Mystery surrounded the finding of a box of blood-stained clothing in the bed of the Santa Ana river at the point where West Seventeenth crosses the stream. The clothing was recovered by two boys, whose names the authorities have not yet ascertained. According to the youths, they saw a man drive a Ford car down to the river bed, take a box out of the tonneau and set it afire on the sand. The man then jumped into the car and rode away. The boys extinguished the fire by throwing wet sand on the box and by beating it with brush. Bret Warner of Santa Ana saw the boys trying to extinguish the blaze and made an investigation. He observed that the box had been thoroughly saturated with coal oil and that some of the clothing was also oil soaked. Warner and the boys examined the clothing and found blood spots on can policy because of German prejudice, or whether he be Irish, Italian, Hungarian or Russian, who seeks for similar reasons to decide American questions. There can be no such thing as dual citizenship in America. Under no guise can this country be made the breeding place of intrigue." That is good American doctrine from a fighting leader of fighting Americans. When 25,000 Americans assemble to hear and cheer it we may well feel encouraged. It is so completely the opposite of the intrigue which it opposes that such intrigue is certain to fall. Those who seek comforts or advantages for their former countrymen in various corners of Europe do so by efforts to embroil the United States in European difficulties. That is anti-American. POULTRY SPECIALISTS COMING TO COUNTY. The poultrymen of this county are going to have a splendid opportunity to learn better methods of feeding, housing and general care of flocks this week as R. B. Easson, poultry extension specialist from the University of California will be in the county, as announced by the Farm Bureau office today. Friday evening, April 8, at 7:30, a general poultrymen's meeting will be carried on at the Garden Grove Theater. Mr. Easson has a very important message for the egg producers of that community along the lines of feeding. He will illustrate his lecture with lantern slides of poultry houses, incubators and give a general discussion of types and construction. On Monday evening, April 11, Mr. Easson will meet with all the people of Santa Ana and surrounding districts interested in better poultry methods at the Santa Ana high school, Science Building, Room 52, at 7:30. He will give a similar illustrated talk provide clothing supplies and is held if the full benefits are to be sent. The chapter select, insofar as cilities of Europe to which it would be sent. IN THE SUPERIOR COUNTY OF CAKE NOTICE OF GUARDIANSHIP OF LUHRING, Minors Notice is hereby guidance of an order Court of the County of California, due on the 6th day of above entitled est guardian of the p Wilma Louise Lu sell on or after Bret Warner of Santa Ana saw the boys trying to extinguish the blaze and made an investigation. He observed that the box had been thoroughly saturated with coal oil and that some of the clothing was also oil soaked. Warner and the boys examined the clothing and found blood spots on some of it. Warner became suspicious and notified Sheriff Jarkson's office Deputy Charles Holbrook went to the river bed, collected the clothing and brought it to the sheriff's office. A close examination disclosed a laundry mark on a shirt and towel. Investigation revealed that the mark, "C. H. B.," was stamped on the clothing by the Santa Ana Steam Laundry, and that the clothing was the property of C. H. Bisland. The authorities learned that this man lived for a while at the Clinton apartments and later at the Richelleu Hotel. A medical prescription written by a Santa Ana physician and filled by a local drug store was found in a pocket of an oil soaked pair of trousers. The prescription was dated February 10, 1920. Among the articles of clothing recovered were an overcoat, a shirt, two pairs of trousers, a coat, two suits of underwear and four neckties. One of the ties bears the trademark of a clothing dealer of Spokane, Wash. The authorities are working on the theory that the discarded clothing might reveal an act of foul play. While they have no tangible clue to work on an investigation is being conducted. Another theory is that the clothing was worn by some person who might have suffered or died of some contagious disease. The boys who found the stuff could give but a meager description of the man who left the box in the river bed. No trace of a man by the name of Bisland has been found by the authorities and it is not known whether he still resides in this vicinity or not. THE UNITED STATES IS. There is something which will be refreshing and stimulating to the nation in the news of the American Legion's demonstration in Madison Square Garden in answer to the recent "Rhine horror" meeting staged at the same place. The simple fact that 25,- RED CROSS WORK. Red Cross workers in the Pacific Division, California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah—are being called upon by the division management to mobilize for the National Sewing Bee to furnish garments for the hundreds of thousands of babies and small children in Europe who are clad only in meager rags or newspapers. Announcement has been sent out to Chapters in the division to stimulate the sewing in both adult and junior groups. The school children have been asked to contribute 2,000 garments and 300 layettes for a June shipment. No