AN INSULT TO THE REPUBLICANS
The selection of Col. D. C. Collier of San Diego, and Miguel Estudillo of Riverside by the Johnsonian "harmony" convention at San Francisco Saturday to represent the Eleventh Congress district at the republican national convention at Chicago, was an insult to the republicans of this district. In fact the entire slate of twenty-six names submitted to the republican state central committee is made up of henchmen of Gov. Johnson, and the attempt of the rump convention to railroad these men into the national convention is merely an effort of the part of the governor to capture the republican party of California and secure an endorsement of himself for the presidency.
Col. Collier deserted the republican party four years ago. He was a staunch supporter of William Kettner in the last congressional campaign and four years ago in the national election he fought the republican party and supported its enemies. Miguel Estudillo has no better claim to recognition by the republicans than Collier. He was elected state senator on the republican ticket eight years ago by little more than 100 votes in a district normally republican by 5000. He followed Gov. Johnson out of the party, and has been one of its bitterest opponents during the past four years. No greater insult could be of-
the next is the presidential primary on May 2, the bond election for the purpose of providing funds for repair on flood damage to roads and bridges on May 3, the state primary on August 29, the general election on November 6, and the referendum against the administration's non-partisan laws on a date which has not yet been fixed. Following are the dates on which the register closes for the four principal elections:

General election, November 6; registration closes October 6.
You must also be registered to sign initiative, referendum and nomination petitions.
CHILD NEAR DEATH FROM TAKING POISON
Finds Bottle in Yard Containing Nitric Acid and Drinks Contents
Little Arthur Schuster, the two and a half year old son of John Schuster of the Orange County Dye Works, drank the contents of a bottle which his five-year-old sister told him was sugar water last Wednesday, and a moment later was writhing on the ground in convulsions of pain. Mrs. Schuster found him and telephoned to her husband, who hurried the child together with the bottle, to the office of Dr. Truxaw. The doctor found that the bottle had contained a solution of nitrict acid. He administered the prop-

and four years ago in the national election he fought the republican party and supported its enemies. No greater insult could be offered the republicans of the eleventh district than the selection of Collier and Estudillo to represent them at the Chicago convention. They are both steeped in progressivism and neither would support a republican candidate in the republican convention.
In his aspirations to represent the 39th district in the senate of California eight years ago, Estudillo was repudiated by the republican voters of Orange county. The delegates from Orange county to the Riverside senatorial convention were pledged on their honor not to support Estudillo under any circumstances. Yet the Southern Pacific political machine, with headquarters in Los Angeles, was so potent at the Riverside convention that Estudillo's nomination was effected, by as shameful a political conspiracy as was ever enacted in the politics of the state of California. Estudillo was repudiated by the voters of this county and after herculean efforts on the part of the Southern Pacific political machine he crawled through with a beggarly 100 odd votes to spare, in a district normally republican by 5000 votes. The railroad politicians found Estudillo an exceedingly heavy load to carry. Thereupon, he turned from a railroad machinist to a progressive of purest ray serene. Now his name is suggested by the progressive rump convention as a representative of the republicans of this district in the national convention at Chicago. Oh, shame be it said! The republicans of this district will have none of him, nor Collier, who knifed the republican candidate for congress in this district in the last campaign, and who bolted the republican candidates for president and vice president four years ago. Republicans will have none of them, nor of any other middle-sized progressives in this county or elsewhere to represent them at the national convention.
The republican party will on Saturday next present to the voters of this district as well as to the voters of the orange County Dye Works, drank the contents of a bottle which his five-year-old sister told him was sugar water last Wednesday, and a moment later was writhing on the ground in convulsions of pain. Mrs. Schuster found him and telephoned to her husband, who hurried the child together with the bottle, to the office of Dr. Truxaw. The doctor found that the bottle had contained a solution of nitric acid. He administered the proper treatment to the suffering child, and there is a possibility that he will recover, although he was seriously burned by the fiery liquid.
Mr. and Mrs. Schuster had just moved into the house at 318 South Lemon street. There were numerous empty bottles of various kinds scattered about the yard in the rear of the house. They did not suppose that a bottle containing a deadly poison was among them, and the children were allowed to play in the yard. How this particular poison came there is a mystery as families have no use in their homes for nitric acid.
VALENCIA HOTEL CAFE
LEASED TO EASTERN MEN
Messrs. Osman & Lehman, Formerly Of New York Will Have Charge Of Dining Room
The Hotel Valencia cafe has been leased by Mr. Ziegler to Messrs. Osman & Lehman, two experienced hotel men from the east. They expect to open up for business on or about April 1st. These gentlemen have had experience in the hotel business in New York city and in coast cities, and Mr. Ziegler satisfied himself that they were competent and capable of making the Hotel Valencia the most popular hostelry between Los Angeles and San Diego. There were several applicants for the lease, but he was looking for the best.
The Mother Colony club, the board of trade and the merchant's association will move into their new quarters in the fourth story in a few days.
PROGRAM
For the meeting of the Anaheim Grammar school Parent Teacher association which is to be held on Tuesday evening, March 7th, at Fremont school, the following program has been arranged:
Selectors:
none of him, nor Collier, who knifed the republican candidate for congress in this district in the last campaign, and who bolted the republican candidates for president and vice president four years ago. Republicans will have none of them, nor of any other middle-sized progressives in this county or elsewhere to represent them at the national convention.
The republican party will on Saturday next present to the voters of this district, as well as to the voters of the state, the names of true blue republicans as delegates to the national convention. Republicans will support them unanimously, and they will resolutely oppose any man or set of men whose hands are dyed with the blood of the party which they attempted to destroy. No political assassins to represent us at the republican national convention!
ARE YOU REGISTERED?
It is passing strange that so many people persist in ignoring their plain duty as citizens of a community by neglecting to place their names on the great register, thereby making themselves eligible to vote at the coming elections. Deputies still report that registration is slow in the country precincts, and a considerable per cent is still unregistered in the cities where the books will be closed for the municipal election on the 10th of March—eight days from this date.
It costs you nothing to register. All that is required of you is to sign your name, make a cross, or put a finger mark on the blank, and the clerk will do the balance. There will be six elections during the coming year, and if you give in your name now you will be eligible to vote at all of them. The first is the city election on April 10,

