THIRSTY MAN SUSPECTED AS MARAUDER HERE Housewives of Santa Ana are urged by police to beware of the loitering type of man that comes to the back door and asks for a drink of water. This same man on as many as three different occasions is suspected of robbing three different homes in Santa Ana. In laying suspicion to this type of burglar, police have been told the same story by three Santa Ana housewives, after their homes had been entered and robbed. The man, tall, thin and with a white spot in one eye, sees the housewife out on the pavement, sweeping. He goes up to her and taking off his hat says: "Is there a hydrant here?" When told that there is he asks for a drink of water. After getting permission, he goes over to the hydrant and just before drinking says "'is there a cup here? I don't want to drink out of the faucet, I might get a bug in my mouth." Then when told there is no cup he says, "Well, I'll just step in the kitchen here." If he gets in, he makes a mental note of the architecture of the house. That night or the next, the house is robbed. Three times have the police found out that houses have been robbed recently, by apparently the same man, after the same "drink of water gag" has been staged by the strange man. Police say, "keep that man out of the kitchen if you would protect your jewels." POLITICAL BOTULUS "As a result of the course followed by the democrats in relation to the proposed tax legislation, 'declared" smirch the entire personnel of the cabinet. It will be sometime before the democratic party can purge itself og its evil association. It will be still longer before it regains the confidence it once enjoyed from a large share of the American people, even as a minority party. As was well said by a republican bureau, three or four days prior to election day, in commenting upon the fact that Davis and his followers were selling their birthright to the radicals: "There is poison in that mess of potage." It was political botulus and it left the democratic via dolorosa with corpses, the silver locks of Davis and the skull cap of Brother Charles ground in the mud at the summit. To the conservative democrats they were in a position to say that the democratic congress making a common cause with the La Follette bloc in congress were as much of a menace to the country as was the third party candidate himself." Governor Morrison's post-election diagnosis is accurate enough, but several months late. The republicans were in a position to do just as he indicates, and they were perfectly justified in taking advantage of that position. But the democratic vision during the campaign was not as clear as that of the Governor after the campaign had terminated in republican victory. The democrats had nothing but good words to say of the third party, and the manner in which Messrs. Davis and Bryan patted Messrs. La Follette and Wheeler on the back was exasperating to the old-line democrats. At one time Mr. Davis appeared to be very much wrought up because of republican flaying of Burt Wheeler. As long as it looked as if a coalition of democrats and radicals could effect the defeat of the republican party, Mr. Davis and Brother Chas, were willing to lend themselves to the alliance. Their connivance was just as censurable as was that of the radical group in the senate with the gang which included Roxie Stinson, Gaston Means, George Remus, and Al Jennings, when they attempted to be contract for the improvement of St. Andrew's and St. Gertrude's Place to B. R. Ford, contractor. Map Tract No. 689 was ordered accepted by the board. The assessment against S. T. MacLean and Francis M. Sutton was ordered cancelled. Griffith Company, contractors, were granted an extension of sixty days time in which to complete the contract for the improvement of Cedar street. Resolution was adopted in the matter of Road District No. 39, correcting resolution which was adopted on November 12, 1924. Specifications and plans for the grading of Brookhurst avenue from Lincoln avenue South for three quarters of a mile were presented and filed. Bids will be received up to 11:00 a.m. December 16th, 1924. Publication in the Anaheim Gazette. Permission is hereby granted to the Associated Oil Company to construct, erect and maintain four jack-line cable crossings over and across Olinda boulevard in the Third Road District. Deed from the Orange County Trust & Savings Bank to the County of Orange was accepted and placed of record. A perpetual license and right of way upon which to construct, maintain, repair, reconstruct and use a main water pipe line, in, along, over and upon that certain county road, located on the northerly shore line of Newport Bay, was granted to the city of Newport Beach. Hearing of the petition of Springdale Land Company was continued to December 2, 1924 at 11:00 a.m. Resolution was adopted in the matter of Road Improvement District No. 70. Determination of the Board of Supervisors to proceed with hearing. In pursuance of a reservation Board of Supervisors of Orange, California, adopting 25, 1924, directing this no IS HEREBY GIVEN that Board will receive at its Court House at Santa Ana before the hour of 11 o'clock December 16, 1924, sealed posals for the grading of Brookhurst Avenue at Avenue three quarters (south). When the diagnostic chest clinics were held in Orange county in the spring, not