OIL FIELD NOTES Huntington Beach did not add anything to the gusher column last week, but did bring in some nice producers. The Argonaut Oil company finished Harvey No. 1 at 3600 feet and got a 300 barrel well. The Globe Petroleum company's No. 1 at 3700 feet started to flow and looks like at least a 500 barrel well. An achievement worthy of notice is the work of the Amalgamated Oil company on the Miley-Keck properties. Six months ago the Amalgamated took this holding over and at that time the production amounted to 500 barrels. The production today is 2600 barrels. Miley-Keck No. 15, the latest Amalgamated completion at 2888 feet, is making 150 barrels. It is believed that the Petroleum Midway has another nice well on tap at Vollmer-Meyer No. 2. Completed at 4114 feet as one of the deepest wells in the Huntington Beach field, the Vollmer-Meyer has all the earmarks of the field's best producer. The Standard Oil company is not to quit the Thompson property. Preparations are being made for the starting of No. 2. Thompson No. 1 continues to produce about 80 barrels of fluid, of which about 60 per cent is oil. At Richfield, the Placentia-Pacific's No. 1 now being drilled by the Amalgamated Oil company is beginning to look a little interesting. At 3980 the tar sap that precedes production has been reached. While the depth is a little beyond the ordinary, things are looking good. The stockholders of warning to all motorists to get their lights correctly adjusted before the law starts to make it unpleasant for all those whose lights blind the traveling public. The state regulations in regard to the headlight adjustment provide for "two lights in front of the vehicle, of such intensity that they will reveal any substantial object for 200 feet ahead of the vehicle from one half hour after sunset to one half hour before sunrise, or when it is dark enough to conceal objects 200 feet ahead of the vehicle." Legal requirements in regard to the adjusting of the lights, points out the auto club legal department, are such that they can only be met by the use of one of the approved dimming devices as passed by the state. But all dimming devices must be properly adjusted, and the adjustment is so technical that it can usually be best understood by a professional engineer or by an authorized adjusting station. Motorists are advised to have their headlights correctly adjusted at once or suffer the consequences at the hands of the law. The village loafer ought to move to the city, where he won't attract any attention. At 3980 the tar sand that precedes production has been reached. While the depth is a little beyond the ordinary, things are looking good. The stockholders of the Placentia-Pacific are fortunate in getting the Amalgamated Oil company to take over and finish the well. The location of the well has attracted favor and its outcome will be watched with more than passing interest. Drilling by the Standard Oil company on the Kellogg lease is still going ahead. Kellogg No. 1 is now down 5665 feet. The gray sand formation continues. Kellogg No. 2 is the deepest test well ever drilled in the Richfield district and will probably be southern California's deepest test well when completed. Speaking of deep wells, the Union's Dickson No. 1, also located in the Richfield district, is believed to be the deepest well to produce oil in quantity in the state. Dickson No. 1 at 4800 feet is pumping about 200 barrels of fluid. Morse No. 3, the greatest redrilling success ever achieved in the Richfield district, is making better than 2800 barrels daily. Morse No. 2 was also something of a success, too. This well was redrilled and changed from a "stripper" to a 2000 barrel well. Santa Fe Springs continues to step lively. More new wells were located in this field during the past week than in any other field in the south. The daily production of the field has gone up to 15,000 barrels with the return of the Amalgamated's Dallugge No. 1, now a steady producer at 2500 barrels. The Puente hills got a real boost when the Jose Oill company's well started producing last week. The well is making considerable oil accompanied with some water and has demonstrated beyond doubt that the new field has possibilities. H. A. Bardeen, who has worked there more than a year, should be given a lot of credit for what he has BUILDING Notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees of the Orange-thorpe School District of Orange County will sell the school building located on grounds of said district to the highest bidder at 2 o'clock p.m., August 4th, 1922. BLOODGOOD, Clerk of District. 7-19-3t NOTICE In the Superior Court of the County of Orange State of California. In the Matter of the Estate of Katie Wohlgemuth, Deceased. Notice for Publication of Time of Proving Will, Etc. Notice is hereby given that Friday, the 21st day of July, 1922, at 10 o'clock a.m., of said day, at the Court Room of this Court, Department No. 2, in the City of Santa Ana, County of Orange, State of California, has been appointed as the time and place for hearing the application of Cornellius Wohlgemuth, praying that a document now on file in this Court, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of the said deceased, be admitted to probate, that Letters Testamentary be issued thereon to said Cornellius Wohlgemuth, at which time and place all persons interested therein may appear and contest the same. Dated July 5, 1922. J. M. BACKS, County Clerk. H. V. WEISEL, Attorney for Petitioner. 7-6-3t The Puente hills got a real boost when the Jose Oil company's well started producing last week. The well is making considerable oil accompanied with some water and has demonstrated beyond doubt that the new field has possibilities. H. A. Bardeen, who has worked there more than a year, should be given a lot of credit for what he has accomplished. It is believed that when the Jose Oil company's well gets under production, it will make a 125 or 150 barrel well. The outlook for Signal Hill becoming one of the biggest oil fields ever developed in the west could not be better. In fact, operators are beginning to wonder where the boundaries of the field will be fixed. There is some feeling, and it is not unfounded, either, that Signal Hill is going to produce too much oil. Every time a well is brought in it starts off all the way from two to three thousand barrels, and these wells are holding up in a ramarkable manner. Signal Hill now has the largest average well production for its age of any field that California has developed. AFTER THE GLARING HEADLIGHTS NOW Glaring headlights which blind auto drivers are going to be taboo on highways of the southern and central parts of the state. Too many accidents are being caused by blinding headlights, says officials of the Automobile Club of Southern California. Recognizing this fact, there are going to be several raids staged against auto owners who do not properly dim their lights. Auto club officials have issued a DON'T put off needed repairs because you fear the cost. Beaver Board is very inexpensive—and easy to use. Nail it over old plaster or directly to studding and beams.
