J. R. Dix, of Long Beach pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless driving before Judge Kuchel and was fined $100.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Price and family spent Christmas with friends in Long Beach, eating their Christmas dinner with an aunt.
City Attorney William P. Webb is rapidly recovering at the Community hospital from the attack of appendicitis. Webb's condition was very serious for several days.
Morris W. Martenet, Jr., 810 South Los Angeles street, who is a second lieutenant in the Infantry Officers Reserve Corps, has been assigned to the 91st Division, Organized Reserves for duty in case of a national emergency.

George Karam, charged with possession of liquor, plead guilty in Judge Kuchel's court Tuesday and paid a fine of $400. Two counts were charged against him, and the judge fined him $200 on each count.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Melrose came down from San Francisco to spend Christmas with relatives here. Mr. Melrose returned home on Saturday, but Mrs. Melrose remains for several weeks longer.
H. M. Nelson, a scissors grinder was struck by a Santa Fe train at Richfield Friday and instantly killed, his neck being broken. His home was in Long Beach, but he was well known in this region.
The Christmas pageant given at the White Temple church last Tuesday evening, was repeated Sunday night, because many people who desired to see it participated in the Community Christmas entertainment given on the same night.
A car driven by J. W. Hess, of Santa Ana, crashed into a machine driven by W. P. Burton, of Los Angeles on Placeia avenue Thursday. Burton and Mrs. Ella Burton, of this city were both injured, but not seriously. They were treated at the sanitarium.
R. C. Berger has been appointed a member of the State Industrial committee which will co-operate with the California Development Association. Bird V. Beebe has also been honored by an appointment on the "Own Your Own Home" committee of the California Realty Board.

The estate left by Richard Melrose aggregating $20,000, consisting wholly of stocks, bonds and money. By his will $10,000 is left to his son, Allan Melrose, and $5,000 to each of his daughters, Mrs. Jessie Backs and Miss Winifred Melrose. F. A. Backs, Jr., is appointed executor.
An inspection of the proposed branch university site near Fullerton was made Wednesday by J. A. Smiley Orange, president of the Orange County Farm Bureau; J. A. Prizer, manager of the Placentia Growers' Association, of Fullerton and H. E. Wahlberg, Santa Ana, county agricultural agent.
Miss Bertha Lou Kampling, former nurse at an Anaheim hospital, was married on Christmas day in San Francisco to Ed. Schlim. The young couple motored down to Anaheim on a honeymoon trip. Mrs. Schlim is a sister of Herman Kampling and Mrs. Travis Cushman of this city.
The Anaheim Union Water Co. has put up gates on its property around Yorba Linda lake, and is attempting to keep traffic off the road which now circles the lake along the south edge. It is understood trucks have been using the road and cutting the roadway. The company is planning to prohibit traffic over the road. Some inconvenience has been caused ranchers living in that vicinity by the gates.
Mrs. Norseman and her daughters, Misses Clara and Adella Norseman, of Los Angeles, spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lewis of this city. Mrs. Norseman is one of the early settlers of Anaheim and has many friends here who are glad to hear of the improvement in her health.
Mrs. Helmsen entertained at a family dinner on Christmas day, it also being the birthday of her mother, Mrs. Cross. Covers were laid for ten. There were present Mr. and Mrs. George Cross, Mr. and Mrs. Juan Sanchez and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cross all of Puente.
Chaff in the vent pipe and glue of a coffee roaster in the Pacific Coffee & Tea store on East Center street Monday morning caught fire and a heavy volume of smoke belched forth. The department was called out, but the use of water was found unnecessary. The damage was very slight.
Characterized by spirited bidding, an auction sale of 223 acres of land near the county hospital, part of the estate of the late George Ford proponent pioneer, resulted this week in the acquisition of the tract by J. E. Schumacher of Anaheim for $165,005. The sale was conducted by Superior Judge Z. B. West as executor. Bidding was started at $100,600, this being an offer made by B. H. Sidnam, of Anaheim, Schumacher and Sidnam were the principal bidders at the auction. G. C. Allen of Garden Grove and C. L. Wilson also submitted offers.

A song leaders' training course is to be offered by the Santa Ana Y. M. C. A. as a special feature of its work for the new year. James A. McDill, director of boys' work, who is well known as a successful leader of group singing, will be the instructor. The course will be started on Thursday, January 22, and will continue on Thursday evenings for five weeks. It is open to all who are interested, both men and women. Careful instruction will be given in the directing of community singing, both popular and sacred. This course will afford an unusual opportunity for amateur leaders of song to gain facility in this work. Full information may be secured by inquiry at the Santa Ana Y. M. C. A. building.
