OIL FIELD NOTES Oil field operations reported week ending November 18, showed 47 new wells started, compared with 28 previous week. Total new wells this year is 1277, as compared with 1166 the same date last year. Tests for water shut-off 30, compared with 31 previous week. Yearly total to date 1523; total to same date last year 1294. Deepening or redrilling jobs 9, compared with 17 preceding week. Total to date this year 695; total to same date last year 603. Abandonments 4, compared with 2 preceding week. Total to date this year 238; total to same date last year 189. Santa Fe Springs has established itself in less than a year as the greatest high gravity producing oil field in the west. Six thousand barrels producing 35 gravity oil is getting to be a regular thing for the operator in the new wonder oil fields of southern California. There are three wells at Santa Fe Springs that are making better than 6000 barrels daily. The General Petroleum company claims the honor of having the biggest producer at the Springs. Completing Santa Fe No. 7 at 440 feet, a well making 6910 barrels daily of 3f gravity oil, was brought in. The Machris Brothers' Babonets well is holding second place at 6400 barrels, and the Standard Oil company's South Whittier Community is holding third place safely with an output of 6000 barrels daily. C. C. Julian ran true to form and gave his backers what they were looking for, a nice well at No. 2. Julian mine actual conditions. Much development hinges on the outcome of No. 19. Pioneering the way to deep production at Huntington Beach, the Petroleum Midway company has increased its production to big figures and is rivaling the Standard Oil company for first place. Columbia I-1, the well that was the eye opener of the "deep stuff," is making 3440 barrels daily at 4:56 feet, and is now the greatest producer at Huntington Beach. Towers No. 2, another Petroleum Midway well, is making 160 barrels per day at 4480 feet. Vollmer-Meyer No. 3, the most recent completion, is producing 2225 barrels at 4500 feet. The Standard Oil company completed a trio of deep wells that added 2,500 brarels of new production to the Huntington Beach field. On the Huntington Beach lease No. 9, at 4430 feet, a 600 barrel producer was made. No. 15, on the same property, completed at 2470 feet, is making 1500 barrels a day. On the E-5 lease No. 5, completed in the upper zone, is dong 400 barrels. The Union Oil company is getting a share of the deep production on the Brooks property. Brooks No. 2, completed at 4545 feet, started off making 100 barrels on hour, the oil is 28.gravity. Copeland No. 7, at 4400 feet, will probably be the Union Oil company's next big well. The Bandini district will soon be an oil field if the oil is there, and there is reason to believe it is there, from the showings that the Wishfre Oil company's Bandini well has shown. In addition to the government work started by the Fuller Oil company few months ago, a second big company has gone into the field. The Oak mine actual conditions. Much development hinges on the outcome of No. 19. C. Julian ran true to form and gave his backers what they were looking for, a nice well at No. 2. Julian No. 2, completed at 3920 feet, and drilled about 60 feet into the oil sand is producing 2300 barrels daily. No. 1, only a few feet in the sand and flowing through 8-14 inch casing, is a producing marvel. This well has averaged better than 1400 barrels per day that it has been on production. Julian's fourth well is nearing 3900 feet and will be on production before many more days. The Peterson Oil syndicate sprung a real surprise by bringing in a big well on the town lot, the closely drilled section of the field. Peterson syndicate No. 1, was completed by the Orange County Drilling company at 3930 feet, and started off at 3500 barrels daily, and was pinched back to 2500 barrels. The Shell Oil company's redrilled and deepened well, G. H. N. No. 4, has paid for the extra work done on it by coming back a 2800 barrel producer. Drilling has been started by the Shell Oil company on the Slayden and the B. G. T. Oil company's Marble well is now held up with a bad fishing job. The Standard Oil company increased the production of the South Whittier Community lease, with a 4760 barrel well at No. 1. This well is a redrill and was deepened to 4608 feet. To get better than a barrel of oil every day for every foot of hole drilled is not a bad record for a well. With the Union Oil company's test well, Flood No. 1, passing the 500 foot mark, the outlook for the northwest side of the field is not very encouraging. The Union Oil company is taking an Elliott core drill sample at 5012 feet, and will not take any chances of passing up any showings. The Elliott core drill is contributing tremendously to oil development today, in that it has made possible the securing of actual samples and gives the operator an X-ray of his well at any time. Many a well would The Bandini district will soon be an oil field if the oil is there, and there is reason to believe it is there, from the showings that the Wishfre Oil company's Bandini well has shown. In addition to the government work started by the Fuller Oil company few months