quota has been announced for the chapter workers but the demand from the whole American Red Cross is a suspended one calling for a concerted effort of all who want to help on this greatest call: The Red Cross has had since the war work production ceased. American Red Cross relief workers, just returned from Europe, bring to America tales of acute suffering among these children, who walk barefoot and almost unclad in the bitter winter climate of Central Europe, thousands of whom, born in wartime, have never known a shoe or decent article of clothing. With materials furnished by the American Red Cross, native women in these destitute countries today are at work in an effort to meet the distress among their children, but their effort is in no wise sufficient to meet the problem. Information collected by the Red Cross in Europe shows that there is In the Matter of Guardianship of LUHRING, Minority Notice is hereby suction of an order Court of the County of California, due on the 6th day o'clock above entitled est guardian of the parish Wilma Louise Luise sell, on or after the 1921, in the County of California, and conditions herein private sale subject by said Superior Clerk of said minor in a described real price the estate of said Situate lying at County of Orange more particularly lows, to wit: Beginning at a point and north 41 degrees feet from an iron Southeast corner Extension, as shown made by Wm. THE UNITED STATES IS. There is something which will be refreshing and stimulating to the nation in the news of the American Legion's demonstration in Madison Square Garden in answer to the recent "Rhine horror" meeting staged at the same place. The simple fact that 25,000 Americans can assemble spontaneously and voice their Americanism enthusiastically os something worthy of comment and thanksgiving in view of gatherings in the past year for other than American purposes. It leads us again to believe that we are still one nation, and that a nation of Americans, not a heterogeneous collection of pro-Germans, anti-Germans, pro-British, anti-British, pro-Irish, anti-Irish, etc. It convinces us that, while we undoubtedly have all the "pros" and "antis" named and many others active within our borders, we have also a saving-spirit of Americanism which will carry us as a nation safely through the dangers developed by those whose greatest interests lie in the old world. We have been inclined to grow passive in the face of the danger to America fostered by such European influences. The Madison Square Garden meeting indicates that, while we may have been passive, we have not been unconscious. "We object," said Gen. Pershing to the cheering thousands of his assembled veterans, "to the foreign born citizen who attempts to decide an American question for a foreign reason, whether he be of German lineage and proposes to determine an American climate of Central Europe, thousands of whom, born in wartime, have never known a shoe or decent article of clothing. With materials furnished by the American Red Cross, native women in these destitute countries today are at work in an effort to meet the distress among their children, but their effort is in no wise sufficient to meet the problem. Information collected by the Red Cross in Europe shows that there is instant need of 250,000 layettes and 2,000,000 garments for children up to the age of fourteen and that an infinitely larger number of garments can be used before these childrne would be even decently clothed. It is estimated that the 2,000,000 garments asked for will suffice barely to cover 500,000 children. While the appeal is directed to the rooms during the war all women interested in the clothing of these children are included. The project will not be launched on anything like the war time scale when each community had its chapter workroom where women assembled daily to turn out surgical dressings and countless other articles needed for the American Expeditionary Forces. Unlike the same service in war time, there will be little purchasing of materials but the women will be urged to utilize any cast-off articles of clothing which by the use of specifications of the Red Cross can be converted into useful garments for these destitute children. The chief phases of the effort being made today for the salvation of Europe's children are the feeding program of the European Relief Council, of which Herbert Hoover is chairman, and the medical welfare service of the American Red Cross. THE VICTORY MEDAL. To expedite the delivery of the rainbow-hued ribbons and the bronze medal that bears on its reverse face the name of our thirteen allies in The Great War for Civilization, known as the Victory Medal, the Marine Corps has opened a campaign of publicity through the agencies of its recruiting offices. The active resumption of recruiting by the sea soldiers is expected speedily to clear the decks of the recruiting offices of all unissued medals. The aid of the American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars and the posts of the Army and Navy Union has also been enlisted for this purpose. Application to the nearest Marine Corps recruiting office is all that is necessary, as the usual government red tape for the distribution of the Victory Medal has been eliminated by the Marine Corps. Each recruiting office has been issued a complete list of all officers and men who served in the war, and opposite each name is a record of all battle clasps and other devices that go with the individual medal.
