A month ago the Garden Grove and Tustin offices were raised from fourth- to third-class offices with a salary of 1,100 a year for each postmaster. G. W. Rayburn and J. D Price both wanted the Garden Grove appointment. They talked it over, and thought the best way to settle the matter was for a third man to take it. So they endorsed Charles Emerson, a hardware merchant. At Tustin the only applicant is J. W. Finney, a barber. To Protect Fruit J. A. McFadden, D. E. Huff and Willard Smith, as a committee of the Orange County Fruit Exchange, representing several citrus fruit associations, have asked the Board of Supervisors to have four deputy horticultural commissioners appointed to join with them in a campaign against citrus fruit pests. The committee declares that it will make concerted persistent effort to make headway, and that County Horticultural Commissioner R. K. Bishop cannot attend to all the details of the campaign that the fruit growers want to carry on. The matter will come up before the supervisors on January 13. The orange and lemon growers state that the reputation of Orange county fruit among Eastern dealers is higher now than ever before, and that to maintain a position at the top the section must ship fruit guaranteed free from insect pests. Wants Damages Everet Thompson of Orange brought a damage suit against Jesse B. Shaver, formrly of Orange, now of Yuma, where he went for his health On September 21 Shaver's automobile driven by Calvert Duke, sent here from Yuma for the machine, ran over Thompson, who was riding a bicycle on East Chapman street at McPherson. Thompson's injury was serious, the pelvic bone being broken. Duke did not stop, but started out immediately for Yuma He got as far as Oceanside when he was arrested and brought back On a hearing in the superior court he was turned loose on the ground that the law making it a felony for an automobilist to run over a person and go on without stopping is SPECIALISTS From the CATAPHORIC INSTITUTE OF LOS ANGELES Will pay their first visit to Anaheim, and will be at the Commercial Hotel Monday and Tuesday Jan. 26 and 27 TWO DAYS ONLY This being an Advertising Trip to Introduce This New System, They Will Give Consultation, Examination, Advice and All Treatment Necessary to Complete a Cure—FREE. This time they are in Oklahoma, and the letter is a gem. A few weeks ago the supervisors voted $100 to Otto Summers of the San Joaquin ranch for the benefit of triplet boys. Summers was reported to the board as in hard circumstances, and the unexpected increase to his family was an emergency that called for help. The report went out that the board had made an offer of $100 to triplets born in Orange county. The members of the board say there was some such talk for a joke, but nothing went down on the minutes. However, the word went out in the newspapers. The Beaver triplets, aged 3, of West Anaheim, applied for the reward. Thursday the board received a letter from Naples, Okla., which follows, punctuated and spelled as it was received: Naples Okla Jan the 4 1914 "Dear sir i seen your add in the Cappers weekley of 100 hundred Dollars to give to triplets i wisj lived in that county i am one off 3 brothers i was born in weare Okla 1 am 14 years old I only weighed 2 pounds and my 2 little brothers weighed 2 and a half a piece i weigh 60 now my parence a farmers and i am trying aful hard to get an equation am in the 4 grade if you have eney thing to give us we will be auful glad as we are very small and never can do very hard work we would be auful glad to get enough to by books D.