only were a great many adults found suffering with pulmonary tuberculosis, but a very large group of children were found suffering with such acute malnutrition that it is to be doubted if even in Russia in the beginning of the war or any place in Europe could be found children so far below their normal weight. Many of these children had curvature of the spine and were in such condition that it will take years of the tax payers' money to restore them to health and the loss as far as their education is concerned in many instances can be counted almost a total loss, for children as under-nourished as this group are do not have the brain power to do the work given them in school. This is a group of children who came into the clinic for examination and treatment. The sale of Christmas seals in Orange county is making the work of the County Tuberculosis association one of the outstanding pieces of health work in Southern California. Not only does the association hope to prevent a good deal of suffering but their broader program carries with it a program of prevention and it is for that reason that the Christmas seal sale in this county is being carried on in the intensive way that it is with the hope that added funds may be secured to help the children. EASY DIVORCE The ease with which one may get married or divorced in soviet Russia has been commented upon frequently in the past, but recently the worthy commissars, ever mindful of human needs, have made many improvements in the existing system. As a result the new domestic laws that have just gone into effect Yucatan would have reason to turn green with envy at the celerity with which a bill of divorcement may be obtained. Those smitten by Cupid's sharp arrows need only to go to the license clerk's office and make a proper declaration of their intent to travel hereafter in double harness. One correspondent, writing of his experience in this matter, remarks that the young lady in charge of this important bureau did not even stop smoking her upon work to be done under contract which may be entered into between him and the said County for the construction of said road. Copies will be furnished intending bidders upon application to the County Superintendent of Highways of said County for which a deposit of three dollars ($3.00) will be required, same to be returned on the filing of bid, and the return of plans and specifications. The Board of Supervisors reserve the right to reject any and all bids. By order of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange, State of California. J. M. BACKS, County Clerk. 11-27-13. Anaheim Eucalyptus Water Co. M. E. BEEBE, Secretary. 3T-8-21-3t CERTIFICATE OF TRANSACTING BUSINESS UNDER A FICTITIOUS NAME. We, the undersigned hereby certify that we are co-partners transacting a general garage business, including storing, cleaning, repairing, buying and selling automobiles and accessories thereto, under the firm name and style of West Bros., that the principal place of said business of said co-partnership is 112 West Chestnut street, Anaheim, California; that the names of all members of said co-partnership and their respective residences are as follows: C. H. West, Residing at 222 E. Alberta, Anaheim, California. F. G. West, residing at 500 E. Sycamore, Anaheim, California. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we have hereunto set our hands this 22nd day of October, 1924. C. H. WEST, F. G. WEST, STATE OF CALIFORNIA COUNTY OF ORANGE On this 22nd day of October, 1924, before me, A. E. Koepsel, a notary public, duly commissioned and sworn and residing in the County of Orange, personally appeared C. H. West and F. G. West, known to me to be the co-partners who executed the within instrument, and they acknowledged time that they executed the same. Those smitten by Cupid’s sharp arrows need only to go to the celerity with which a bill of divorce may be obtained. Writing of his experience in this matter, remarks that the young lady in charge of this important bureau did not even stop smoking her cigarette while getting him safely married off. He filled out a slip with his name and address and the number of times he had previously been married and if his bride wished to take his name or be a Lucy Stoner. After doing this, and parting with one ruble, the happy couple tripped out as man and wife. But suppose they had indulged in an acrimonious argument on the way home regarding the all-important matter as to where they should go on their honeymoon, as brides and grooms usually do? Need they await the passage of time before filing a divorce suit? Indeed no; a return trip to the self-same office, perchance before the damsel in charge has finished her cigarette, and they are given a statement to fill out that they find each other incompatible. With the payment of 3 rubles two warring souls are freed. The sagacious soviets put a higher price on divorce than on marriage, evidently figuring that it was worth more to a person to get freed of his matrimonial bonds than it was to get them on. A real nimble and spry young man, with the requisite five rubles at his command, can get divorced once and married twice during the same day. Communist officials predict a heavy influx of tourists from foreign parts to take advantage of these regulations when passports are easier for the foreigner to obtain.
