Anaheim Gazette ESTABLISHED 1870 ISSUED EVERY THURSDAY Henry Kuchel, Editor and Proprietor SUBSCRIPTION PER YEAR.....$1.50 SIX MONTHS .....$1.00 THREE MONTHS .....$ .50 Entered at the Anaheim Postoffice at second-class matter Diplomas Presented To 113 Graduates Largest Class in History of High School Passes Out Diplomas were presented Tuesday night to the largest class ever graduated from the Anaheim high school. There were 113 young gentlemen and young ladies in the class, an increase of 30 over the class of 1924. Harold J. Stonler, A.M., was the chief orator of the evening, and two young ladies had been selected to make the class addresses. Miss Helen Long was the salutatorian and Miss Evelyn Linderholm the valedictorian. Following is the program, which was presented to a large and appreciative audience; March, "Roman," by high school orchestra; song, "America the Beautiful," by the class; Invocation, Rev. Thomas Wajker; piano solo, "Witches Dance" (McDowell), Katherine Carney; vocal numbers, "Elves of the Sea" (Solomon), Gilby Cheathum; address, "The Supreme Test of Education," Harold J. Stonier, A.M.; salutatory, Helen Long; violin solo, Cavatine-Raff, June Borchert, accompanied by Florence Winters; valedictory, Evelyn Linderholm; presentation of class memorial, John Daly; acceptance, Everett Schneider; French horn solo, "Absent!" (Metcalf, Walter Heineman, accompanied by Herriet Austin); presentation of the class, Principal J. A. Clayes; awarding of diplomas, President The way those peace conferences and proposals are continually being blocked over in Europe leads us to doubt whether they really want peace. With W. J. Bryan acting for the state and Clarence Darrow and Dudley Field Malone for the defense in that Tennessee evolution trial, there probably will be a lot of monkey business. Now they say that the famous schooner Hesperus was never wrecked, which goes to show that Henry Ford may have been right about history, especially the poetic kind. The proposed marriage between Germany and Austria doesn't seem to be very popular in European social circles. The Bronx zoo in New York has a lot of new deadly African snakes, and they weren't brought over by the rum fleet, either. It is reported that because of the man shortage, France may soon raise some regiments of women for the army. They might be all right as shock troops, but how would they ever get over a barbed wire entanglement? The San Diego farm bureau has distributed 20,000 pounds of poisoned grain during the spring squirrel drive. New School Trustees County School Superintendent J. L. Mitchell has advised Frank N. Glibbs that he would appoint Miss E. Kate Rea and Homer Lewis to the vacancies on the grammar school board of this district. These selections are splendid and will meet with the cordial approval of all the people. Mr. Gibbs leaves on the seventeenth for St. Paul, Minn., as a delegate from the Klwansis Club to the national meeting of the clubs in that city. Pointed Paragraphs W. J. Bryan says that science has made war more terrible, but it does not seem that modern fighting has anything on the days when they used to puncture one another with iron-shod spikes and battle axes. France and Germany have just signed a potash agreement, which again proves that European enemies can always get together when there is a chance to trim somebody else. An insurance expert declares that most of the homes being erected now are very poorly built. But it doesn't make much difference as nobody stays in 'em anyhow. The Austrian republic has officially thanked us for aid rendered it in time of distress. Thanks seems to be about all we are going to get from Europe, and very little of that. It is reported that 55 per cent of the ballots in the recent German election were cast by women and that the other 45 per cent represented the silent vote. The cowboy mayor of Omaha and Secretary of Agriculture Jardine are going to have a calf roping contest. We know of several statesmen who can put it all over both of them at throwing the bull. A Chicago man held a perfect bridge hand the other day, 13 trumps, and It is reported that 55 per cent of the ballots in the recent German election were cast by women and that the other 45 per cent represented the silent vote. The cowboy mayor of Omaha and Secretary of Agriculture Jardine are going to have a calf roping contest. We know of several statesmen who can put it all over both of them at throwing the bull. A Chicago man held a perfect bridge hand the other day, 13 trumps, and a bridge expert says that this only happens once in six hundred billion hands. However, that might depend on who was dealing the cards. The way those British have boosted the price of rubber shows how they intend to re-tire the American debt. The French are said to be gradually forcing an agreement with the soviets for the repayment of the money which Russia borrowed from France for the World War. Evidently France is not always in favor of cancellation. "I intend to go out and wake up the country," cried the young college graduate. Next day he accepted a job selling alarm clocks in the rural districts. The University of Chicago announces that it could use $17,500,000 to great advantage. It hasn't got anything on us. William Jennings Bryan has delivered 5000 lectures. Don't think they didn't get him anything. Two Japanese were fined $25 each at El Centro last week for shipping green cantaloupes. In Riverside county extensive trials are being made of different spacings in cotton planting. A Brooklyn pastor calls W. J. Bryan a religious bigot and brings 16 accusation in an effort to prove it. Can't WJB ever get away from that 16-to-1 combination? ANAHEIM GAZETTE All of the European nations are willing to recognize their debt to America, but they do not seem to want to have anything more than a speaking acquaintance with it. Very often the man who kicks on giving the milkman 10 cents a quart will pay $10 a quart to the bootlegger and think that the bootlegger is doing him a favor. DOCTORS B. Franklin & Jennie A.