ago, a second big company has gone into the field. The Oakridge Oil company has leased the Elliott Bandini property and has a rig under construction. Three big companies are now in the field and all the available holdings have been leased. In less than two years the Shell Oil company has put on production 39 wells and developed a daily production of 28,000 barrels at Long Beach. The latest big well to swell the Shell Oil company's production is Cresson No. 2, a copletion at 3798 feet and a 2000 barrel well. Alamitos No. 1, the discovery welof Slignall Hill, is about ready to return to production, having been deepened and carried into the lower sand. Alamitos No. 3 is a product of the second sand, producing some 1750 barrels daily. The Shell Oil company is maintaining a heavy development schedule and during the past week has started wells on the Binkley, Connet, Kent, Goddard, Nesa and Wells properties. The Bush-Vorhis Oil company, formerly the Blake & Bush Oil company, continues to bring in nice wells and build up a substantial production. The Bush corporation just completed Hillseth No. 1 at 3750 feet, and brought in a 2350 barrel well. The Bush Oil company has wells drilling on the Butler, Cadwell and Johnson properties. Joseph Dabney will abandon the famous No. 4 Cement well and drill a new hole. No. 4 became noted for the fight against water and had more cement put into it than any other well on Signal Hill. At 2648 feet effort after effort has repeatedly failed to shut off the water. The hole will be plugged and another drilled nearby. Dabney is leading the field for independent operations, having six new rigs up and more building. The east slope of Signal Hill got a nice boost, a few days ago when the General Petroleum company found an well, Flood No. Many a well that would have been made a producer has been abandoned on account of not knowing the exact conditions. The famous Hamilton No. 4 is an example of what the core barrel will do. Huntington Beach production continues to go up and down. Even at the time this field was in the height of its glory no one dreamed of the production going up to 60,000 barrels per day. This figure is now a fact. The development of this field's deep production is doing wonders and it is believed that before many months the Huntington Beach field will forge ahead of Long Beach. Where two and three hundred barrels used to be brought in, two and three thousand barrel producers are now being completed. The Amalgamated, Petroleum Midway, Standard and Union companies are doing the big things in the way of deep production for the Huntington Beach territory. The field wonder is the Amalgamated, Oil company's Miley-Keck No. 11. This well came in two months ago at 1700 barrels, and has increased to 2700 barrels a day. A net increase of a thousand barrels steady production is seldom found. The Amalgamated Oil company has Miley-Keck No. 19 down to 4750 feet and is taking core samples to deter- The east slope of Signal Hill got a nice boost a few days ago when the General Petroleum company found an excellent showing of oil in the Bixby well at 4336 feet. A string of pipe will be set and the showing trick out. The Bixby well has been standing for some time awaiting field developments. Clock No. 1, one of the General Petroleum's big Signal Hill producers, is off. The water string went bad and it became necessary to go in and re-cement. Signal Hill No. 1, at one time one of the biggest wells in the field, has declined on production to less than 500 barrels. The General Petroleum company is making arrangements to redrill and deepen this well. Long Beach's third sand discovery well is making a splendid showing. Completed three weeks ago at 3557 feet, the well started off at 200 barrels and has since increased its production to 2670 barrels daily. It seems that E. Call Brown, head of the Petroleum Midway company's geological department made the contention several months ago that the Long Beach field would develop a third sand that would yield a new order of producers. The honor of finding the sand fell to the Henderson Petroleum company, drilling a well on the Delendricle Oil company's Garrett property. The woman who is proud of her "allments" seldom has anything else to be proud of. ANAHEIM GAZETTE THE SHIPS OF DAWN There, where a sea of azure dips, Whose charts have ne'er been drawn. I see a fleet of fair cloud ships, And floating in the dawn. Their sails are rigged against the sky— Bright wafts of rose and gold— Their jasper hulls at anchor lie. With dreams down in each hold. Fair hopes and dreams their cargoes are And at the day's bright dawn They loose their moorings, every spar A-quiver to be gone. And some made trim for every tide. With strong hearts at the helm. The unknown seas shall bravely ride To some fair unknown realm. And some shall drift across the seas Their precious cargoes bear. As blows each storm or vagrant breeze— Aimless and debonair. And somewhere in those mooring clouds Floats my own bark of pearl. The high wind singing in her shrouds With sails for me to furl. God, teach me how to steer her far. Far through the seas of Time—Through storm and sun, beyond the bar, Where lies 'the port sublime!
