Coyote Seeking Quiet Place: Recalling the early days when coyotes roamed through the wild mustard and cactus of Orange county where now are fine orange and walnut groves and when the prowlers visited hen houses in Santa Ana and were chased through the streets by dogs, a coyote was discovered on the five-acre ranch of C. R. Schneck at 314 East Santa Clara avenue, inside the city limits of Santa Ana, Wednesday. Mr. Schenck was working in his grove, and saw the animal among some blackberry vines on the rear end of the ranch. He returned to his house, secured his gun, and shot the animal, which was a coyote of the ordinary variety which roams the hills and unsettled portions of the country, but is very seldom seen in such a thickly-settled portion of the country as this, and especially within the city. Mr. Schenck skinned the animal, and will preserve the belt, which is now being dried at his home. He states the animal seemed to be making his home among the berry vines on his place, and had evidently been lurking about for some time. The trial of Earl Dutton, charged with non-support of a minor child, was set for August 29 at 2 o'clock. He gave $500 ball.
