GAS APPLIANCE WEEK IN CALI. APRIL 7 TO 12 Gas Appliance Week will soon be with us and from April 7 to 12 inclusive gas appliance dealers not only in this city but in all parts of California will observe the state wide movement. The idea comes from the Gas Appliance Society of California which represents all of the gas appliance manufacturers, water heaters, ranges, gas heaters and other gas burning equipment, as well as gas companies, and many of the larger dealers. The society has two headquarters, one at Los Angeles and the other in San Francisco. The plan of the Gas Appliance Society is to work with all appliance dealers in the State, making a concerted effort in all parts of the state from San Diego north to the Oregon line, the sole object being to push gas appliance and gas burning equipment. Several thousand dealers and many gas company officers, furniture dealers, hardware stores and plumbers are joining in the movement. The slogan is: "Use Gas Appliances for Greater Comfort in the Home." BOY SCOUT NEWS Anaheim Troop 1 Receives Radio Set Tom Kuchel, Editor Scoutmaster McKim gave us a great surprise last Tuesday evening when he suddenly showed the troop a wonderful radio set. After the scout's routine we enjoyed a fine program over two or three Los Angeles stations and those who did not stay for it were permitted to play games. Besides this, two boys passed parts of their tenderfoot requirements and ing the case in this county. The first complaint filed charge that B. R. Parrott, Louis Kleindienst and Herman Fisher, Los Angeles stockholders, had failed to account for $250,000 in proceeds from the sale of gas and oil from the corporation's well No. 16. F. C. Krause, president of a Fullerton bank and several others were included as defendants, with no accusations made against them. In the new action now on file, it is allege that Krause has in his possession the sum of $10,000, as funds from the sale of units in the corporation and also from the sale of gas and oil. The new complaint also includes Benjamin S. Brubaker, William H. Bell, J. P. Detwiller, R. C. Steel, all directors of the corporation, and J. L. Richardson, of Riverside county, as defendants. It charges that the directors and Parrott, Kleindienst and Fisher "conspired" to defraud the other stockholders. The plaintiffs ask the court for an accounting, a receivership, a restraining order to prevent the defendants from molesting the corporation's property, and for an order of sale of the property. Besides this, two boys passed parts of their tenderfoot requirements and one, an out-of-town boy received his badge in the presence of Brother McKim and part of the troop. Two visitors came over from Troop 3 and soon we shall probably return the compliment. The city of Anaheim will open its plunge in a few weeks for one day, a Saturday, and scouts regardless of rank, town, etc., may enter free of charge and be permitted to have locker and towel service. Then soon Anaheim will have a court of honor, that is, a court where badges are received from second class up the line. Speaking of the plunge, we think it will be a huge success. CHURCHMEN DISAGREE ON MOTION PICTURES Speakers Condemn Cinema in Religious Work. The use of motion pictures in drawing out lagging church members to the house of worship was defended and condemned by delegates attending the annual conference of the Orange county Council of Religious Education, which held three-day session at the Fullerton Baptist church, and as a result the clerical and lay delegates were thrown more or less into a turmoil over the propriety of using what one Bible class teacher termed "cinematic flypaper." Not only did the motion picture, as a vehicle of attraction, come in for a sound "lacing" by Rev. Chester R. Montague, pastor of the Fullerton church, but he extended his cudgels to cover the back of Mary Pickford and ended with the declaration, "Thank God we don't have to use the movies in our church now." His church formerly use the movies, he said. The affirmative side of the moving picture controversy was taken up by C. W. Cook, teacher of a Bible class at the South Main street Methodist church, Los Angeles, who told the delegates that his church had used the "flickles" advantageously to increase attendance at the mid-week and Sunday night services and that one of the strongest sermons he had heard his "Thank God we don't have to use the movies in our church now." His church formerly use the movies, he said. The affirmative side of the moving picture controversy was taken up by C. W. Cook, teacher of a Bible class at the South Main street Methodist church, Los Angeles, who told the delegates that his church had used the "flickles" advantageously to increase attendance at the mid-week and Sunday night services and that one of the strongest sermons he had heard his pastor deliver was on the lesson taught by Miss Pickford's picture "Daddy Long Legs." Cook's remarks, made in the course of an open forum, prompted J. O. Doo-little, adult division superintendent of the Southern California Religious Council of Religious Education, to declare that he was in favor of some means of increasing attendance at the church services but did not especially favor the use of moving pictures. FILE NEW COMPLAINT AGAINST OIL MEN Withdrawing the initial complaint and substituting a new action, A. J. Charle and other stockholders of the Pacific corporation at Signal hill, who accuse certain follow stockholders of misappropriating $250,000 in company funds, maneuvered to block transfer of the case to Los Angeles county courts. Following a motion by the accused defendants, residents of Los Angeles for a change of venue to that county, the original complaint was dropped and a new one filed in the superior court here, the papers containing more specific charges against Orange county defendants. Thus it was understood, the plaintiffs expected to establish firmer grounds for prosecut- PROPOSAL TO ANNEX NORTHERN DISTRICT May Take Industrial Site into the City Extension of the city limits of Anaheim through the annexation of an additional seventy-eight acres of land, thus giving to a great outlying district city advantages in the outfall sewer, was indorsed by the board of directors of the Anaheim Industrial Land Company and will be brought before the City Council at the next meeting for action. The proposed annexation territory includes the land o fthe Anaheim Industrial Sites, the holdings of the Crystal Chemical Company and the Holly Sugar Company. It is understood that the owners o fthe land and the officials of the controlling companies are favorable to the annexation program and will urge upon the City Council that the matter be brought to a vote of the people of the affected district. It is pointed out by the board of directors of the land company that under existing conditions any possible industries that might come to Anaheim would be barred from the use of the outfall sewer under the agreement between the cities on the sewer line, and that the only solution to the problem would be annexation of the territory so as to bring it within the city limits of Anaheim. Simmered down, success is the absence of worry, not the attainment of ambition. KEEPING TO THE POINT Porter—This train goes to Buffalo and points east. Old Lady—Well, I want a train that gets to Syracuse and I don't care which way it points. A lot of men who are not athletes are trying to lift heavy mortgages from expensive cars.
