Nashituri, proprietor of the Japanese rooming house on Los Angeles street, elevated a draped Japanese flag last week in mourning for the dowager empress of Japan whose death had just been announced. The flag had not been up long before a committee of one old soldier waited upon Mr. Nashituri and notified him that international law required that the American colors should be displayed whenever the flag of Nippon appeared on California soil. The Jap recognized the point of the argument immediately and the two emblems were entertained in honor of the dead empress.
