The brother of Dr. McCoy, f Wastminster, and his family arrived by the steamer Mohongo. Several other families from the east came with them and intend locating permanently at Westminster. Amongst the deeds filed at the county clerk's office, we notice one from H. Bremermann to B. Cohen for 10 acres of land. Consideration $376. We note in the passenger list of the steamer Orlzaba, due today the names of Mrs. Olden and daughter Kate. Gusave Davis and wife and A. W. Steinhart. There was quite a severe frost on Thursday morning. Pullen want his walking cane. The town Verein ball promises to be a success. Services will be held in the Catholic church an Christmas day. The lady who lost a gold breast pin can find it at Clarke and Austin's booktain proposals to furnish music for Christmas and New Years balls. Judge La Rue has returned from the mines in the Arlington district. He reports two feet of snow in that region. Fischer offers for sale his property, adjoining Kroeger's vineyard. It has been divided into two and one half acre tracts, and will be sold on the homestead plan. Payments will be made in monthly installments. The committee of arrangements for the Christmas tree festival are requested to meet at Clark and Austin's reading room this evening at 7:30 P.M. 25 Years Ago this Week From Gazette, December 22, 1898. W. J. Smith, Jr. and Miss Lenore Speidel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Speidel of Buena Park, were married yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Congregational Church of that place, Rev. Morgan officiating. The young couple are well known in this community and their many friends wish them a long and happy marriage life. Young Calisher who was fined $40 for an assault on Monday, was released and forgiven upon the payment of the costs of the suit. Sin Se Wan has had a little unpleasantness with a "Melican" man, all about a shirt. The affair awaits the arrival of a chinese interpreter from Los Angeles. In our report last week of the election of the Board of Trustees of the Anaheim Lighter Company we included John Westphal among the gentlemen elected. D. Strodthoff was the one upon whom the honor fell. We are requested to announce to all concerned that the installation of the officers elect of Anaheim Lodge, No. 207, F. and A. M., will take place on Saturday, December 27th at two o'clock P. M. The regular meeting will be held on the evening of the same day. The Richland Nursery, an advertisement of which appears in another column, has a magnificent assortment of trees. We are glad to learn that an energetic canvass of the county, by Mr. Casey has resulted in a large accumulation of orders. Parties at a distance desiring trees from this nursery will address their orders to Orange Postoffice. From Gazette, December 22, 1898. W. J. He informs us he sold Fred Crist a solid fawn colored Jersey cow, of the black tongue and switch species, Mr. Cole raises the best Jersey stock hereabouts and Mr. Crist is to be congratulated upon his acquisition of one of the best cows ever raised at Hard-scrabble. Allen Melrose contemplates leaving shortly for Columbia, Tenn. where he expects to get a position with the Louisville and Nashville railroad. Fay McKinley the little daughter of G. G. McKinley, of this city, had the misfortune to fall while playing with a number of little girls at Mr. Cohen's residence on Saturday afternoon, and dislocated her right shoulder blade. The little girls had been in the habit of climbing into the tree while at play, and in some manner in falling she struck upon a box and in turning her arm under herself to break the force of the fall, sustained the dislocation as stated. Physicians were called and the little lady's injuries were attended to. She is getting along as well as the circumstances will permit. A. W. Jones of Los Angeles, special agent of the Mutual Life Insurance Co., was a pleasant caller a this office on Thursday. Born— Borden—In Upper Santa Ana, December 10th, to the wife of Wright Borden, a son. — Catalano—In Anaheim, December 17, to the wife of C. Catalano, a daughter. The examination of the Grammar school of Anaheim of which due notice was given in last weeks issue was commenced on Thursday morning, continuing the whole of that day and Friday. The attendance was quite large and showed that Anaheim is interested in the education of the rising generation. Classes in history of the United States, Physical Geography, Arithmetic, Grammar, Physiology, Natural Philosophy and Algebra were submitted to a severe and critical examination by Mr. Guinn. The pupils showed great proficiency and thoroughness and acquitted themselves and their teacher. The intermediate classes under the tuition of Miss Marquis also showed creditable proficiency and did honor to the exertions of Miss Marquis in their behalf. We understand from Mr. Guinn that at the commencement of the next session High School Classes will be formed, comprising the most advanced pupils of the present Grammar School. Mrs. Federman leaves today for San Francisco to pay a winter's visit to her daughter Sara who is attending school in the city. Bud Paty came up from the Peat Lands on Saturday to get shaved and barbered up. Bud has been driving a butcher wagon about Westminster for a couple of years past and thinks there is no place like the Peat. Frank Steadman has been engaged the past few days laying a stone gutter along the east side of Los Angeles street between Center and the alley near Lutz and Co.'s establishment. Isaac Lyon is reported to have exchanged his highly improved place on Orangethorpe Avenue for hotel property in Los Angeles, and will probably remove to that city in a few days. A marriage license was issued by clerk Brock on Friday last to Camille Allee, aged 23 a resident of Anaheim and Mary Poyet aged 17, a resident of Fullerton. Mr. and Mrs. John Vote of Chicago old time friends of H. A. Stough and family arrived here on Saturday and may decide to locate permanently. "There will be little or no rain this year," he says, meaning 1898, "but this is a war year, and we cannot expect everything in one year. But we shall have plenty of rain in January and February and shall have a good year." J. B. Neff is making preparations to install a new boiler and engine of 50 horse power for water-lifting purposes at his ranch south of town. The water in his well is now down 29 feet. The new engine will be able to raise it from a depth of 50 feet. The cost of the machinery will be about $1200. Mr. Sim Holstein, a wealthy cattle owner of Deming, N. M., was in town on Sunday the guest of Dr. Bailey's family. Mr. Holstein is enjoying his yearly vacation and is en route to the Sandwich islands. He will spend some time at Honolulu and may decide to visit Uncle Sam's new possessions in the Philippines. Mike Reagan was married in Los Angeles on Thursday to Mrs. Berry of Los Alamitos. The first twelve months* of the much abused Fordney-McCumber tariff law produced $564,541,000 in revenue, or about $200,000,000 more than the Democratic "revenue" tariff of 19e3. and they are determined, established and described as follows: Located in the County of Orange, State of California, Beginning at the point of intersection of the center lines of 5th Street and Grand Avenue as shown on the Map of the Town of Buena Park, recorded in Book 18, pages 50, 51, and 52. That the name of the proposed sanitary district shall be "Buena Park Sanitary District." That an election be and is hereby called and ordered held in the district, as the exterior boundaries thereof are hereinbefore determined and established to determine whether a sanitary district be organized or not. At such election persons to fill the offices provided for by the hereinbefore mentioned Act, viz: a sanitary assessor, and five members of the Sanitary Board, shall be voted for. The election shall be held on the 8th day of January 1924, which day is hereby fixed as the day of the election. At the election there shall be one polling place and the Community Hall on Tenth Street, Buena Park, California, within the proposed district, is hereby selected, designated and established as the polling place for the holding of such election.
