month of the progress the show is making. The success of this show demands the united support of the citizenship of Anaheim and Orange County. Surely you will give it.
ATTENTION MANUFACTURERS:
The federal government has asked the Chamber of Commerce of communities to cooperate with them in securing the census of every industrial and manufacturing plant. The questionnaire to be presented will be sent direct to the manufacturing industry. This questionnaire will come to you in January. The request of the federal government is that you fill it out as early as possible and return it to the census department. Recognizing that it will be impossible to get one hundred percent returned the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce is asked to assist in securing this data. This census is taken once every two years. Please be prompt in your reply to the government.
ARMISTICE DAY: The American Legion of Orange County and especially the members of Post No. 72 of Anaheim, under the direction of Commander R.E. Smith, are to be congratulated on the most successful Armistice Day yet held. The fine spirit of cooperation that came from every city in the county, the board of supervisors and the citizens in general, shows that Orange County is able at all times to make a splendid representation. Here again the high schools of the county show how they can cooperate with the community through their bands. The Santa Ana Fullerton and Anaheim high school bands and the Whittier State school are to be congratulated on the splendid music they produced.
We in Anaheim should get behind our high school band and give it assistance, not only in the way of moral support but financial as well. We would call attention of our city trustees to the fact that the boys of the Anahelm High school should receive financial assistance, in order to constantly and continuously develop a band upon which the project of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce has for years taken first prize. The community grows the flowers and the decoration is taken care of by the community with an expert decorator. I am sure the citizens of Anaheim are as deeply interested in the way Anaheim shall be received by the public as Glendale. We would call attention of our city trustees to the fact that the boys of the Anaheim High School should receive financial assistance. In order to constantly and continuously develop a band upon which the community can feel free to call for music at any time.
Not only was this parade a great success, but the program that had been arranged for the entire day was excellent. The football game, the swimming contest, and the fashion show kept the entire throng entertained throughout the day, while the feature of the evening was a dance at the Elks' Club which was enjoyed by everyone.
In keeping with the spirit of Armistice Day, all the merchants of Anaheim closed their stores and enjoyed the events. Boys of the American Legion again we congratulate you.
MANCHESTER ROAD: A meeting of the Manchester Road association was held in Downey. If there are those in Orange county who desire to get a little pep for road building all that you have to do is attend one of these meetings. The citizens living on this road from Playa Del Rey on the west to San Diego on the south are enthusiastic over the building of this one hundred foot highway. Anaheim was represented by Dr. H. A. Johnston, president of the Chamber of Commerce, J. E. Schumacher, John Price, city manager, Wm. Schumacher, supervisor and your secretary Geo. W. Reid. The development of this road has been checked awaiting a decision of the supreme court and a decision will be handed down about April, 1926.
GOLDEN WEST FUR COMPANY: No further developments have been made with the Golden West Fur company. There is a statement that has been going around that the Community Industrial Land company has or will deed ten acres of this land to the rabbit industry. We wish to state this information is incorrect. This request has been made by the fur company, but has not been granted. The fur company has
