Lest We Forget
ARMISTICE DAY
NOVEMBER ELEVENTH
Seven years have passed into eternity since that gray November day when nations penned a truce, and the world paused to bury its mangled dead and bandage up its bleeding sons.
Seven peaceful years have followed, all so filled with busy enterprise and prosperity that we are apt to forget our sons, husbands and sweethearts who laid down their lives, for you and for me.
Let us not forget, but let us pray for them and that they have not died in vain.

Fullerton assignments are: "Primitive Indians—Our First Settlers"; "Gaspar De Portola, San Diego, 1769"; "First Spanish Settlement," San Fernando Mission, 1796; "American Flag Raising, Monterey, 1840."
Brea: "Sebastian Viscaino Discovering Monterey Bay, in 1836"; "San Gabriel Mission, 1771"; "California's Revolt Against Mexico, 1836"; "First Public School, San Francisco, 1836"; "Vigilantes, San Francisco, 1856"; "Industry."
Huntington Beach: "Arrival of Russian Count Rosenoff, San Francisco, 1806"; "Amusements of Spanish Era," Mexican Balle," First Railroad, 1869."
Garden Grove: "Covered Wagon"; Nowport Harbor, Commerce"; Orange; Fray Juniper Serra Ending His Career at Carmel, 1874; "Followers of Portola, 1769"; "Kit Carson's Adventures," Water Development," Flags That Have Flown Over California."
Anahelm's assignments were made last and are not definitely assured, owing to several rejections of subjects. However, the committee believes Anahelm will take care of every float that is necessary to complete the pageant.
All of the veterans' organizations of the county will occupy places in the marching division, and the members of the G.A.R. will ride in carriages at the head of the marching division. The Gold Star Mothers will ride near the head of the parade in special cars. All flags and standards will be massed at the head of the column.
The leading athletic features of the day will be the football game between the eleven from the Colorado and Arizona battleships, and the swimming meet to be held in the City Park plunge.
Merchants of the city have joined with the committee in presenting a brilliant fashion show in which nearly 100 high school students, trained especially for the occasion by Miss Lucille Bickley, dramatic instructor, will display the latest models of men's and women's wearing apparel. This event will be held on Center street, between Lemon and Los Angeles.
In the evening, the crowning event will be a grand ball at the Elks' clubhouse. Oscar Heying is chairman of the committee in charge of this feature, and he has announced it will be the most brilliant social event on the season's calendar.
Plans for the feeding of the countless thousands who will be in Anahelm on that day are in the hands of Ed Duffy, who is preparing to feed upwards of 40,000 at a barbecue which will be served on Lemon street, between Center and Cypress.
No detail has been overlooked, and the Legion's committee has met with a generous response from the merchants, the luncheon clubs, fraternal and civic organizations and the city officials which will insure the success of this, the greatest undertaking of its kind ever attempted here.
R.E. Smith is chairman of the general committee, and his sub-committees are headed by J.G.Hilleary and Art Shipkey, finance; Miss Freda Janas, general secretary; Earl Fulfer, in charge of headquarters; H.D.McFarland, entertainment; Clark Chamberlain, publicity; Alfred Bayless, music; Jimmie Heffron, football; Warren Ashleigh, swimming; Qus Prescott, specialties; Charles Pearson, stands and transportation; Paul Tedrick, parking.
Among the many features arranged for the big Armistice Day celebration to be held here next Wednesday, November 11, the football game and the swimming meet hold promise of proving the greatest magnets. Both of these events would do credit to cities much larger than Anahhelm, and the Armistice Day committee feels honored by being able to present them on this occasion.
Through the courtesy of the city trustees and park superintendent, Warren Ashleigh, the plunge at the City Park has been prepared for the swimming meet, which will be a regularly sanctioned event under the direction of competent officials of the A.A.U., and valuable watches will be given the winners.
Duke Kahanamoku, famous Hawaiian swimmer, will give several exhibitions, and has announced he will try to shatter a number of records. Florence Chambers, an attractive San Diego girl, holder of numerous records for women, will compete in the four events listed for the fair mermaids, and many equally prominent swimmers will compete in the men's events.
There will be four events for women and the same number for men, with a special diving exhibition by both sexes, and the duke's exhibitions.
The gridiron contest is expected to be the piece-de-resistance of the day's program. The battleship teams are said to be even matched, and great rivalry exists between the crews, which is expected will bring a large delegation of sailors here for the day.
The football game has been insured against rain to the extent of $5000, indicating the insurers expect at least 10,000 attendance.

ARMISTICE DAY
NOVEMBER 11th, 1925
To those brave, bright-eyed, eager men—who gave their life without question—in its bright and glorious beginning—to their country—that the world might be made safe for DEMOCRACY—we gratefully and reverently dedicate our thoughts and prayers and solemn thanks, on Armistice Day.
May we remember always, through the long dim future years—our sacred trust, and honor forever the memory of those American men, who made the supreme sacrifice that America might remain the "LAND OF THE FREE"

May America's fair land never be darkened by the bloody clouds of war, nor its maiming hand be laid upon our sons; nor its blighting breathe lay waste our homes. May the cannon's roar remain forever hushed, in peaceful reverence for America's heroic dead.