ANAHEIM GAZETTE—THURSDAY, MARCH 2
Local Notes
Monday morning another continuance was ordered in the case of Otto Des Granges of Fullerton, charged with interfering with the fumigation of an orchard that the county horticultural commissioner had ordered fumigated. The case was continued to April 4.
Albert P. C. Gutzmann, born in Canada in 1885, has petitioned for final letters of naturalization. He is a baker by trade and lives at Anaheim. He came to this country in 1906. August Gutzmann and E. E. Heinze, both of Anaheim are his witnesses.
Another suit growing out of the des Granges family disputes has been filed. This time it is Otto des Granges suing his sister, Mrs. Adah P. Crall. He alleges that she has entered upon a walnut grove which he says he is entitled to hold, and has taken possession and has cut down one big walnut tree and threatens to cut down others. He asks for possession and $500 damages. Head & Marks and Scarborough & Forgy are attorneys for the plaintiff.
Richard F. Thomas of Brea was given probation Monday by Judge Thomas and it was stipulated that he go to church at least once a week and that he contribute at least $10 a month to the support of his mother, who lives at Brea. Thomas pleaded guilty to a charge of grand larceny, the taking of an automobile belonging to his brother-in-law, Brodie. Thomas told the judge that he did not intend to keep the machine, that he had taken it to go to Riverside county to hunt for a job and was going to let his younger brother drive it back to Brea.

WILLING TO EXCHANGE
An exchange of prisoners has been offered in the hostilities between a country school and a neighbor rancher. County School Superintendent Mitchell has the names of the school, and the rancher, but he fears that making the names public would add to enmity rather than allay it.
The neighbor did not like the school children to get over on his place. He told them to keep off. They said that when a tennis ball got knocked over on his place, they just had to go and get it. He saw that they did not, for he took a tennis ball captive, and said he proposed to make that a permanent war policy.
This same neighbor has sent the school superintendent a letter that he has received. The irate rancher says it is from the school mistress. The letter reads:
"Commander-in-Chief of Army.
"I suppose you know our tennis ball is over on your property. We have one of your chickens held here for ransom, and we propose to you that we exchange prisoners. If you will let us get the ball or you get it for us, we will bring over your chicken and give it to you.
