SANTA ANA FIGURING ON SHOESTRING EXTENSION Expects to Extend City Lemits to the Harbor Tentative outline of the shoestring strip to Orange county harbor which the Santa Ana Realty board seeks to have annexed to Santa Ana was presented at the luncheon of the organization at St. Ann's Inn, by Joseph P. Smith, chairman of the annexation committee. The outline suggested is for a strip one half mile on each side of Main street south to the Newport Beach boulevard, with the east line continuing southwesterly to the head of Newport bay, southerly down the center line of the bay to the city limits of Newport Beach, thence west one mile, thence north to the boulevard and east along the south side of the boulevard to a conjunction with the west line of the strip south on Main street to the boulevard. The committee reported that James Irvine, owner of the Irvine ranch, would have to be consulted, as virtually all of the annexed territory would be property belonging to him. Henry P. Barbour, president of the Long Beach Realty board, in an address in which he made reference to Orange county harbor, declared that no project in the city or county can exceed the harbor project in importance as to the future of the city and county. He urged realtors to get back of the harbor and the annexation with all their force and energy. The meeting was scheduled as a joint meeting of the boards of Santa Ana, Orange, Anaheim and Fullerton for the purpose of discussing plans for the picnic of Southern California Realtors at Long Beach, May 20, and the national convention of the Association of Realty Boards to be held at San Francisco, May 30-June 3. It was decided that no attempt should be made to make an exhibit of centipede race, in which numbers of racers straddled two pieces of pipe, by the county garage; a brancho riding event, the saddle being a barrel suspended on ropes, by the tax collector's office; a fake operation, by Dr. H. E. Zaiser and nurses of the county hospital; a tug-of-war for children; a volleyball game, by the court reporters; a cracker-eating contest, conducted by Purchasing Agent F. W. Slabaugh; a journey to see the mound-builders, conducted by Superior Judge Z. B. West; a relay race, engineering department; a kangaroo court, Sheriff C. E. Jackson's office; cake walk, recorder's office; balloon chasing event, library and farm bureau; prize dance, assessor's office. The contestants in the cracker-eating contest were Supervisor S. H. Finley, N. T. Edwards, H. A. Wassum and T. B. Talbert. The winner had to eat eight dry crackers and then whistle loud enough to be heard the length of the pavilion. Talbert won. Judge West gave a sage address on evidences of prehistoric life, and conducted the crowd to a distant hillside to show them some living mound builders, remnants of an ancient race. Reaching the spot, County Clerk Earl Abbey exhibited a bottle of ants. The most astounding make-up among the many that fairly took one's imagination away was that worn by County Tax Collector J. C. Lamb. He was an Ikey jewelry peddler, and his make-up was such that his best friends passed him without knowing him. A basket dinner, with coffee served by Custodian Irwin, of the Park, and beans by Deputy Sheriff Theo. Lacy, and any evening of dancing featured the latter part of the picnic. Officers re-elected to serve the annual picnic organization are: President, Dr. F. W. Slabaugh; vice-president, T. B. Talbert; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. J. B. Joplin. THE ROMANY CUSTOM He revealed to source of assets, odeelines to take particular source is later. An ardent young father indicated that attractive price for "But she's too officers." "I won't Ballard took his Beach Saturday." Radio fans, into the air, freerailings to power ppl., Cunningham, in son distribution list is extremely hazardous says, and may lead and even death, brought too close power wires. The Edison insists all aerials removed fast as they are all radio enthusiasts from a lot of trouble danger by obsham's suggestion. Anaheim Auction Dealers in Used A plente line of all assories, second-hall moderate prices, wiping rags. Pho Angeles St. TRIPLE ALLEY Mileage test made owned and driven of Anaheim, result 71.5 per cent more of the harbor and the annexation with all their force and energy. The meeting was scheduled as a joint meeting of the boards of Santa Ana, Orange, Anaheim and Fullerton for the purpose of discussing plans for the picnic of Southern California Real-tars at Long Beach, May 20, and the national convention of the Association of Realty Boards to be held at San Francisco, May 30-June 3. It was decided that no attempt should be made to make an exhibit of products at the national convention. The Oarnge county booth will be featured with photographs of Orange county and paintings by artists at Laguna Beach. Joe Skidmore, who has a fine collection of paintings by some of the best artists at Laguna, offered to the board the choice of his collection. He said that he frequently had been asked to loan his pictures, but that he had always refused. His interest in the success of the Orange county plans for the convention prompted him to make the proffer, he said. COUNTY OFFICIALS ENJOY AN OUTING Hilarity followed hilarity at the picnic of county officers, county employees and their friends at the county park Saturday afternoon and evening. From the moment when the raucous ballyhoo calls of show people from the office of the county clerk assembled the multitude around a sideshow tent, with queer animals painted on the canvas, to the last dance of the evening's hop, the picnic was a huge success. A dozen county departments put on a stunt. Here are some of them: A basket dinner, with coffee served by Custodian Irwin, of the Park, and beans by Deputy Sheriff Theo. Lacy, and an evening of dancing featured the latter part of the picnic. Officers re-elected to serve the annual picnic organization are: President, Dr. F. W. Slabaugh; vice-president, T. B. Talbert; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. J. B. Joplin. THE ROMANY CUSTOM Because Steve Lewis (sometimes Stanley), gypsy chieftain, was forced to sign a note for $1200 to cover the purchase price of a daughter-in-law, consequent financial straits were believed responsible for his arrest by local officers, who delivered him to the Long Beach police Saturday. The Long Beach authorities stated that Lewis was wanted there in connection with various jewelry thefts. Under Sheriff E. E. French and Deputy Sheriff Roy Ballard, who arrested the gypsy in his camp near the Santa Ana river bridge west of Olive late Saturday, thought they saw the light when Lewis explained his financial situation. The Romany custom of wife buying was apparently at the bottom of the trouble. Lewis' son, Steve, Jr., took a gypsy girl, Rosie Wharton, to wife, while the Lewis family were living with the main body of the gypsy tribe near Long Beach. Rosie was worth just $1200 to her father, it developed, when the two fathers-in-law met to settle the financial side of the transaction. The note was signed. With the debt facing him, it was believed that the elder Lewis found it necessary to take whatever ways and Of all the ways of washing this is the simplest by far 1 Bundle Everything 2 Phone for Our Representative 3 And Your Washing is Done Your clothes will be returned to you spotlessly clean white-flat pieces carefully ironed; wearing apparel ready for the finishing touches at home.
