Eight candidates were initiated into the Royal Neighbors lodge at the meeting Monday afternoon.
Mrs. O. W. Schumacher, of Placentia, one of the prominent ladies of the northern end of the county, died Monday night.
C. A. Meyers and family left the first of the week on a trip to Canada, where Mr. Meyers has business interests.
In the last distribution of state school funds Anaheim high school gets $10,185.92, the total for the eight high schools in the county being $73,085.28. Anaheim's share of the elementary school fund is $5675.
Frank V. Hoffman, of Santa Ana, driving a Ford and Leopold Gomez, of this city, also driving a Ford, collided on North Los Angeles street at Adele Friday. Neither car was seriously damaged, and neither driver hurt.
The automatic signal, for the purpose of regulating traffic at the Los Angeles and Center street intersections, will soon be in operation, it is stated. It will be given a six months' trial.

Joe Seigel was granted a permit to build a frame residence on East Mills drive. Cost $5750.
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Moore former residents of Anaheim, now of Inglewood, visited in town Sunday, renewing old acquaintances.
The Anaheim Merchants’ baseball team went down to Irvine Sunday and defeated the champions of the Harbor league by a score of 9 to 3.
O. B. Baxter last week sold his two-acre orange grove in the south part of town for $17,000. This is $8,500 per acre, and is considered a record price for orange property.
Harry Yautz is preparing to erect a business block at Five Points. It will join the Molt flat iron building on the west, with frontage both on Center street and Lincoln avenue. It will have a 37 foot frontage.

Material is being hauled to the ground for the erection of the Shaw business building at the corner of Helena and Center streets, where the Standard Oil company’s station stood until a couple of months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Everhardy, their daughter, Miss Alice Frances Everhardy, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Cleveland, and Mrs. John J. Everhardy were guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Schneider. A very happy family reunion was enjoyed, and the visitors were regaled with a splendid dinner.
Billy Knott, who has so successfully managed the Anaheim baseball team during the past two or three seasons, has relinquished the management to Peter Hax, of Fullerton. Billy states that the work of handling the team interfered with his business pursuits, therefore he let go at a sacrifice, Pete slipping him only $10,000 in the deal.
John S. Baker, millionaire oil man of Santa Fe Springs, contemplates moving to Anaheim. It is reported Mr. Baker’s royalty from the oil wells on his 240-acre ranch is now said to be $2000 per day, and many more wells are being drilled. Mr. Baker is well known to many Anaheim people, who would extend a hearty welcome to him and his family. Mrs. Lotus Louden is his daughter.

Mr. and Mrs. James Halpin drove down from Los Angeles on Sunday and spent the afternoon with friends here. Mr. Halpin is chef at one of the leading city department stores, and his fame extends far and wide as probably the most efficient caterer in Los Angeles. Mrs. Halpin was formerly Miss Fanny Rowe, of this city. The afternoon was very pleasantly spent, and besides their old friends many new ones were made during their short stay.
Officers of the third regiment, Uniform Rank, Knights of Pythias, met Sunday in this city, which has been the headquarters of the regiment during the past four years, while Col. B. T. Beale was in command. The San Diego, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, Anaheim, Long Beach, Redondo, Tustin and San Pedro companies were represented at the meeting by their officers. Captain Jack Williams, of Long Beach, was elected colonel of the regiment. Col. Beale was presented with a beautiful past colonel’s jewel.
The people of Big Bear Lake and others are looking forward to a sunrise Easter service at Mt. Mitchell, which is 200 feet above the lake, making an elevation of 7000 feet. The Easter service was inaugurated last year by the Big Bear Lake Parent-Teachers’ association of which Mrs. Arthur Small, formerly of Santa Ana, has been president for two years. At a party given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Sparks Thursday night announcement was made of the coming marriage of Miss Philura Sparks to Jack Clemons, of Los Angeles. The wedding will take place in June.

Eldon Stark, son of Mayor William Stark, was authorized to practice law by the district court of appeals Tuesday. He is a graduate of the law school of the University of Southern California, and recently passed a successful examination. His admission to the bar gives him the right to hang out his shingle and aspire to any public office that he covets. He will probably be addressed as Judge Stark some day.
Five automobile loads of members of the Womans' Auxiliary of Anaheim post, American Legion, went down to Camp Kearny Sunday, accompanied by a truck load of gifts for the boys in the hospital there. They were warmly welcomed by the boys, and an earnest invitation extended to them to come again. Sixty per cent of the patients at the hospital are well-fronted, among them being nine overseas nurses.

Placentia is to have her Easter sunrise service this year, too. As in former years, it will be held on Tuffree hill, one and one-half miles north of Placentia. Rev. W.H. Manishart, of Los Angeles, is to preach the Easter sermon. Rev. Frank Dowling will read Van Dyke's "God of the Open Air." Warren Bradford, cornetist, will play "The Holy City," and the Misses Ruth Howerton and Edward Backs will render vocal solos. Everyone will be welcome to this service.
The Anaheim baseball team gave a farewell dinner in honor of Billy Knott, manager of the team, who has resigned, and Vic Ruedy, who is leaving for Danville, Illinois, to play professional ball. These present were Mr. and Mrs. Buster Callan, Mr. and Mrs. Callan, Mr. and Mrs. Marlon Pickle, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ramage, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cordes, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Benson, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Downs, Mr. and Mrs. O.B. With the idea of providing several "white ways" in Anaheim, committees from the chamber of commerce are expected to interview property owners along a half dozen of the principal thoroughfares in regard to the type of ornamental light posts desired for the various streets. Two types of ornamental poles have been approved for use in the city. One provides for two lights on each pole, while the other carries a single globe. Numerous petitions have been received by the city council and the property owners have agreed to pay for the improvement.
The residence on Citron street, which has for many years been the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Markle, is no more. Last week the ruthless hand of the wrecker tore it down, to make way for newer buildings. Mr. and Mrs. Markle are living in their cottage at the corner of Citron and Chestnut, adjoining the lot on which the larger house stood. Wilson & Bever recently purchased a tract from Mr. Markle on which they are building a bungalowurt, with fourteen houses. Their piece of ground is L-shaped, fronting both on Citron and Chestnut street, Mr. Markle's cottage residence, with its grounds, cutting out the corner.

For the first time since he entered congress two years ago, Congressman Phil D. Swing sees time ahead when he may practice his profession, law.

Wahlberg, Orange county farm advisor, announced. Dr. L. B. Bachelor, of the Riverside experiment station, and W. B. Hooper, agricultural extension service specialist, will join Wahlberg, he said, in preparing the experimental plats. "By this system of in-arching," Wahlberg explained, "the tree gains a new root system to replace that destroyed by disease or gophers. We have conducted many experiments of this character with citrus trees, but this will be the first walnut experiment in this county under my direction."
