LEGION NOTES
State Commander Nathan F. Coombs and State Adjutant James K. Flisk of the American Legion have just returned to local headquarters, after a five days' tour of the Feather River canyon, including the Plumas national forest.
In a statement, Commander Coombs stressed the inestimable value of the Plumas national forest as a playground inherited by all the people of California. He said: "The American Legion as a great national organization sees no way more nfl liol'd.lw.ttmocotgat more fitting to combat the menace of communism than by developing in all the people an appreciation of the government of the United States, and this is most easily accomplished through recreation. I was greatly pleased over the beauties of the Feather River canyon, and we are glad to take up 100 acres in the Plumas national forest as a playground for former service men."
With State Commander Nathan F. Coombs and State Adjutant James K. Flisk in attendance, the American Legion members in Lassen county dedicated a memorial building at Westwood, Lassen county, on July 4, in memory of those from that section who died in the World War.
The building was erected by the Red River Lumber Company and was accepted in the name of the Legion men by the two state officials of the organization.
Marie Heffern, Martha Henning, Geraldine Kraemer, Anna Kraemer and the hostess, Mrs. Benjamin Kraemer.
The wedding will take place on August 4 at St. Mary's church, in Fullerton. The guests played "500" while they chatted of the happy event, high scores being made by Mrs. Frank Daniels and Mrs. E. Stoffel, Mrs. A. Yorba taking consolation.
WOOLWINE DEAD
Thomas Lee Woolwine, former district attorney of Los Angeles county, died at his home Tuesday. He was stricken with illness while in Paris, in December, 1923, and was near death for some weeks. He was brought home and began to recuperate, but after a relapse, last Saturday, his physicians gave up hope for his recovery. He was one of the best known men in the state, being twice candidate for governor.

With State Commander Nathan F. Combs and State Adjutant James K. Flask in attendance, the American Legion members in Lassen county dedicated a memorial building at Westwood, Lassen county, on July 4, in memory of those from that section who died in the World War.
The building was erected by the Red River Lumber Company and was accepted in the name of the Legion men by the two state officials of the organization.
Rev. Father Joseph Lonergan, national chaplain of the American Legion, is a visitor to California.
Father Lonergan was chaplain of the Twentleth Engineers and the Nineteenth Division during the World War and saw service at the front during much of the fighting.
The proposed national convention of the American Legion in Paris in 1927 was brought a step nearer by the recent offer of the Trunk Line Passenger Association to grant to all Legionnalres a railroad fare round trip ticket for the price of a one-way fare from any point in America to the port of embarkation and return, according to George J. Hatfield, California member of the Paris convention travel committee.
Reiteration of the warning that World War adjusted compensation certificates cannot at this time be used as the basis for loans, is being made by officials of the California department of the American Legion, following advices from Washington.
The Legion officials have been notified by Secretary of the Treasury Melton that certificates have been used for loans under circumstances not sanctioned by law, and declared that veterans should be warned against persons attempting to purchase bonus certificates.
