The employees of the Southern California Edison Company having bought practically all of the block of 4,702 shares of stock set aside with the authority of the Railroad Commission for sale to company workmen and heads of departments, the commission, on request of the company, granted the utility authority to set aside 2,500 more shares to be sold to the employees. The stock is to be sold at not less than $90 a share and subject to the agreement that has been approved by the commission.
Ladies living in sections of the city bordering on Mexican quarters are filled with green-eyed jealousy when they see the dark-skinned senoras and senoritas parading the streets dressed in silks and other costly ralment. The Mexicans are prospering now. Wages are high, and the Mexican laborer earns money only to spend. Dago red is now unobtainable, consequently his money is spent for the adornment of his women folks.
Fullerton is figuring on the organization of a national guard company.
POLITICAL PARAGRAPHS
Senator Fall, of New Mexico, has it on reliable authority that the Carranza government in Mexico has been a hatching ground for I. W. W. agitators run out of the United States and that he is fomenting their work in the hope that they will assist in overthrowing the government in this country. It is an easy step across the Mexican border to the districts of the Pacific Coast where the I. W. W. leaders have been putting out literature and promoting discontent.
Because the Republicans in Congress were in accord with Secretary Lansing in demanding the immediate release of Jenkins, it is no sign that they are not disgusted that the situation has been allowed to go from bad to worse during a period of five or six years in which Americans have been murdered, their rights disrespected and their property taken from them without due process of law. The policy of "watchful waiting" has borne its natural fruit, according to the legislators—a constant defiance by Carranza until forced to a showdown, and then a slipping out from under the thumb of Uncle Sam, only to go on again with the same tortuous and evasive policy.
What did Carranza mean when he made the recent statement that Mexico had taken diplomatic steps to protect its future? Did he mean that he had made an offensive and defensive alliance with Japan? These are questions which are being asked in Congress. And this additional one: Has the State Department made an effort FORCE BILL FOR WOULD

Fullerton is figuring on the organization of a national guard company. Lieut. Col. McKnight and Major Coburn, who came in Monday to inspect Company F, at Santa Ana, looked the ground over and will probably make a report.
George Young and family Saturday moved to Alhambra where Mr. Young assumes his former position in a plumbing establishment. He has been working with his uncle, Fred Garrison for several months past.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zeppenfeld entertained the Four-Fours Club on Thursday evening last. Dinner was served early in the evening after which the usual game of whist was played. Mr. and Mrs. Melrose were winners of high scores.
Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Turner of Columbia, S. D., were dinner guests on Tuesday of Mr. and Mrs. Leo J. Sheridan. They have been in Anaheim several days this week visiting former South Dakota friends. Mr. Turner is a retired capitalist of the northwest, and with his wife is spending the winter at Long Beach.
It is believed a thousand tickets will be sold for the American Legion ball to be given at Odd Fellows hall New Year's Eve. Everybody is buying one. Get a ticket and take a look in whether you wish to dance or not.

What did Carranza mean when he made the recent statement that Mexico had taken diplomatic steps to protect its future Did he mean that he had made an offensive and defensive alliance with Japan? These are questions which are being asked in Congress. And this additional one: Has the State Department made an effort to discover the meaning of Carranza's statement, which was made in reference to the United States? Since Foreign Minister Zimmermann, of the "Imperial German Government" put it into the head of Carranza that it would be a splendid achievement if Mexico should rise in its might and take back the land wrested from it by the United States in 1846, he may have begun to believe it, but may have thought it wise to obtain some assistance in doing the job.
The territory acquired by the United States from Mexico, or at the time of conquering Mexico, now includes the States of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon and Washington. Had this territory remained under the aegis of old Mexico, it would undoubtedly have still remained as backward as the Spanish domain to which it originally belonged. Many Republicans in Congress believe that the only way to prevent further murders of Americans and general banditry in Mexico, is to go in with sufficient troops and clean it up, with the object of benevolently acquiring it, not for purposes of conquest, but in order to make it like the far-western states of the United States in civilization and opportunity.
In the last intervention in Mexico, Congress is not forgetting, the President sent marines to Vera Cruz on the question of the form of a salute by Huerta to the American flag. There was a grand parade. Twenty-eight American boys were slain. Then the marines were withdrawn from Mexico without the question of the form of a salute having been considered, let alone any actual salute by the Mexican government. Furthermore, at a conference at Niagara Falls, in which

