OPPOSE POWER PLANT
Editor Gazette: The Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce publishes an excellent magazine called Southern California Business. In the September issue is a half page advertisement signed by George W. Reid, secretary of our own Chamber of Commerce, which carries the headline: "Anaheim Wants Your Factory."
As I read this I began to speculate about what Anaheim is doing and also what it is not doing to care for the industries which we hope will respond to this invitation.
In this advertisement among the advantages claimed for our city, I read, "Cheap Electricity" our rates for electricity are reasonable but they are considerably higher than rates charged by the Edison Company and enjoyed by our neighboring communities who are also anxious to have new industries.
Worthwhile industries such as we hope will come to Anaheim use a great deal of electricity, so much that the difference between Edison rates and our own might turn the balance in favor of some other location.
I am opposed to the proposition of installing a municipal plant in Anaheim because I am convinced that it will increase rather than lower our electric rates. With a private plant it is necessary to provide capacity for the peak load, which means that a large proportion of this capacity is idle most of the day. To provide against emergencies it is also necessary to arrange some other source of supply or to install duplicate equipment, either scheme being uneconomical.
In my opinion the best move our city could make at this tie would be buy their energy at wholesale from the Southern California Edison Company as it does at present rather than invest more money in an adventure which would undoubtedly increase the generating cost above what we are now paying. The money thus saved could very nicely be used in providing more streets, more sewers, more police and fire protection and more schools, particularly schools. It is very foolish to deny ourselves schools and invest our money in an uneconomical and undesirable steam plant.

ANONYMOUS LETTER
SENT SUPERVISORS
“What’s this?” chorused members of the board of supervisors one day the past week. The members referred to an anonymous typewritten communication, received through the mail in an envelope bearing an Anaheim post mark and addressed to the chairman of the board.
“What’s this? A threat? A jest? Is somebody kidding us, or kidding the K. K. K., the letter was threatening in tone, yet disclaimed being a threat Stating at the beginning that is was “from the committee,” the letter subsequently indicated that the committee consisting of one person somewhat unfamiliar either with the English language or a typewriter, or feigning to be so.
“There is no man, rich enough, regardless of his sex, to become a member of the Clan, if there is the slightest evidence that he is not 100 per cent American,” declared the letter.
“You’d better be a MAN,” the writer advised later, but did not add; “regardless of sex.”
Claiming the committee to be “just pure bread Americans” and the best type of Americans,” the letter stated that the committee did not believe in threats, murder or tar buckets, and promises not to harm the chairman or “his gang.”
“This is pretty good, anyway, whether it is a joke or a threat,” chuckled Chairman T. B. Talbert. “It ought to be published.
A “fac simile” of the letter follows.

Louis P. Arton, erstwhile secretary of the Ku Klux Klan, recently resigned his job it is reported and has left Anaheim in search of greener pastures. In order to provide himself with a little cash to assist him on his journey it is stated that he sold the Ku Klux membership list to enemies of that order. Parties who have seen the list declare there are less than three hundred names on it. What disposition will be made of the list is not yet known. People who have the welfare of the city at heart and desire to again see a united people working harmoniously together for progress are hoping that the hooded order will dissolve and there will be no necessity for making the membership roll public property.

tion as he took a seat at one of the picnic tables at the Orange County Park, during the western states conference here.
There were thirty cousins and other relatives of Bradfute seated at the table.
"I have often wondered why so many of my kin folk have come to California and then never come back, but after riding around in Orange county for a while, I can easily see for myself the reason and I can't say that I blame them in the least."
That Bradfute was extremely interested in the nation's "richest county" was evidenced by the fact that he was late at the conference Saturday morning, while riding over the county, "taking in" some of the beautiful walnut a d orange groves near Orange. He expressed himself as being well pleased with the county.
"And I have a lot of other relatives back east that are also talking about coming to California," he said.
Fullerton's new glass factory began operations Monday with a force of seventy-five men. Sheet glass of the plain and plate kind and of the reinforced variety will be turned out by the plant, which, with site and equipment, represents an investment of more than five hundred thousand dollars. The sheds and buildings cover an area of nine acres. Four acres more of land has been bought for expansion purposes and it is understood intention of the company to add other units as soon as the main plant is operating. The working force is to be gradually increased to 175 men, it is intimated.
The factory has its own trackage, having connections with both the station of medical students, said to have been conducting experiments in dissection on a Yorba Linda ranch, with the possibility, it was admitted, that the probe might eventually involve college authorities.
The identity of all the medical students believed involved and the college or university from which the human body had been taken to the ranch had not been learned. Mrs. Minnie Shay, 219 West Commonwealth avenue, Fullerton, who owns the ranch where the authorities were told the dissection experiments were conducted, and her son, Willis D. Shay, said to be a medical student, were slated for investigation by the Sheriff's office, it was stated.
According to Chief Deputy District Attorney C. N. Mozley, unauthorized removal of a body for such purposes constitutes a felony offense. The investigation will be pursued even to the medical laboratories of whatever institution the body may have come from. Mozley said. It is possible, however, he pointed out, that the reported action of the students may have been legally authorized.
Deputy Sheriff Martin of Yorba Linda made the gruesome find of bones Friday. Fragments of the skeleton, parts of which were missing, were piled near an irrigation ditch a few feet from a roadway just north of Newell avenue, about two miles west of Yorba Linda.
Undersheriff Edward French and Deputy Dan Adams, responded to Martin's summons and Coroner C.. D. Brown was later notified Their investigation led them, they said, to the Sluyr ranch, which was at the moment deserted, though they understood, they said, from neighbors, that the family present living on the ranch.
