It seems to be the feeling that the packing house will not be needed at this time, but that it can be built whenever the demand comes.

W. E. Cook was in town on a business mission on Friday from his east side ranch. In speaking of the recent death of his wife, Mrs. Jane Boylan Cook, he stated that articles appearing in print in reference to disposition of some of the property of deceased are very misleading. The letter written by Mrs. Cook to her brother just before her death was simply of a personal nature and stated that in the case of her death certain articles and money would be bequeathed to him and other relatives. To this Mr. Cook fully agrees. He states that the ranch property and other holdings were held by himself and wife during her lifetime were always of the most friendly nature, and disposition of their holdings, in case of the death of either, had long been arranged for by mutual consent. Mr. Cook is at a loss to know why the matter has been brought into court by relatives, and maintains that no legal action can change his affairs so far as the disposition of the community property is concerned.

Mrs. Fannie Lacey, past president of the California Rebekah Assembly, was present from Santa Ana at the delightful affair, which netted a substantial sum for the orphan's home building fund. O. L. McVey of Fullerton was arrested at the dance in the bathhouse pavilion, at Newport Beach Sunday evening, June 20, on a misdemeanor charge and on Monday was tried before City Recorder Lee Collins and fined $50. In a dispute with Charles Fipps, which threatened to terminate in a tragedy, the defendant drew a dagger, apparently with the item to do him bodily injury, or intimidate him, but was arrested before the trouble went any farther. The dagger was a wicked looking weapon, about six inches long, from the hilt.

A Nelson, Buena Park shipper, marketed twenty-five carloads of beans last year, and it is said that he will ship at least forty cars this year. Large crowds of people were attracted to Newport Beach Saturday night to witness the highest tide of the year. Although the tide was registered at seven feet and three inches, there was no damage done by the water, as the surf was unusually calm, there being no wind. In several places along the Peninsula, the sea splashed over the bulkhead and ran down the streets, but no injury was done to private or municipal property. The big tides of the past few days have dug the beach out in many places in a manner that renders bathing extremely dangerous, and several accidents have resulted therefrom during the last week.
