STORE Archie Emert, a Placentia barber, and Henry Georgeson, an oil worker, were arrested at the Olive bridge Monday by Sheriff Jackson and Deputy Wood, charged with transporting liquor. The men carried a bottle and were seen drinking from it by Wood. Judge French at Fullerton fined them $150 each and gave each a suspended jail sentence of ninety days. Next Tuesday is the Fourth of July. Anaheim will not celebrate, but Anaheimers are all making preparations to go some place where there will be lots of fire crackers, forensic oratory and pink lemonade. Most of them will go to the beach towns, where celebrations are announced, but some will prefer the peace and quiet of the mountain resorts. It was a hard contest. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Adams, Mrs. Annie Adams and Alva Adams returned on Friday from a two weeks' camping trip to Ventura, Santa Barbara and Monterey counties. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carroll and children, Miss Lela Steadman and Miss Ida Bentz are enjoying a camping trip to Yosemite. They are expected to return home Sunday. Adolf Hartmann and Albert Meza came down from Los Angeles Tuesday on a business mission. Mr. Hartmann is owner of the Hartmann block at Center and Olive streeets, and Mr. Meza was formerly proprietor of the Eastside grocery. He is now conducting a tamale factory in Los Angeles. M. Eugene Durfee has prepared plans for a five story office building to be erected by C. C. Chapman at the corner of Willshire and Spadra In-Fullerton. Mr. Chapman has already ordered part of the steel to be used in the structure. It will be the finest business building in Orange county when completed. The Anaheim Elks ball team defeated Riverside on the Corona grounds Sunday, the score being 7 to 4. The previous Sunday the local boys slaughtered Pomona by a 17 to 2 score. Billy Knott's colts are beginning the league season with their usual pep, and expect to land the state championship again. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hale were the guests of honor at a birthday dinner given Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Moore in Fullerton. Clarke, of Fullerton, was transacting business in Anaheim Saturday. Fifty new members were taken into the Concordia club Friday night. The membership of this club has been rapidly increasing of late. The birthdays of these two estimable people are but two days apart and a large birthday cake with candles was one of the features of the delightful dinner. Sheriff C. E. Jackson has so far recovered from his illness that he is able to be on duty again. He was in town Tuesday greeting his friends and attending to official business. Mr. Jackson announces his candidacy for reelection to the office of sheriff and feels confident that the friends who stood by him in the last campaign will again support him. He has made an excellent record as the county's chief peace officer. E. J. Clarke, of Fullerton, was transacting business in Anaheim Saturday. Mrs. Jennie Bircher died at the sanitarium Thursday afternoon following the birth of a son. She was 35 years of age, and the wife of Albert Bircher. The remains were taken to Kanapolis, Kansas, her former home, for burial. Mrs. Susie Degryse died at her home on Kroeger street Thursday evening at the age of 50. Funeral was held at St. Boniface church Saturday, burial being in Holy Cross cemetery. She was the widow of Desire Degryse, who died some months ago while visiting at his old home in Bruges, Belgium. She leaves four daughters and one son. The daughters are Lillian, Evelyn, Amy and Anna, and the son, Earl. Miss Molly Rector, who was formerly a member of the faculty of the local grammar school, has been a guest of her cousin, Mrs. Ella Coons, for the past several days. Miss Recorder has been teaching at Berkeley for a number of years. She departed yesterday for her home in Merced. During her visit here she met many old time friends who were delighted to meet with her again. Frank Baum has begun the erection of a new residence on Broadway. It will be built of stucco, and is expected to be a beautiful home when completed.