Mayor J. J. Dwyer and Mrs. Dwyer will leave on Christmas day for a trip that will keep them away from home six weeks. They will go down the coast on a boat to the Panama Canal, through the canal to Cuba and the West Indies, and will return by way of New Orleans and the Southern Pacific.
Wm. C. Brumagin died in Anaheim December 10, following a three months illness. The funeral service wsa held at Anaheim, interment being in the Loma Vista cemetery at Fullerton. Mr. Brumagin was born in Canajoharie, N.Y., August 20, 1858. He came to Redlands from Ames, Iowa, in April, 1887, and had the distinction of being Redlands' first city marshal, serving two terms, or four years. He was also one of the leaders in temperance work there. He married Mamie Dana, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Dana, who also were pioneers of Redlands. The Bremagins left Redlands between 13 and 14 years ago, residing in Anaheim most of the time since. There are left the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Richard Abel of Norwalk, Calif.; one son, Chester; a brother in Pasadena, and a father, brother and sister in Iowa.—Redlands Facts.
Government by fear may flourish for a while, either in public or private affairs, but the time always comes when people decline to back up further.
The most pathetic object on the horizon is the politician yho, in a time of national emergency, thinks more about holding his job than of saving his country.
The reason the Russian bolsheviki, having sunk Russia to depths of suffering hitherto unexperienced by any people, send political missionaries to the United States is presumably because misery loves company.
A political party which tries to straddle on an important issue takes chances on having the straddle become a split.

FORCE BILL FOR SOUTH
WOULD CUT DOWN VOTE
Senator Moses Introduces Measure to Compel Section to Grant Suffrage or Give Up.
Senator George H. Moses, of New Hampshire, has introduced a resolution calling for the appointment of a committee of five members of the House and five members of the Senate to investigate and report before July 1st, next, upon the entire question of whether citizens are persistently denied the right of suffrage in the Southern States, and to recommend legislation for the decrease of the representation in Congress from those States should it be found that the right to vote has been denied.
The South, which was in control of Congress during the war with Germany, and restricted the price of the farmer's wheat, while it did not restrict the price of the planter's cotton, bases its representation, as other sections do, upon population, over twenty-one years of age. If a large part of that voting population is denied the suffrage because of color, or otherwise, the South is not entitled to its present representation.
In commenting upon his resolution, Senator Moses said that he had been much impressed by the sudden accession of political virtue demonstrated by the grand jury at Grand Rapids, where a partisan Department of Justice, in an ex-parte hearing, had produced a flock of indictments in connection with the last Senatorial election in Michigan. "It is refreshing," Senator Moses said, "to observe the

"It is refreshing," Senator Moses said, "to observe the tremendous enthusiasm of the Democratic party for purity in elections, and it would be a great pity to allow this divine afflatus to subside without deriving its full benefit for the entire country. The corruption of the Michigan electorate—if any occurred—is most distressing. But it is no more distressing than suppression of the electorate in the Southern States, which is so notorious as to require no evidence to be adduced. However, it is desirable to establish all the facts surrounding elections not only in Michigan, but elsewhere, in order that the purity of the personnel of Congress, in both branches, may be protected against the presence of men who hold their seats in contravention of statutory or constitutional privileges... The inquiry into Senator Newberry's title to his seat will not be permitted to go forward alone. There are many interesting facts far removed from Michigan which may be brought out helpfully in this connection, and I shall use my best efforts to see that this is done."
SOME PRESIDENTS WOULD HAVE HUNG CARRANZA
Democratic Senator Scores Wilson's Mexican Policy.
"There have been administrations in this country which under conditions stated by the senators would have long since had Carranza and his associates hung as murderers."
This is the utterance of Senator Shields of Tennessee, leading democrat.
We have added a steel die stamping outfit to our stationery department, the only one of its kind in Northern Orange county.
So that we can finish your correspondence cards or paper with any initial or combination of initials desired in plain or colored designs.

ic Senator, who is one of the members on the democratic side to score the administration's futile and hapless course regarding Mexico.
Senator Shields spoke for the purpose of saying that he did not believe Senator Ashurst's resolution, looking simply to the protection of Americans on this side of the border, was adequate.
"We have had ample cause for war with Mexico for five years," said Senator Shieldh, "and the resolution ought to be one declaring war against Mexico. The safety of our people in the border states and the honor of our country demand it."
Furthermore, Senator Shields expressed his opinion of the administration's Mexican course in no uncertain terms.
"Our relations with Mexico," he said, "constitute the most discreditable and humiliating chapter of our foreign relations history."
He said that there should be some action, not alone to protect Americans on this side of the border but to protect the citizens of the United States within the borders of Mexico who are being murdered and robbed constantly.
"From statements made upon this floor by other senators," said Senator Shields, "hundreds of our citizens have been murdered, women have been outraged, and their property, worth millions of dollars, taken and destroyed, in the republic of Mexico, where they were invited and encouraged to go."
With all the talk about the abolition of secret diplomacy the world now learns of a secret treaty whereby England, Italy and France have agreed to prevent the sale of munitions to China, at the demand of the Japanese government, which has determined to keep China helpless in the face of seizure of her territory. And this is the sort of business with which we are asked to go into partnership.
