COUNTY MILK AND BUTTERFAT RECORD BROKEN
Three hundred and fifty distinct varieties of citrus fruit will be shown on a large table at the Eleventh National Orange Show, which opens in San Bernadino Friday night and continues to February 29.
Dr. J. T. Barrett, head of the Citrus Experiment Station at Riverside, yesterday arranged for the display which will carry the greatest number of varieties ever shown in any public exposition in the world.
The station still has a considerable number of varieties yet to come into bearing and when these get to producing fruit it is expected it will be possible to show well toward 45 sorts.
The plan of making this display at the Orange Show was inaugurated by Dr. J. T. Webber some years ago when there were only about 100 varieties available. The number has grown from year to year until 350 varieties are to be shown this year.
The show is also attracting the attention of classes in horticulture and several of them will visit the show for study of his displays.
Word came from M. A. Kaylor, science instructor in the Orange High School, that his class in horticulture will be there some day during the Show.
The Federal Board of Vocational Education has also notified the Show management that a class of 30 students studying horticulture under the auspices of that board at Chaffey Union High School will also visit the show.

COUNTY MILK AND BUTTERFAT RECORD BROKEN
The Farm Bureau cow tester just tested a big type grade Durham-Jersey cow, belonging to H. L. Wakehan of Greenville. His figures show that she produced twenty-four hundred and thirty-nine pounds of milk, testing four and seventen per cent of butterfat for thirty days. This same cow produced ninety-three and four-tenths pounds butterfat last month.
It is very interesting to note the vriety of food she has had in her ration and the scientific manner in which she has been handled. The concentrates were:
Ground barley 8 parts
Cocoanut meal 4 parts
Beet pulp 6 parts
Wheat bran 2 parts
Cotton seed meal 3 parts
This grain is fed at approximately one pound of grain to six pounds of milk. The roughage was made up of alfalfa hay and bean straw half and half. The succulent part of ration is a good quality of corn silage.
This record shows there is a great improvement being made among the dairymen in weeding out boarders and following more practical systems of feeding. Wakeham's cow is five pounds of butterfat and one pound of milk higher than any cow that has ever been tested by the Dairy Department of the Orange County Farm Bureau.
